Dubbed anime. Why is it so hated?

Same as above post. Plus, it sounds weird when you say a Japanese name or word in an English conversation
For me it's because of the terrible voice actors they get. I don't like the show in the first place but Naruto is the perfect example of this.
Generally it has to do with either bad translation, or poor voice acting. Although, there are certain jokes that dont translate well from japanese to english. (like the word for hair, paper, and god in japanese all sound the same, if you made a joke out of it, it wouldnt translate well into english. Sorry redundency.).
Overly dramatic Japanese lines sound awesome. Overly dramatic English lines sound corny. That's about it.
Because the vast majority of it is terrible. It's a simple reason, but a perfectly good one. The voice acting is almost always horrible, and on a bit more rare of an occasion the translation itself will simplify the story and characters to a point of the story's complete ruination. Sometimes this is not the case. Usually it is.
Well, that's a big part of it. But there's also the fact that the original voice acting is much more often than not more fit to the character, or at least more associated with the character.y1fella said:

I ought to disclaim that I'm not an expert on the topic, so this is only my best guess...
Because dubs frequently screw things up in the transition over. They frequently shoehorn jokes into serious moments, which is incredibly annoying.
Also, censorship, which 4Kids is notorious for doing.
Sometimes even the music gets screwed up. Let's hear a set of battle music shall we?
And of course, the actual dubbing can be screwed up the arse. Yes, I know some animes like Cowboy Bebop are better dubbed, but how often does that happen?

I was going to say the same thing. I just suggested it in a thread where someone is asking for examples of good dubbed anime. Baccano is phenomenally done dubbed. Besides, English voices fit better with the setting.Sincere outlaw said:
I think the major reason is that a lot of those people watch the Japanese dub first, then watch the English. with that, not only the voice, but even the language, adds to characterization. When that is changed, even if the acting is quality, the characterization is changed, and people complain.
The other reason I believe (other than stupid people who just automatically think it's better in Japanese, without even hearing it in English), is that people do not actually listen to the acting, or even really the voices in the Japanese. It's like when you read a book, most you tend to give the characters a voice, and even some extra characterization, in what is read. When they hear it in English, all of the characterizations they subconsciously imagined in the subs is now replaced by what was actually supposed to be conveyed by the spoken dialogue.
Though, there is still the fact that alot are really poor, but that is also true among many of the original Japanese voices, but people don't notice because they are reading subtitles, or because they don't speak Japanese, and thus don't know what poor acting sounds like in another language.
