The Painkiller from well, Painkiller.
Seriously, it's a handheld deskfan with spinning blades of death on it that cut up enemies in a lot better (and messier) fashion than a chainsaw. Still not satisfied? It shoots laserbeams aswell so you can hack of limbs, or seperate top-halfs from bottom-halfs, or you can fire the spinning blades so they helicopter slash through rows of enemies.

Gravity Gun isn't a default weapon, even if it has infinite ammo. The first weapon you get is the crowbar in Half-Life 2.
Same to the super shotgun in Doom 2, since that's first in Underhalls, Map02. You start with the pistol and fists in Map01 and can get the chainsaw, regular shotgun and rocket launcher... all before you can get the super shotgun.

MW2, dual .44 Magnums with FMJ. Say what you like about CoD, but that's some serious style right there.
Or the M4 Carbine with everything on it (shotgun over grenade launcher, usually) on MGS4. The underbarrel weapons make more sense on it than the do on MW2, because they're much faster to use.

The best default weapon definitely has to be the Painkiller from... Painkiller...
The primary weapon is a spinning blade that can dice anybody who comes close to bits and the secondary weapon is a rocket propelled grappling gun that both hits enemies and flings them back over your head AND attaches to the wall, creating a laser that burns any enemies that walk through it. And it has unlimited ammo.

There is no weapon greater than that of the Doom Shotgun. It's powerful, easy to find and keep stocked with ammo and for some reason it has an effective range of that of a sniper rifle in Modern Warfare.
One default weapon that has not been mentioned yet is the sledgehammer(or known to me as "Planet Fucker") from Red Faction Guerrilla.
One bad ass non default weapon has to be Din's Fire from the Ocarina of Time. It was your go-to /last resort weapon that never disappointed.
