It's really not. While the Two-gun system and EGO bar are jarring at first, they grow on you. I fucking love the demo and will fucking love the full game.

I was greatly disappointed that they turned it into a "you can only carry two guns and you have to hide behind a rock after a few shots because regenerating health is cool and health packs are for squares stuck in the 90's yo!" type of game. So I made Duke go around holding a piece of shit from the toilet for as long as possible as punishment. He did not enjoy it, and I got some laughs out of the things he said. So at least there's that.

I'd play it if I got it for a cheap price or as a gift. I didn't think it was bad. I was just disappointed that they turned it into Duke of Duty or Call of Nukem or whatever you want to call this regen health and two weapon only nonsense. It really felt like Duke was stuck in some other game but wasn't aware of it because he would have been making cracks about why the hell can he only carry two guns if he was.

I played on the PC BTW, and I didn't have too many problems with graphics or controls. I just needed to map jump to something else, because the space bar is not a good button to have you randomly mash when something jumps on your face and my hands are on WASD and the mouse.

P.S. Love the hints in the loading screens "if you die it's your own fault" lololol
"Picking up shit out of the toilet doesn't take away ego, although we really really wanted it to." :D

And if the full game is good, I will litterly fuck my duke bust so hard as a thank you for bringing one more slice of awesome into the world.

Let me make a short pause here to discuss the health system. Yes, health kits are missing and the health regeneration system is implemented, but I don't see it as a bad point, seeing as the game is rather challenging on higher difficulties.
Yeah, this just in: Games with health packs are also challenging on higher difficulties. Go play Doom on Ultra-Violence and tell me that it's not hard, because it is. Making health regen actually makes it easier, because any time you get into trouble you just get behind something and wait for your health to come back. With health packs, I have to play with skill because I can't just go hide for 30 seconds and be back at 100% health if I decide to do something stupid.

In a word, horrid, for one the mouse felt very un-sensitive and i had it up to max, I felt slow and had to take cover far to many times for a duke nukem game and i could only carry two guns, this isn't duke nukem, its a modern day shooter with Duke nukem cut-out boards and posters on it.
What this guys said...

Jokes you wouldn't even give a sympathy laugh to

It's a cover shooter instead of the old stye run and gunner

Crap frame-rate

Bad hit detection (in a single player game.... WTF)
Wow, that's four killing blows to a game like Duke Nukem right there. I can't say I was really hyped for it though, although I will probably be picking up a pre-owned copy at some point. The hit detection is really bad? That hasn't been a problem since the PS1 days...

I don't get why everyone is criticising regenerating health to be honest. It's annoying when you can just hide mid fight and nothing can touch you til you recover but nowhere near as annoying as scouring levels for health kits used to be.

This makes me so sad. So very sad. Seriously, cover?! Dies fast?! He can only carry 2 weapons at once?! What is this blasphemy!! What were they thinking??

I'll still play the demo myself when it's available for everyone, but your judgement on shooters isn't all that bad, so I'm wary now.
It's not cover in the Gears sense, more in the COD sense. Get shot, duck behind, regen, come back.

And yeah, 2 weapon limit.

I'm not being hyperbolic for the sake of it here either, I rather wanted to like this game. But it just felt bland, broken and unpolished.
dammit, even Unreal Tournament 3, Gears of War, and fucking Bulletstorm let you carry more than 2 weapons at once!

this is saddening, to say the least, i wasn't expecting much more (since i wasn't actually hyped for this game for 14 years) but i at LEAST expected to be able to Run n Gun like in the old days... that was the "make or break" point of sale for me :(

Of course something that you've been hyped about for 14 years is going to seem bad when it doesn't descend from the heavens in a golden chariot, cure all sickness and disease and lead you to the promise land!

In all seriousness, I thought the demo was ok. Considering how little there was in the demo I think it might be best to wait for the opportunity to see or play the whole thing. Who knows what's actually waiting for us in the full game right?

When I played it everything seemed fine, but I played the pc version.

Fiddly shooting
Jokes you wouldn't even give a sympathy laugh to
Duke is a pussy and dies too fast, and gets view-kicked when shot
It's a cover shooter instead of the old stye run and gunner
'Chaaaarge!' - style enemy AI
The worst graphics I've seen on the 360
Crap frame-rate
Driving sections are awful and look retarded
Bad hit detection (in a single player game.... WTF)
Limited audio - I got so sick of Duke's jumping grunting noise
Stupid physics 'puzzles' that were outstaying their welcome in 2005

It's just... bad in every conceivable way to be honest.
Fiddly how?
Well I found alot of the lines to be really funny. Especially "Oops" when you step on a shrunk enemy.
He actually dies comparably quickly to how he would have in the last game. And what? Can't handle having to keep track of where your cursor is?
Circle-strafe is king.
Which counter-acts the supposed "Cover based combat".
Blame the 360 for running on tech from 2005.
Tech from 2005 that was mediocre even back then.
I'll admit the controls did take some getting used to, but it's not that bad.
Hit detection worked fine for me. I shot the Railgun at a pig's leg, and the leg tore off.
The first part is kind of inaccurate, but I will agree with you about the jumping grunt. Also his sprinting gasps.
What? Pick up a few barrels and push a mine cart with your face. It breaks up the action and can help you feel smart for doing some of the tougher ones (When they come along).

We're just...disagreeing in every conceivable way.

"Hard" and "Challenging" don't always mean the same thing, buddy. The way I see it, a hard game punishes you at every step, while requiring you to be extremely skilled at it, while a challenging game raises the difficulty bar a little, while still being rather easy, just to give you a sense of accomplishment.

I never played a game in which I thought "well damn, this would've been a lot better If I could've just walked over health kits and magically heal that huge hole between my eyes". Both systems lack realism, but one is easier on the player than the other. I just can't see that as a major flaw.
