known to go through several jugs of sake when my spouse, and I's friend comes over once a week, and we tend to play through various RB/GH games and such pretty heavily plowed....cant say performance gets worse so much as stamina sucks.

I usually try not to. I drank a bottle of wine one time while playing WoW and I was pretty useless. Other than that, I feel like I forget things or rush too fast through the game.

I'm a regular cod4 player and it's always a good night in the weekends when I'm drinking. For the most part I'm top 3 of the tables, hax excluded. When you've played fps rts rpg as much as I have it makes little difference initially. But you can enjoy the social part of the game more. Ie, chat with other players while you're dead, or give key info to your living teammates especially in cod4. Some of the funniest chats I've had is with other players that are drinking. We compare notes, as to who's drinking what. And I can tell they are drinking cause their scores are usually less than what they normally are, so in that sense, yes there is a penalty.

At the end of the day I guess it comes down to why you play in the first place. For a lot of us, it's just to relax, and scores don't validate our lives. Some of the best times I've had is finding the hard to reach places in a map, or getting all the aircraft in battlefield 2 at one airport for example. Nothing like 3 heli's stacked ontop of each other and I'm sure I still have the screen shot somewhere.

Bottom line, it's online play and it's not serious(like playing for cash), so you just get to that point where you have fun with the engine. To me that's what it's all about. Recreation time.

ye sure I'l have a bottle or a can or too the odd time. I dont always drink when I'm playing even if its in the house tho. Depends on the mood ya know?

Wouldn't really see much wrong with it, but a friend of mine.. well his brother regularly gets trashed alone 8-12 cans and does it quite often too. Thats how you know you have a problem.

Funny you should mention RPGs and weed...... When I used to smoke every day, the only game I could play and really enjoy while stoned was Morrowind. Something about fantasy RPGs and weed just enhances the experience. Nowadays, if I even think about Morrowind, I think of getting stoned.
I'm pretty sure it has something to do with inventory and collection... when I'm sober I don't much care for the customization aspect of RPGs, I just toss on the equipment that has the highest numbers or whatever and I'm good to go. Stoned, I spend a lot more time exploring places systematically and tweaking up my characters with carefully selected equips that compliment each other. It doesn't hurt that the game plays at your own pace too, as opposed to most action-oriented games that seem like an unstoppable whirlwind ... no time to pause and think for a second.

Final Fantasy Tactics + half-quarter + poverty and no social plans for a day, incidentally, was the most video game fun I've ever had.
