The World Ends With You is a lot of fun, a pretty interesting and different RPG.
Any DS game with 'Castlevania' in title is pretty sweet, in my experience.
Orcs and Elves is an interesting D&D-like RPG game... It's a little short, though, and definitely more geared toward the Old School.
Advance Wars: Days of Ruin is a very good tactical game.
Puzzle Quest can also be entertaining.

Just don't get the new Final Fantasy Tactics.
Nah, it's fine, really. So long as you don't go expecting an epic plot. An excellent OCD game along with Etrian Odyssey, I thought.
Yeah, fair enough. I found the whole game really unorganized in terms of quests and plot but then I again I clocked in about 50 hours playing it so it's not like it isn't effective.

It's just...I want my political thriller back.

Tetris DS is a must if you like puzzles. Other good puzzle games are the Brain Age series, N+ (a must if you enjoy making your own levels in games), Exit and Lumines.

Warhammer for the DS is a great strategy game. I'll remind you of playing table-top strategy war games. Other great strategy games are Age of Empires, Shogun and Final Fantasy Tactics.

There aren't many good RPG's for the DS yet. There are some games that let you level your character up, but they are mostly shooters with RPG elements like Quantum of Solace.

I don't know what your definition of "good" is, but there are plenty of RPGs on the DS already. You know, actual RPGs, not shooters with leveling up.

Two completely new Lunar series games, Dragon Quest IV (never made it here before, so it's completely new to us), Chrono Trigger, remade Final Fantasies III and IV for starters. Etrian Odyssey, its sequel, Shiren and Izuna for the roguelike type RPG. FFTA2, Luminous Arc 1 & 2 and Disgaea DS for the SRPG itch. There are more, if you dig around, of course.

The games you listed are merely "ok" in my opinion. Except for Chrono Trigger which is really good. I didn't think of it at the time of my post. Note, I said "many" good RPG's not that there weren't "any" good ones. In my opinion, the original, non DS versions of the Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy series are better than the DS versions. Might as well get Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest games for Gameboy Advance and play them on the DS really since those series don't really make use of the DS's features very much. Plus they're much cheaper than the DS versions.

I really liked:
Advanced wars (both, AW:Dual Strike was a good TBS that allowed you to go super sayian and kick ass while AW:Days of Ruin was much more multiplayer balanced)
Castlevania (all 3, especially dawn of sorrow)
Meteos (NOT the disney one)
Phoenix wright (Great linnier "choose your own adventure" style game)
Professor Layton (DO NOT let the storybook style fool you, this game is not for kids.)
Mario Kart DS (the BEST MK IMO)
Puzzle Quest (its on every system, but hey...)
Metriod
Scourge: Hive (Grade A bargain bin title)
Geometry wars Galaxies: (What GW should have been in the first place, complete with upgradeable drone to help you)
Zelda (Wasn't as bad as Yahtzee made it sound, it was easy but lots of fun)
Kirby's fucking Canvas Curse (best use of the touchscreen ever. ever.)
Lost Magic (if you can get around the bad path finding AI and typical jrpg story, you have a pretty cool RTS/pokemon-collection game with spells you draw on-screen)
Lunar Knights (Unique game, kinda hack'n'slash JRPG)

All above I would buy again if my games got lost or stolen. There are a few others that I think are cool, but aren't the "must own" titles I tried making this list out to be. As long as you play fair, I also recommend one of those condemnable flash cards. I have all those games on real honest cartridges, but I don't have to carry any of them with me because they are all on my R4. It's pretty amazing what that convenience ends up doing for you.

Also, I have this case
http://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-DS-Lite-Game-Traveler-Screen/dp/B001GBETLS/ref=sr_1_49?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1229937193&sr=1-49
It's great because it slides into a plastic sleeve inside, and you just play it inside the case. It also has a nice pouch on the back where I've shoved up to 9 games in back (+1 in the system) to carry a total of 10 games with me. I've been able to cut that down because of that R4, but if you aren't interested in one, then the pouch is awesome.

Metal Slug 7 is one I'd highly reccomend. I've always loved the Metal Slug games from the time I discovered them in arcade machines, and when I saw one for the DS, I knew I had to get it.

You about "versions" when the only game in that list that does have non-DS releases outside of Japan is Final Fantasy IV. There it's mostly a matter of opinion whether you like changes in the remake and the GBA rerelease. The GBA rerelease is all out of whack in balance and is piss easy as a result, which was one of the my main problems with it. The remake on the DS fixes this.

FF3? We never got it here. DQ4? Yes, the Americans got the NES version, but to call that superior to the DS version is silly. Superior translation, superior sound, superior everything... not to mention finding a DS version of this game is far easier than finding the NES cart. The NES cart would probably also cost more. Chrono Trigger on the DS is much the same game as the SNES version, but we Europeans never got that either so I appreciate finally getting to (legally) play the game.

And let's not forget the upcoming Dragon Quests V and VI are games that were never released here in any shape or form.

Well, giving a shooter like Quantum of Solace as an example of an RPG makes it sound like there aren't any good RPGs, which just isn't true.
