Simple topic (probably not original) in any form of fiction, games, movies, books etc. What decision made you go "what... really!?"
For me, it'd be in Red Dwarf. The episode Legion.
This is in Season 6. The crew has lost Red Dwarf, and is chasing it with increasing loss of hope across the galaxy in Star Bug. I liked these series because it really explored the sci fi element of the universe. My problem is the Legion episode.
Basically, the crew are lured to this strange facility populated by a masked man named Legion. The crew spend the night in the facility. It is full of wonderfully advanced technology, a seemingly unlimited supply of food and drink. Each crew member gets a room personalized to his tastes (e.g. Lister's has an electric guitar, a selection of his favorite movies, two dozen eight packs of beer and a spare pair of sneakers in the ice box) There is apparently a cyber park that allows you to virtually generate any point in history and do anything with anyone you wish.
The catch is that Legion is a combined entity of all the people in the facility. It's not like he's draining them, or anything, it's just as long as they are there he is alive. The crew escapes because they have to chase down Red Dwarf. Why? Because it has a large (but finite) source of food, and it means escape from the cramped quarters of Star Bug. However, in past episodes, it has been remarked that none of the crew enjoys being trapped on Red Dwarf, and yet they still leave this chance at a great life for no valid reason.
