I am a big fan of Captain Morgan spiced rum.
Urgh, I don't know if I'd suggest that to a new drinker. It's too flavorful for some people, and can lead to unpleasantness. In fact I recall an even where I was 16 and I drank way too much mulled wine and ate too much black bean soup at the hospitality suite of a local convention. Well, let's just say that the combination of hot, spiced wine and thick black bean soup didn't bode well for the hotel room garbage can later that night.

For my suggestion, good vodka. Grey Goose is the best, but there are lesser products that are still very drinkable. Just don't buy really cheap vodka, you'll know from the price and the taste ie. hairspray.

As for beer, if you're american, learn to drink piss and like it. If you're Canadian, then it's literally all good to drink. Except for OV, which I refer to as Old Vagina.
You are probably right. Although I started out on the Captain and felt no ill effects (other than the wobbles) after half a bottle.

So you heard good things about Pabst Blue Ribbon? You need some new friends, man. Those guys have no taste. I usually go with a Samuel Adams when I'm in a beer mood. It's a little on the hoppy/bitter side, but has a great flavor and is great with American food or something spicy. I think their Summer Ale is going to come out pretty soon, so that's definitely worth looking into for a lite beer that's great on a hot day. It has a slight citrus flavor with very subtle spice; it's great after a long day at work. As for liquor, I like Paul Masson brandy for every day sippin' pleasure especially when combined with a good cigar. Ridgemont Reserve is a great premium bourbon at a fantastic price, I got a handle for 25 bucks. It's sweeter than most whiskeys I've tried, and has subtle oak flavor. Another great one for sippin' straight with a corncobb pipe. Puts that Jim Beam and Jack Daniel's swill right in its place. And don't give me that "it's for mixing" crap. Real men drink whiskey straight, end of story. If you want to drink regularly, I recommend staying away from the cheap shit. Good liquor is like a good meal: it may cost a little more, but it's a helluva lot more satisfying.

A bit off topic, but has anybody here tried Absinthe? Somehow this magical green elixir calls out to me, but I haven't found it in my local liquor stores. Just wanna know what it tastes like, and so forth..

PBR is only a good cheap beer.

Honestly everyone has a different taste for alcohol, some people swear by one drink while others think it is the worst drink they have ever had. Just buy some different alcohol every time till you figure out what you like and what you don't like. Try to find a place where they let you make your own 6 pack.

Wow, no love for American beer.
All the beers I listed were American.
It's just the most popular ones are cheap and don't have good flavor.

Black liquorish, it tastes just like black liquorish. It also doesn't make you hallucinate.

Constantly try new alcohol and keep a track so you know what you like. I'm a big fan of gin and beer, not in the same glass obviously. One very valuable piece of advice that I have is to NEVER do Irish Car Bombs with rum instead of beer. It will NOT end well for you.

Ah, quite informative. Much obliged. Knew it's not a hallucinogen, yay for a chemistry degree!

Pretty sure the real stuff is illegal in most places. The stuff you can buy just doesn't have that drug in it.

Depends what you like in beer. Ale or stout? Do you like it hoppy?

Becks, Holsten, Carlsberg, and Innis and Gunn are my favourite beers. They're imports so you'll pay a little more, but they are delicious.

That's illegal in the U.S.

That's the thing, I haven't tried a lot of beers so I don't know what I like in beer.

Find a place where you can make your own 6 pack and just get different ones every time.

EDIT: also realize your taste can and probably will change over time.

Absinthe is legal in the US and in Europe, as of a few years ago. The drug you're referring to is thujone, which is indeed present, but in too low a concentration to have any effect. Shame, cuz that stuff is apparently similar to THC...

Go to the liquor store, pick up a bottle of Captain Morgan's, then go to the grocery store and pick up a bottle of cream soda. The ratio of Captain Morgan's to cream soda in your drink should be between 1:6-1:8. I usually just do it by sight, so its hard for me to judge what exact measurements are. Anyways, just mix it to taste. After you mix it, drink it down and start writing me a formal thank you letter for having suggested to you one of the best decisions you'll ever make.

Other suggestions include mixing Southern Comfort with 7 Up or getting a bottle of Seagram's 7 Honey Whiskey, taking shots and chasing them with Rootbeer.

Again, you can send me a thank you letter later.

Coolers! Oh shit wait I'm a guy. Go with the smirnoff, all vodka tastes bad. I really don't really see the point of having a favourite. Go for the cheap stuff and mix with cherry pepsi. You are set

Good point. So you don't like Bud Light...is it too weak? Bad taste? I don't like it much either. :p

Hmm guess it is. Just did a quick search about it, but it is SO low that they consider it thujone free. Either way i hate black liquorish :(.
