I'm a cocktail bartender.

I don't do it because I need the money, I'm a student and only work about 20 hours a week. I've worked jobs where I got paid much more, but I genuinely enjoy booze, the stories that surround booze, the history of booze and the taste of booze. I probably drink every day of the week except 1 or 2 (and never touch booze when I'm in exam block), usually wine if I'm having a sit down dinner, with a whiskey after dinner or beer and shots when I'm working. There's nothing like a boilermaker after an 18 hour working day.

I can see how people would not like what alcohol does to them, or not like the taste, and I respect those people much more than those who don't like the taste and drink just to get wasted. Most bartenders that I know are united in this view, and hold the same amount of disdain that I have for the wastes of space that accost us when we come out of work in the wee hours of the morning.

There are no categories of liquor that I don't enjoy, with the exception of vodka which I consider to be pointless.

I drink pretty heavily, mainly vodka and beer and that's solely a taste thing, when I drink to get drunk I usually have whatever people hand me and that results in me having a splitter the next day and needing to yak. But I drink for the taste and the feeling (if you limit yourself)

The problem is people dont drink to drink anymore, they think the only reason behind drinking is to get drunk. Personally I dont drink and have no plan to start drinking, but that is what I have seen. Also, when people are younger, they drink to get drunk with friends. When they are older, they only drink to get drunk because that is what they have always done.

I drink quite a lot, but only socially. Currently I'm helping in running a student society/fraternity so it's pretty much an obligation for me. I'm always careful not to drink too much. I know a few alcoholics amongst the more ancient/ex-members of the society and that scared me enough to pay a lot of attention to what and how much I drink every week.

Anyway, alcohol will never taste good to me, the same way coffee doesn't taste good to me. i don't like the taste, but that's not why i drink it. It gives me something that normal drinks can't, and it's an acquired taste I suppose.

getting drunk on your own isn't fun. getting drunk with friends is damn fun. As long as you don't bother other people.

So I don't drink. I think the shit tastes terrible and all of my family are or have been alcoholics at some time excluding my sister and I so I don't like it at all. But I don't really mind if you do drink. But where I get annoyed is when some drunken fucktard is like "Man you are up-tight*hic*learn to have fun. Then promptly passes out in a bunch of rocks 10 minutes later and wakes up the next morning with a massive hangover and says it is great and you are stuck up(true story btw). So what are your thoughts Escapist.

Also I left the guy laying in the rocks and went home I'm not totally sure how he got home.
As for your reaction to that guy, you did the right thing to ignore him. It's your choice not to do it. You can have fun without alcohol at parties and social gatherings, anyway.

I don't drink, and probably never will, because I don't like how it tastes and makes me feel. But my girlfriend does(or did, but will in the future) and I don't mind it. I'm confident enough in social situations that the "I don't give a shit" attitude that comes with drunkness is already with me.

Hanging with drunk people is good, because they've already broken the ice and most things you say won't seem awkward to them. Just relax and chill out.

I drink, but only very rarely. I would consider myself more of a social drinker, as I tend to only really consume alcohol in the presence of family and friends. The rare times I do drink on my own, it tends to be Glenlivet. That stuff is lovely. The rest of my family are more like social drinkers as well, and it is great that, when I go see my parents my dad and I will go on a bit of a bar crawl and kill a couple of hours. It's a lot of fun, as long as it doesn't get out of hand. I see no point in drinking yourself to the point that you don't know who you are and where you are going. That kind of impairment frightens me somewhat.

On weekends my parents make this big pot, and it's basically green apples, vodka, salt, and water. I mixes together really nicely and you can't really taste the alcohol at all because there's hardly any in it. I could drink it all day and not feel anything by the end of the day.

Anyway, that's basically the only alcohol I drink. I've been drunk once and honestly didn't really enjoy it.
