I have bought all of the core DnD 3.5 edition books I could find. And quite a lot of 3.0 supplements.
...I've never found anyone to play with.

I know his pain - the only nearby group that does DnD plays 4e. Yuk!

If you are playing 4th Edition then get the subscription to the Wizards of the Coast site because it will save you a lot of money. You may want to get a real-life player's handbook (Volume One I would presume) because it is handy to have with you when you play.

I personally play 3.5 because the 3e book is pretty cheap and Wizards has released all of the info for it on the internet for free under the SRD. This is mainly if you just play with friends , though, since 4e is what is mainly used at drop-in games at comic-book stores and such.

Ugh that's terrible! I got lucky and converted my friends to the game :D Now they're all really into it, we're in a campaign that just hit epic level (lvl 22 Lizardfolk Barbarian/Bear Warrior/Warshaper and lvl 22 Half Elf Half Dragon Sorcerer/Dragon Disciple) And it's fantastic :)

Do NOT start with 4th!!!!!!!!!

It is made of fail. Find a competent, non-ADD riddled group that works with 3.5 Only then will you know true majesty.
