I got a DS last week. And looking on the net for good games has been only a little helpful.
So I shall ask the friendly Escapist forum! :D
What are good DS games?
I prefer singleplayer focus. I like RPGs.
So far I have Pokémon Platinum, Final Fantasy IV, and Dragon Quest IX Sentinels of Starry Sky, bought, ordered, and on list. In that order.
And I'm considering getting White after it comes out.
So yeah, anyone have particular favourites or good suggestions for games, or must haves?
Thanks in advance!

EDIT: Oh, also remembered, mine is a Lite, so it can play GBA games. Feel free to recommend good GBA games too!

Off the top of my head:

The World Ends With You

If you enjoyed Dragon Quest IX, there are others in the series for DS. In fact, one is being released next month, I believe (DQ VI).

There are Scribblenauts and Professor Layton if you like logic-puzzle games.

New Super Mario Bros. is a great platformer, and Elite Beat Agents is a very funny rhythm game.

My highest recommendation would be the Phoenix Wright games. There are three in the series, plus two spin-off titles. They've got great (often funny) stories, and memorable characters.

In a similar vein, there's Hotel Dusk, and 9 Persons, 9 Hours, 9 Doors (just started it, liking it so far). They're more an interactive story than a game, but they're very enjoyable.

The DS has other titles that are nice to have around. If you like reading, there's 100 Classic Books, there are also titles for cooking and exercise, and if you have a DSi, there are a lot of handy apps in the store (notebooks, calculators, flashlights).

The DS is my favorite system, and I hope you enjoy yours, pal.

Edit: Just saw that you have a Lite, so disregard what I said about the DSi.

Regarding GBA games:
Metroid Zero Mission
Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga
The Mario Advance titles (just polished ports of SMB 2,3, World, and Yoshi's Island)
Advance Wars
WarioWare/Warioware Twisted

Pretty much this.

And Chrono Trigger.

Ohhh lets see.

Golden Sun 2 is a great JRPG that's a throwback to classic SNES with awesome music, a fun Turn biased fighting style, and freaking awesome summons.

The Mario RPGs are all fun.

Super Robot Taisen OG Saga:Endless Frontier is a really unique JRPg with a cool and interactive fighting style, a great cast of characters, and surprisingly good story.

Personally, I recommend Phantasy Star Zero. It controls similar to PS I and II, but you get some more unique weapons and enemies.

Golden Sun: Dark Dawn is good. It has a lot of text, and rather lengthly "cutscenes", but it's memorable and fun and very well-designed.

Scribblenauts is okay, if a tad frustrating.

Actually, you can get a one handed controller from this guy, who mods the things.
It might be worth it if you really need to be able to game.

I've seen his work, including a PS3 laptop, handheld versions of old game systems, etc.
He knows what he's doing.

I hear the new one, Super Scribblenauts, is basically just that but with better controls, so I'd go for that one.

As for GBA games, since someone else hasn't said it already(surprisingly), definitely go pick up a copy of Final Fantasy 6 if you're willing to step up and pay the crazy amounts it always goes for. One of only a few games in the series to have both a solid script and near-flawless gameplay when normally it's one or the other(or neither). Also, the Kirby games on GBA and DS are pretty fun and clever, but not Power Paintbrush(probably one of the worst games Nintendo ever published).

The Professor Layton games. Even if you don't like puzzles, I found the cutscenes to be fantastic and good, the narration is good.

999: 9 Hours 9 Persons 9 Doors! The game was so interesting with an awesome story! I've played it the past 5 days and got 3 out of the six possible endings. Once you start getting the other ending, it gets really complicated and mixed. (In a good way) I suggest you buy it if you're a fan of great and complex stories. Side note: It is a visual novel styled game, so there is not much game play and a lot of text, but the decisions you take in the game affect the outcome of the ending quite precisely.

Elite Beat Agents.

It's a must own for any DS user.

It's not an rpg, it's a music game. But it's a music game made of awesome. So much awesome that it must be owned by everyone. It's also very cheap and everywhere.

Then, what everyone else has recommended. The entire GoldenSun series is good, and it's worth looking for them on the GBA - provided you have a DSLite. I recently got a copy of Sands of Destruction, which is very interesting.

After that, you can't step into a game store without tripping over six or more good rpgs. That's excluding the shelf that extends for an eternity.

Do you like Yugioh?

If so, definitely get The Eternal Duelist Soul. First ever accurate simulator of the Yugioh TCG. It is the simplest due to the fact that it only had 800 cards, but damn is it fun and challenging.

Also Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow. GET IT. Just trust me. You'll love it.

Looking at my huge collection: Dragon quest 4-6 (If you like the first ones, pretty much the same), GTA chinatown, bleach: the blade of fate (varied and unbalanced fighter. Unbalanced=FUN!), the sonic rush games (basically sonic 1-3 with new gen), the mario RPGs. That's at the front shelf, I can't be bothered checking the rest.
Also, check out mario party advance. Not the DS version, it sucks. But the advance was really fun.

I'm starting Izuna: Legend of the Unemployed Ninja, and it's a fun and very abusive dungeon crawler RPG. The game is designed so that you are meant to keep dying and losing all your equipment, but then your next go at the dungeon you will be more leveled up. Fortunately, they give you so much stuff in the dungeons that it really doesn't matter when you lose your stuff.

The one DS game that I would get if I had to get all my DS games over again would be Advanced Wars: Days of Ruin. There are 2 AW games on the DS, and I really liked how that one was balanced. The other, Dual Strike is also great, but it feels a little over the top sometimes.

Other noteworthy games that I like: Metroid Hunters, Kirby's Canvas Curse, Meteos, The Castlevaina series, Geometry Wars, (if you can get past the girly aspect) Super Princess Peach, Mario Kart, Phoenix Wright series.

Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective. Just Finished it last night, it such a fun game. It's like 999 in that it's Puzzles with an very interesting mystery story wrapped all around it. Great Animation and Characters. Highly recommend!

Ohh snap! I forgot about Professor Layton!

On the cover, it looks like another kids shovelware game, but it is so totally not. Great puzzles if you can keep yourself from cheating or guessing randomly.
