Ok, so at the moment I'm in the middle of growing my hair, it's taking a while but it's getting there, I've toyed with the idea of getting dreadlocks when it's long enough, and after asking some friends for advice I've gotten replys ranging from 'Yeah it'll look good' to 'don't be ridiculous, dreads look stupid on white people' (that was a genuine reply from one of my friends) so I pose this question to the escapists: What do you think of Dreadlocks, do they look good, or do you hate them?

Also, if someone could tell me how to stick pictures in posts, I'll upload one of myself so you can judge whether Dreads would suit me or not

I'd say try it out. If you don't like them you could always get your hair cut again.

Big nay. It's disgusting. But you're not trying to attract me, so take that for what it's worth.

Nay, nothing reminds me more of the fashion disaster that was the 90's...

Plus you'll just end up looking like a stoner...

That's just my opinion though...

I have no idea how to stick pictures in posts. I fail at embedding files.

I actually don't think that dreads are really that bad a choice. Way better than a guy just having long hair. But if you're going to do it, still keep them relatively short and still only if they'll suit you. Dreads can work on a white guy, you just have to find a good style for them.

the problem with that is I'm rather fond of having my hair long, and it takes forever to grow, I've been growing it for about 5 months and my fringe isn't even past my eyes

The thing about Dreadlocks is, you need to not wash your hair for months to help them develop naturally, so the process is stinky.

Besides that, as long as you keep them clean and smell-free, I don't mind them. It's just a hair-style for fucks sake. (not that I would ever get them...)

I say go for it. You never know, maybe it will make you look like the sexiest man on Earth, and even if it makes you look like a total dumbass at least you'll have a funny story to tell people.

It really depends on your look, not skin color. Some people just don't look right with dreads, while others can really rock 'em. That's the only factor in my personal opinion.

not neccesarily true, you can use wax and styling to do them, plus they actually dread better when clean, its also important to clean them regularly or they end up falling apart

Nay. Just nay. Unless your Jamaican, it's nearly impossible to pull off.

Well i have dreads.

You don´t have to dread all of you hair at one go.

And despite what other might say, if you keep it clean and groomed it wont make you look like a stoner or a fasion disaster.

My long somewhat dreadded hair attracts a few girls. There is nothing wrong with standing out.

Ehh... It's a hit or miss type of thing.

Try them out, but if you look stupid then just shave your head or undread them.

What the fuck is up with your avatar?

Jeezus, it looks like I'll get nightmares of that thing.

I'm sorry to say this, but we just don't look good in certain hairstyles. I went to Africa with my church this summer, and one of the girls on our team decided to get those super tight braid things (corn rows? I don't know hair styles) and, so help me, it was the creepiest thing I've ever seen. (She was also a ginger.)

completely off topic but I agree with the creepy avatar thing, I thought it was Mr Popo from Dragonball at first, but it's much worse...

It's Macaulay Culkin if he ran away and joined the Blue Man Group.

I was contemplating dreads myself, but then I'm not employed and I'm certainly not going to make my life any more difficult.

Dreads = Good, unless you're in a situation in which you need people to like you.

The whole "white guys can't have dreads" is stupid. Ignore.
