So, I was thinking about getting a drawing tablet for my computer to cancel the whole scanning paper that I've spent 4 hours inking process. But, sadly, I have no idea what kinds are good and what kinds are total crap. Any ideas? Not way too expensive though.

I'm using a Bamboo pen and touch. Not too expensive, kinda crappy, but it works well enough.

I was thinking about that one actually. What makes it kinda crappy?

As long as it doesn't use batteries it's "good enough"

Also bigger doesn't necessarily mean better. If you draw with you wrist as opposed to your arm, a smaller one is better for you

Nothing really. Its just your average, bare bones tablet. Fully functional, but not a whole lot of bells and whistles. It gets the job done just fine for a reasonable price.

It all depends on how serious about it you are. Bamboo if great for basic use, for majority of amateur artists it will be just enough.

Intuos is step above it, both price and functionality, it's semi-pro up to pro, if you can afford it and actually will use it regularly and maybe even make some money off your work that's what you should aim for.

Cintiq is if you are full blown professional, especially the 21UX. Those are the series with display screen that allow you to actully draw without looking at your PC screen.

I use a Bamboo Fun. It's pen and mouse, and I've had it... for about 2 years now. For $150 or so, it also came with Adobe Photoshop Elements and Corel Painter. I love it, and the only reason I want to replace mine eventually is because I got careless and left it out, and I don't know if it got trapped under the couch or something, but there is a scratch on it now. There isn't much of an effect on my drawings, but sometimes it gets a little irritating.

Considering Photoshop Elements alone is almost $100, it's a great deal. :)

I bought a Trust Flex Tablet about four days ago for £20, and it's functional and draws with relative ease once you've got the settings sorted for your own personal style.

What sort of budget and level of professionalism are you? If you're a really good artist I'd go for something better because the Trust is (I think) about as basic and beginner as you can get. If you're any good get something more.

I have a Wacom bamboo, its a pretty good for beginers and when combined with photoshop you can get some pretty good pieces of art out of it.

Get yourself on Ebay fool!

Now, Wacom or nothing, I've tried tablets from from various manufacturers and without exception they've all been glitchy and unreliable, except for the Wacom ones. There are some other good brands but they're hard to get outside of the far east.

With Wacom's range you want to look at the Bamboo and Graphire range. Avoid the Pen'n'touch Bamboo and look at the standard models, they work better. If you don't want to spend too much I'd geta second hand one of Ebay, they appear at a fairly steady rate. Although if yuo're a student a lot of stores do very good discount packages on Wacom stuff.
