Shattered Union. "We decided to nuke the capital and cause the United States to go into a terrible civil war so that we can seize Alaska. That's it. A shout-out to those peacenix terrorists who helped us out in our devious plan! Thank you!"

Great gameplay, awful storyline.

STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl took the cake to an incredible degree. Not only was the real ending pointlessly hard to find, but it was ridiculous. C-Consciousness? Knowlsphere? That stuff was so ridiculous. Honestly though, the problem wasn't so much that the ending was weird, but it came out of nowhere. Up until your meeting with the C-Consciousness representative, there was basically no evidence I found to indicate that anything like C-Consciousness was occurring. I suppose that's what really irked me... It was an OK twist, but it had no buildup whatsoever, making it positively stupid.

Prey, when you find Jen.

She's in a capsule in a room that just screams boss arena, with her legs obscured by fog and claiming she can't feel her legs.

My first thought? "Oh, gee. I wonder if she's been genetically merged with a hideous monster that, when I open this capsule, will try to kill me?"

When she steps out of the capsule? "Oh, look. She's been genetically merged with a hideous monster that is trying to kill me"

EDIT: Damn, beaten to this one.

The "horrible" secret at the end of Jade Empire might've been unsettling if you were born and raised in that world but to me it was just a "meh". So he kept the water dragon trapped and bleeding water? The dragon herself seems more miffed at that than actually angry or in pain.

The worst part of that game was myself though, because I figured out the entire plot after the first cave ~~ That game makes me sad because it had such potential, but the east felt too westernized (some accents would've been nice for example :p) and the fighting system was too trivial. Stupid console dumb-down ~~
Not to mention to many things were fetch quests. And IGN gave it a 9.9 of 10...

"Diablo II:
Without the expansion pack, you only get to kill 2 of the 3 prime evils... is that really saving the world?"

Doesn't the ending movie in D2 show Baal killing Merias and striding out in a sea of fire? : P It's not like the ending is all puppies and flowers without the expansion : P
Can't forget that you have to end it all by killing those evil cows.

Sooooo... Liquid has taken over Ocelot's mind through an arm...

Too far Kojima. I can only take so much.

In F.E.A.R., in the first level. Your running around this warehouse. You're on the roof. All of a sudden, Paxton Fettel hits you in the face with a 2x4. AND YOU BLACK OUT. How can this guy stand shotgun blasts at close range, high explosives, and repeated machine gun fire, and yet be knocked out by a wooden board?

There are other parts where Fettel just narrowly escapes. Also, that fat guy in the shirt all of a sudden deciding to try to kill you about 2 seconds after you meet him. He's only there so you can feel sorry for him later on when he gets shot. He was an unnecessary character.

Every single "plot twist" in Oblivion was quite bad in my opinion.
"Oh, we just found out that [we need a/someone stole a] {insert generic magic item here} we needed to [do something occult]"

Well, sad to say, Zelda is the culprit for possibly one of the worst plot twists ever. A good game, too. Not that CDI stuff.

Anyone remember Link's Awakening? I mean, seriously. You go on a grand adventure and, nope. It was all a dream. Never mind.

I agree with Dectilon. In fact, there's even a cutscene to explain it within the first 3 hour of the game. IIRC the reason the ending was so broken and mismatched from the rest of the game was that they were rushed for Christmas. An ENTIRE PLANET was left out.
I think that was my biggest disappointment with KOTOR II, the fact that I could see the sawed-off stumps of amputated plot lines EVERYWHERE! And they were rather disorienting. I chase conversation trees like some people chase bonus items - I want to unlock every single goddamn one of them. And so I'd end up wild goose-chasing some subplot only to have the whole thing dead end? How's that for a dumbass plot twist? You think a character is a such-and-such and they actually turn out to be a....

...

...What do you mean, "The End?"

And that happened with pretty much every NPC! Grar! So frustrating! For godssakes, Obsidian! It says STAR WARS right there on the front, and it's the sequel to one of the best-reviewed Xbox games ever! It's gonna sell! Suck it up, take the time, and FINISH THE GAME! I know it was Christmas, I know you were going to miss your bus and be late for work and your boss was going to chew you out, but that that's no reason to go running out of the house with shaving cream on your cheek, toast clenched in your teeth, and your pants falling down around your knees.

Okay, I thought that that one was rather well done but *SPOILER* using EXACTLY the same 'plot twist' for Phantom Hourglass? Come on!
*END SPOILER*

God of War 2, Athena tells Kratos before dying that he's Zeus's son.

1. GoW 1 TOLD US that in an extra cutscene AND its clearly Zeus that gets him out of Hades. The writer literally said "I don't care" in the extra disc, but that doesn't make it any less anti-climactic.

2. For a game that uses only uses the public's grasp of Greek mythology, it's OBVIOUS that every Greek hero and their inbred grandmother was fathered by Zeus, so what's the point of it being a plot twist?

3. I THOUGHT Kratos knew since Zeus kept saying "my son," but it was apparently interpreted in the royal "father to us all" sense of the term until the end.

As a heads up to God of War 3, NOBODY should be surprised that Kratos has an unnamed brother (who might be Christianity's Satan or Thanos) as that was ANOTHER extra clip from the first game that for no sane reason blames Kratos for his death and life in hell.

Not quite sure why you're blaming Obsidian. I'm surprised you missed it, but there was a big thing for awhile where people were pissed at Lucasarts over that. Obsidian was told they would have around 10 months for development time, yet Lucasarts changed that at the last moment to 6 to cash in on the Christmas rush without warning which is why Obsidian had to act in a flurry to finish what they could of the game before it was sent off to printing. The entire premise of the Restoration mod is that many of the assets Obsidian didn't have time to finish were still on the disk, simply not implemented yet. Such as a real ending!

Linky: http://www.team-gizka.org/index.html

When the guy who's paying you as well as owns all the rights tell you the schedule has changed, you don't argue with them. You can't! Especially not a small studio like Obsidian who had that as their first project. Lucasarts would simply cut funding, find another studio to make the game that'll listen to orders, then sue Obsidian for failure to supply.
