And that is why I don't like reviewers/don't see the point of them. They verbally eviscerated the game, and it still does great from the looks of things. They're just regular jack-offs whose job just happens to be presenting one man's opinion as if it's more important than everyone else's. But right now, I can't help but wonder how the US sells will turn out. As much as I hate reviewers, I hate the fact that they actually influence people even more.

Your thoughts on this turn out for Duke Nukem?

People score DNF not very well, DNF takes top-spot, you blame reviewers? Right then.

(Also, I believe a few studies have shown that reviews hardly influence people at all.)

As for my thoughts: it clearly shouldn't be up there, but there you go.

I meant that more like "What's the point of reviewers? They absolutely kick the shit out of the game and it still does fine from the looks of things".

Nice and mature position there, mate. "Reviewers disagree? I HATE REVIEWERS"

And besides, where do they come into this? They're bashing DNF. I bet the only reason it's selling to high is the hilarious trailer, which had boobs and asses everywhere (censored of course).

EDIT: Ah, I see. Now your first post makes sense.

People wanted Duke simple as that, maybe we will get a REAL Duke Nukem game after this one. Since this thing has been in production for years. I bet if there was no hiicups it would be very good.

Hopefully the sales will help Gearbox into making another Duke Nukem game entirely from scratch instead of duct-taping together what was left by 3D Realms. Still didn't stop me from enjoying Duke Nukem Forever though.

Reviews preform a function. Giving people an idea of a game before they buy it. Some games dont need this and will sell anyway. How many people read the revie for the new COD to decide weither to buy it? This game is outside the system (like a lot of others).

If it was a random new IP it would not be doing as well at all.

Did you play it?

All things considered, it kinda deserved the mauling it got. A lot of people bought it, some will be happy with it but many will be disappointed.

I also feel like I'm the only person who can't wait for FEAR 3. I know I'm never the only one, but I have seen no one else mention it. I think it looks pretty awesome.
I'm looking forward to it. I was sceptical about the co-op as it means the scary factor will be completely gone. But it'll probably be a good fun, meaty action shooter, just like F.E.A.R. 2.

People who actually care about the quality of the things that they buy can read reviews to get differing opinions from multiple perspectives, allowing them to make an informed decision. That's the point of reviewers.

People who don't care about the quality of the things that they buy...are the reason that Duke Nukem Forever is the top selling game in the UK.

The 500 posts Ive seen discussing the crappy demo saying "Yeah it sucked but Im getting it cause its DUKE man." Is the reason its selling well.

Which is stupid because these people are encouraging what the developers did.

I don't really see how reviewers factor into this. Maybe they had no influence at all, which (partially) explains why it is doing so well. Or maybe they had a ton of influence and it would have sold even better if they had been positive. Who knows?

I doubt most people who bought it were even expecting a great game. I think people just want to play as the Duke again. Duke Nukem (the character) and DNF (the game) are quite literally legends of gaming. Even if the game is terrible, people want to experience it for themselves.

Because fanboys will always ignore reviews until AFTER they buy the game. Same shit would happen if, say, Skyward Sword managed to suck horrendously. The fanboys would still buy it up...

Good sales doesn't mean that it's a good game.

I've played the PC version for a few hours and I've enjoyed seeing the Duke in action again, but I'd be very disappointed, if I had payed full price for this.
The humor is great, but the gameplay is boring and the graphics are mediocre.
What they should have done is an old-school PC shooter with fast movement and tons of weapons. Instead they made a console shooter with slow movement, regenerating health and only 2 weapons at a time.

The job of a reviewer is to evaluate artistic merit. The job of a developer is to make a game people want to play. The fact that the two don't necessarily coincide is the fault of neither.

It's because some series, no matter how bad they get, will sell well just due to the fact it's part of a series. See: Final Fantasy 13. Imagine that the next CoD came out, and all the reviewers gave it 1/10 at best. Do you really think that'd stop people from buying it like hotcakes? On the other hand, when games like Minecraft get great reviews (or at least great word-of-mouth), then that's going to have a major impact, as it has done.

Basically: popular series will always sell well. Reviewers are only meant to help people who are trying to decide if they want to buy it with their decision.

You're on a site that does reviews, it's not very classy to say reviewers are "regular jack-offs whose job just happens to be presenting one man's opinion as if it's more important than everyone else's".

I assume it being the top selling game here is because there's a huge case of "Where the fuck are the good new releases?". There's Brink, something that not even its own adverts can make look appealing, and not much else.
