Kriv grunts disapprovingly, placing a foot on the Bandit's chest and the blade of his khopesh against his neck. "What a pathetic excuse for a man. You bring shame to your family. Where is the woman you kidnapped? Where is the fifth man of your group? Answer me, scum!"
Boindal staggers back as the magical fireball strikes him, "by Moradin's beard!" As the kobolds pour out of the forest Boindal takes a fighting stance, readying his hammer and shield he begins to assess his foes. But as the kobolds continue to surge from the forest he begins to think that he may not be able to handle this many. "I not be one to run from a fight, but I think this may be a bit much for the two of us, so up you go." With that Boindal picks up Furgin and throws him onto the back of Eponas.
Strength mod 3 + d20 = 14
Boindal then climbs up himself, trying to avoid anymore fire balls.
Athletics trained of 8 + d20 = 18
As the arrows begin to rain down after them, Boindal spurred Eponas on as fast as he dared toward Winterhaven and away from the army of kobolds rampaging from the woods after them.
Didn't think the first post went through, so did this one then saw the first one actually did post! Argh I hope I get my internet sorted tomorrow. Stupid phone!
Really sorry that I haven't posted today guys! I'll get one done tomorrow as early as possible so that we can move forward. I'll just EDIT this post so if the GM could hold on until I've edited a good post into this, that'd be great!
Quivering under foot, the thug?s voice trembles as he speaks, ?H-H-How do you know about that?? He quickly shakes his head, realising he is in no position to be asking questions, ?Elliot took the woman to Irontooth and Derindahl. They ... they are the ones that deal with selling slaves to the Bloodreavers. I don?t know where they meet, I ain?t considered high enough rank yet. I am just a lowly bandit, p-please spare me.?
Baldur suddenly hears the sound of a horse coming up the road from the direction they came. Looking back to the corner where John lies sleeping in the cart, Baldur and Kriv can see a huge horse, with two small humanoids on the back of it. Squinting in the hot afternoon sun, Baldur can?t quite make out who is upon the horse.
An hour ago:
Furgin taken by surprise flies up through the air and lands upon the horse with a thud, his crotch hurting from the landing. The Dwarf hurls himself up upon Eponas and commands her to make a move.
Sling bullets and a flaming magical orb narrowly miss the two adventurers as Eponas sets off, picking up speed quickly. Within no time, the grand horse is galloping at a speed Boindal is familiar with. But after what happened last time, he grips the reigns even tighter.
An hour or so passes, and the Halfling and the Dwarf come upon a damaged cart left upon a corner in the road. In the back of the cart they can see a man, sleeping beneath the an old tent canvas. Moving around the corner slightly they see a bridge crossing a river, two humanoids, heavily armoured, stand on the other side of the Bridge. Neither Furgin or Boindal can make out what the two on the otherside of the bridge are doing.
Furgin takes 1 damage from the landing upon the horse, putting him at 22/23.
I rolled perception for all of you, not a single one of the party managed to roll a 16 or higher in perception, so squinting in the very hot and considerably bright daylight, none of you can make out each other. Pretty amusing. Role play a go-go.
Seeing the new arrivals, Baldur draws his sword again. "Kriv, we've got company. Quickly, hitch your friend back up on the cart and let's get John out of here, he still needs aid. I'll watch this one." Baldur points his sword at the bandit. "Not like you're in any position to go anywhere, eh?"
Upon seeing the armoured men in the road Boindal pulls back on the reins, slowing Eponas down. "Look alive my little friend, looks like we may have a wee bit o trouble ahead of us." As Eponas draws nearer to the cart, boindal notices that the sleeping man looks like he has been injured, and may be in need of healing.
perception 4 + d20 = 19, just assuming it passes basef on previous post inferring that a target number of 16 was needed to see each other
As they close with the men on the bridge Boindal makes sure his hammer is within easy reach in case things go wrong. Boindal decides that someone should ask questions first, least a protracted fight give the army of kobolds behind him time to catch up. "Greetings travelers. Name's Boindal and this be my friend Furgrin. We be on the road to Winterhaven. Looks like you've caught a spot o trouble here. Do ya be needin a hand?"
To clarify the confusion with my last post, because I explained the perception thing badly. You obviously see each other, but you failed perception checks to see who or what each other were, or what you were up to. For example, at first Boindal and Furgin wouldn't have seen the subdued man underneath Kriv's foot. Of course, with time and another check as above, he can now.
Also of note: Depending on your place in the order of setting out, the priestess would have told you of the adventurers sent ahead of you. The order was, Furgin, Kriv, Baldur and Boindal. This means that Boindal is aware that the Pelor priestess sent a Human Bardbarian, Dragonborn Knight and Halfing Ranger ahead already for example. I will leave it to you guys to roleplay if the characters connect the dots.
And to clarrify primary quest objective, as it has been a while: You have all been sent to Winterhaven to investigate a death cult. This is not saying you can't do other things, like save John's wife, but I thought it good to put a reminder out there to allow for role play.
I will post to move the story along either late tonight, or first thing tomorrow, GMT. So until then, role play your interaction, what you do with the bandit, and moving up the last few miles of road. When I post again tomorrow you will be on the final stretch towards Winterhaven.
Before Furgin has a chance to react, the dwarf - Boindal - grabs and tosses him onto the gigantic horse. Furgin winces as he lands heavily on his ribs, the saddle digging in uncomfortably. Positioning himself to face the advancing kobolds, Furgin grips Eponas's flanks tightly with his knees, readying an arrow in his bow. With the constant movement of the horse, Furgin finds it difficult to steady his bow. "I'll try and slow them down!" Feeling the need to deter the bloodthirsty mob, though, Furgin picks out the closest runner and looses an arrow towards him.
Minor action: Hunter's Quarry on closest kobold. (quarry takes additional damage from a succesful attack by Furgin)
Standard action: Attack closest kobold. Due to the horse's movement I get -4 to the attack roll. Attack with Goblin Totem Bow: 1d20+4 = 14. Damage: 1d8+6 = 14. Additional Damage (Hunter's Quarry): 1d6 = 2. Total Damage: 16.
Number of arrows: 29/30
The present, just short of the bridge:
As Boindal reins Eponas to a halt, Furgin peers through the shimmering heat towards a bridge. The man in the cart had looked injured and there was the intense air of a fight here. Furgin could make out two large, humanoid figures on the bridge. The sun glittering off their bodies implied armour. Without a word to Boindal, Furgin lowers himself from the horse, clutching his bow in sweaty palms. "I'm going to take a look..." he mutters so that only Boindal could hear. As a halfling, Furgin was relying upon his races' kind and peaceable reputation to keep him from harm.
As he slowly shuffles to the bridge, Furgin sees that the two figures are a heavy-set human with a beard and a fearsome-looking dragonborn. The human is standing over a hysterical - and heavily wounded - man, sword drawn. Furgin began to think that stepping up to investigate was a particularly bad idea.
Furgin tried to calm his nerves. "H-hello there strangers." His voice cracked nervously. Darting his eyes between the two armoured folk, Furgin can think of nothing to say. "Hot weather we're having eh?" He finally breathes out, frowning at his own stupid remark.
Baldur doesn't turn around, but waves his sword in greeting at the timid address. "That's an understatement. Consider yourself lucky you're not wearing most of a bison. Don't mind us, we're just taking care of these bandits here. It's all under control, feel free to continue on your way."
Baldur returns his attention to the bandit. "Right you, anything else to share? No? Then give me your boots, quickly now."
Kriv lifts his foot allowing the bandit room to move. In shock, he slowly removes his boots. Quietly, he holds them out to Baldur.
I am not moving this thread forward untill the party are aquainted. I will give it another day or so. Don't worry about waiting for a player if they have been quiet for more than 24 hours, just wade in and start a conversaton with the characters that will be fighting alongside yours for the forseeable future.
"Do you really need to take the man's boots?" Furgin asks the human, confidence creeping back into his voice now that he knew that they had been fighting bandits. "His injury looks to be enough of a punishment."
Boindal walks over to the group after dismounting Eponas. Figuring that the human and dragonborn are not the bandits, Boindal is puzzled why the bandit is handing over his shoes. "Ye be thinking of letting this man walk back to town without shoes on, or are you that much in need of shoes yerself?"
"You think he'll be walking anywhere?" Kriv sneers as he gives the tratnyr a quick, painful twist before yanking it out of the highwayman's leg. "How could I let this poor soul walk all the way to the medical treatment and freedom of a town all by himself? I plan on offering this kind and deserving gentleman a ride," Kriv pulls out the hempen rope from his adventurer's pack, "In fact, I insist." Using the rope, Kriv tightly hogties the bandit and proceeds to drag him toward the cart. "Though the back is kind of full... Looks like we'll just have to drag him behind then. Of course, maybe if I was motivated enough, I could find a way to squeeze him in next to John. You remember him don't you? Of course you do! John told me a very interesting story about you. Maybe you could remember in which direction Elliot left with the girl to meet with his friends. That'd make em much easier to find, and put me in a good motivated mood to make some room for ya. Or not, either way works for me. My, look at all the rocks in this road, you'd think they'd take better care it, huh?"
Not one to argue with massive reptiles, Baldur just shrugs off his idea. "Fair enough, I'd rather leave him to the wilds but if you fancy a souvenier, be my guest."
As Kriv attents to the cart, Baldur removes his helm and crouches by the river's edge. "The day is won and to the victor go the spoils." Using his helm as a bowl, drinks the cooling water and cools his face and neck. "So tell me, small one; what brings you out this way?" He pats the ground next to the halfling in invitation and offers his water-filled helm.
Furgin?s arrow grazes the hide shoulder pad of one of the Kobold?s armour. An inch or so to the left and the arrow would have causes a debilitating wound to the foul creature.

The present
Tips_of_Fingers is away at a wedding or some shit, so he has told me to pilot Furgin untill he is back.
The Halfling politely refuses the offer of a drink of water and crouches down besides the barbarian. Smiling, Furgin asks, ?So you headed to Winterhaven then? What brings you and your colleague to this part of the Snakewood??
Meanwhile, Kriv interrogates the Bandit further.
?He... he headed towards Winterhaven, down the road,? the bandit points with his chin, ?Honestly, all I know is that Irontooth usually holds up with some loyal kobold clan south of the Winterhaven farmsteads. I?ve never been there myself, Elliot wouldn?t let me.?
The party find 40 gold pieces, a great bow, 2 clubs, 23 arrows and 2 sets of leather armour. Divide that as you please, or leave some of it if you want. Just let me know.
Baldur and Kriv gain 120 experience each for the bandit encounter. Boindal gained 100 experience for dealing with the stable master. Furgin gained 75 for remaining undetected with the Kobold situation. I will keep track of experience and party loot, but would appreciate it if you could tell me who picks up what, etc etc.
"Not so much a colleague than an interesting soul that distracted from the heat. I myself have received a summons from a Pelorite about ...
EXPOSITION EXPOSITION etc.
"... so I headed out this way from Vaasa and found that Dragonborn and his hurt friend. To be honest, the will of gods can wait until we rescue John's sweet wife. For while I have no stake in his well being, I cannot turn away from those who ask for help." Baldur replaces his damp helm and stands up.
"You didn't answer my question; What brings you to Winterhaven?"
?Heh,? the Halfling smiles, ?Looks like we are on the same quest, friend! I was sent this way by a young priestess of Pelor too. Something about cults and wrong doings.? Furgin stands up and places his thumbs into his belt, looking over towards his new Dwarven and Dragonborn acquaintances, ?They are obviously the adventuring type too eh, Baldur? If they aren?t on the same quest, they may well be able to help us. But of course, finding this chaps wife is our first priority.?
Furgin swings his back pack onto his back and moves across the Bridge. Speaking out loudly, in an attempt to allow the whole party to hear, ?We should take this injured gent to Winterhaven to see a healer, then see if we can find out where this Irontooth fella might be. What do yall think??
Not completely comfortable with the way the dragonborn is treating the prisoner Boindal keeps a close eye on him. "All right lad, he has told you everything he knows, know let's patch him up so he may yet live to face the penalties for his crimes. Ye may be wantin vengeance, but even the lowest scum o the earth deserves a chance at redemption. We be needin to take him to Winterhaven where the local powers can do with him what they will." With that Boindal takes out a spare shirt from his pack and begins to bandage the bandit's leg.
Heal check 4 + d20 = 14 to stabilize/stop the bleeding/make sure he won't die right away
When Boindal is satisfied that he has done the best he can for the wounded bandit he turns to the Dragonborn, "an don't ya be think we be lettin him drag behind the cart! He held up his part of the bargin, now you hold up yours."
