I recently bought Justice for All for my sister (who's new to hand-held gaming... Which is weird considering she's 33 and been around games all her life.) Finding the others is a *****. The stores, when they do have a PW game, list it as only 'Phoenix Wright' on the website so it's a gamble on which one you get when you show up. That's a pain.

And is GS3 like the first two and true to it's form?
Everything you know from the older games is in this game.
Golden sun has always been a pretty mediocre, overly wordy series and my guess why it is so successful is because it was the only bloody jrpg released on the gba and everyone was hungering for something like final fantasy or some snes classic port like chrono trigger (hint hint) which just never came.
It also showed the graphics capabilities off with the summons.

If you know and liked the first 2 golden sun games then you'll probably get it anyway.
To be fair, people liked the first two Golden Sun games because they had a novel approach to handling the scenery in a puzzle/power-format, which people were worried faded out of jrpg history during the rise of the cut-scene (many jrpgs these days just have 'path with monsters' instead of any puzzle/explore approach). It also had a two-chapter plot, which made people clamor for game 2.

Edit you may miss - GS also doesn't hold your hand during game play and plot, which is also practically never done anymore.

So yeah... I have a DS Lite and there's a sale at the local game shoppe.

In the last few months I've played Black Sigil, Rune Factory 2, Pokemon Silver, and Glade of Heracles. I also own the first two Golden Sun games for the GBA.

Yesterday I beat Sands of Destruction. It had active characters and a fun plot, but the game play was disappointingly unbalanced (I just hit Y for most battles once to win it. Nearly fell asleep during later battles.) This makes me sad as the game has so much promise. I hope they make a sequel with a better handle on game play. That would be wonderful.

Today I bought The World Ends With You from the heavy prompting of a friend who told me it was a must-have.

I'm interested in these titles, but can't tell if they're worth the purchase or not:

Monster Rancher DS
Rune Factory 3
999 (is that even a jrpg?)
Golden Sun 3
Monster Tale
Super Robot Taisen OG Saga: Endless Frontier

And if there are any other titles I absolutely have to have, please inform me. I'm okay with generally all types of jrpgs in all settings.

If you're looking at this thread because you like the word DS or JRPG, but can't help, then let's talk about my problem with jrpg game reviews. I have a problem with looking at reviews online these days and that's because this game-reviewing generation of people are entirely far too negative. They don't like one thing about a game, so lay heavily on everything, even if there's absolutely nothing wrong with it outside of that one original complaint. So if a jrpg is perfectly normal with one or two flaws, they'll be sure to go on about how it's out-dated with 'old' music or something. Or if it has turn-based combat, it's suddenly not worthy of purchase. That's not fair, I tell you. Therefore I can't trust going through actual review websites like GameSpot or IGN or something because either the reviewer is bias or is all too negative and displeased with everything as a whole. This hasn't been a problem with all generations, just the most recent one. It's like everyone goes into a jrpg expecting to be unhappy. What's up with that?

Edit - this guy got to make the recent DS thread ahead of me. http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/9.276238-DS-Game-Recommendations I'm aware of it. I just want jrpg recommendations, thanks. Or general jrpg review talk if you're bored.
Super Robot Taisen is a pretty good RPG, pretty flashy, and it has some neat mechanics, though I admit the fighting does become alittle annoying after a point.

999 (9 Hours, 9 Persons, 9 Doors) is not an RPG, it's an adventure game/visual novel type thing based around puzzles. It's a sort of variation on "Saw" with an even more far out there plot/explanation (which I won't spoil), the basic premise is that you've been placed on a flooding ship with eight strangers. The ship has been wired with lethal traps and puzzles.

It's *fairly* difficult because while there are a lot of clues and solutions hidden through the game, there are puzzles you have to figure out on your own entirely. Without a walkthrough you have a better than average chance of getting stuck at least once or twice irregardless of what ending you wind up heading for.

This isn't from personal experience, but I heard that SMT: Strange Journey and The Dark Spire were both good games.

Speaking from personal experience, I would suggest the main Dragon Quest games(IV, V, VI, IX). They're a bit archaic in design but they're all incredibly charming games.
