DS ports you would like to see.

The DS is a pretty spectacular handheld (IMHO) that is being under utilized often enough. There are hundreds of games that would make wonderful ports onto the DS. For example (and we are finally starting to see this) nearly any casual Pop Cap type of game could easily be ported to the DS. Also, many older games could take advantage of gamers love of the retro and port over several great titles with little work.
Some I would like to see would be:
Bookworm Adventures (c'mon, PopCap! Even the PC version is sorta already split screen!)
An official port of Starcraft and Warcraft II. (For F! sake, Blizzard! I know you don't need the money, but help us out here!)
and, with the introduction and popularity of games like Etrian Odyssey and Orks and Elves, a port of the Bards Tale (I, II, III) games would be great.
Also (in that vein) the original Eye of the Beholder series would be pretty neat.
Sure the graphics are a bit dated, but how much would it really cost them to hire an artist to update it?
Also, any or all of the 'Gold Box' games especially P.O.R. ok.. so there is a definite RPG/DnD theme here, but that's what I like.

So, what about the rest of you?

The first 4 Phantasy Star games, with updated graphics and soundtrack.

One of the Elite games, again with shiny new graphics.

Civilization II, if they could get it to fit.

I'd like to see some sort of Monkey Island. The DS was practically made for Point and Click games.

If anything, though, I'd love to see Okami on the DS. Okami for the Wii would be fun, but Okami in-my-pocket-for-a-quick-10-minutes-of-gaming would be like having an orgasm readily available at all times.

Agreed. But not sure it could work, sadly.

I'd love to have a portable Maniac Mansion or Day of the Tentacle, but one game I've been dying to hear is coming to DS is Pac-Man: Championship Edition from XBLA. That was one of my favorite games from last year, and it would work perfectly on DS. Is it locked into 360-exclusivity? It kinda seems so, but its Pac-Man, so I'm not sure. I need this game on my DS!

I would love to see some old school point and clik on the DS, King's Quest would be nice too.

I agree whole heartedly with all of the above posts, and for those of you who love the point and click adventure games of yester-year, if you have a homebrew capable cart (M3 DS Real for me)then you can get those to play via scummVM that was ported to the DS. I'm def not an advocate of piracy, but if you own the games, you should check that out. The list it'll play is really impressive. Official ports of any of them (my prefs would be Monkey Island and Maniac Mansion.) would be freakin sweet though. I have never understood why game companies don't look online to see what games are being created or played on these abandonware and emulation sites, and instead of just threatening law suits, actually make ports or updated versions themselves. StarCraft for example. A fella tries to port the game over for the DS out of love of the game, not for profit and gets threats from Blizzard. I always back up companies protecting their IPs, but instead of threats, how about a job offer to this guy? He is obviously talented and was willing to do it for free! To add to the original question, what are your standpoints on unofficial player created ports?

I'm going to have to concur with any old-school adventure games, between Sierra and LucasArts. Not only is the interface perfect, but dammit, I just want to be able to play some of those games again.

Castles would be great, too.

And I have ALWAYS said that I really wish Okami could have been a DS game. Even if not the actual Okami, but a DS version sequel. That would rule.

I would buy the DS if they started releasing classic RTS's for it. C&C, Red Alert, Warcraft 1 and 2, Total Annihilation, Civilization II, Starcraft, Age of Empires I and II and I don't know how many others. Who knows, maybe it's infeasible because you need a bigger screen but I'd like to see someone try if for no other reason than I think having that touch screen as your mini map would be amazing.

I forgot to mention a couple. Master of Magic with multiplayer support, and Fallout 1 and 2, or a true-to-the-original-gameplay new FO. Oh, but for Fallout on the DS... *drool, slobber* the split screen would work wonderfully well with a LT/RT switch to flip the touchscreens back n forth so it could be played with the stylus only.
Also, a port I would love to see from a board game: Hero Quest. I wasn't really a fan of the videogame adaptations of that aside from a fan made one. I would love to see a decently well made DS version of that with WiFi support.
One last one (for this post) that I may be alone on.. RPG Maker DS! Or, better yet, a bit of software that will let me export my RPG maker creations to NDS format.

How about Geometry Wars DS?
Geometry Wars: Galaxies is coming to the DS, I believe.
(one google-ing?.. googlette?.. google? later)
Yup. Looks that way. It's not the original though...sadly I never played that despite the hype. Yeah, I know... I suck. Throw the rotten veggies now...

How about games like the Might and Magic series? I could see a few decent third person RTS-esque adventures being fun on the DS.

I always thought they ought to put the original Super Smash Bros. on the DS. Sure, they'd need to fuck around with the control scheme a bit, but what could be cooler than carrying Super Goddamn Smash Bros. in your pocket?

I do admit, however, that touch screen function in such a game should be limited to menus only rather than gameplay. Unless, of course, the bottom screen is used for monitoring damage, lives, points, etc. and even that crazy "steal a life from your teammate" trick.
