"You'd dare to question my honor to my face? That I would not keep my word?" Kriv growls angrily at the dwarf. "I don't know how things are among your people, but any true Dragonborn values his word. When we tell you something, you can hold us to it." Kriv heaves the bandit roughly into the cart, though careful not to hit John. "Brining him to Winterhaven was my intention anyway. The coward is undeserving of the glory of death in battle, I'll leave him to the justice of the locals. I spare no kindness for dishonorable cowards who prey on the defenseless though, I will not go out of my way to assure his trip is a comfortable one."

Kriv then continues on to begin re-rigging up his crodlu to the cart. "Now I must be off quickly, as I've a man in urgent need of healing, a kidnapped woman to rescue, a Pelorian priestess to offer my shield to, and by the sounds of it, some slave traders, a tribe of kobolds, and some cult of lunatics that will try to stop me. At the least. Though I believe the halfling and Baldur over there match the descriptions of some of the others the Priestess said would be helping. I assume you travel with the little one because you are the fourth?"

"Aye that I be. Name's Boindal, and I did not mean any disrespect to you or your kin, I just wanted to be sure we were both on the same page." Boindal climbs upon Eponas in preparation to get moving onto Winterhaven. "As for the kobolds, Furgin and I can confirm that they may be a problem, ran into a whole mess of them a way back."

I figured Boindal has mounted and dismounted Eponas enough times now that he doesn't need to roll.

The wind upon the faces of the party is a welcome relief from the dry heat of the summer?s day. The road beneath their feet is level. An occasional ancient cobblestone peeks through the dirt road, indicating decades of neglect. As the party makes their way down the final stretch of the Kings Road, Baldur and Furgin begin to notice tracks on the road, not made by normal footfall. The footprints leading up and down the road appear to have been made by small, clawed feet.

Small creatures hiding behind the rocks spring into view and begin to move toward you. With a shriek, the small humanoids attack. Any adventurer familiar with the Snakewood recognises these critters; scaled and rust-colored, they have reptilian heads and tails, and stand at around three and half feet tall.

Furgin, spotting them first, equips his bow, and pointing calls, ?More bleeding Kobolds, really??

Roll initiative folks! And if you like, let me know what you want to do if you go first. I will reply over the course of tomorrow. Always feel free to add flavour/thoughts/dialogue/free actions between turns. Because that is what free actions are for.

Both Boindal and Furgin are in the same square, the one occupied by Furgin on the map. Both of you are on Horseback. Kriv is atop his Crodlu and Baldur is riding the rickety cart.

Also, I fucking hate Sundays

It was the good perception checks from Furgin and Baldur that stopped you from being surprised.

Baldur

"Lizards? They look about as friendly as you, Kriv. I've never seen their like before; go on ahead, I'll defend the cart."

Initiative 10. Activating Skald's Aura (minor), draw sword (move), ready Staggering Note for when one attempts to get closer than 2 squares to the cart. 25 (crit) vs. Will : 8 damage, pushed back 2 squares and one ally when adjacent to moving enemy makes a basic melee against it.

I still have a few days before I go AWOL. I'll be able to post until Tuesday evening. For now, I'm going to take back Furgin's reins. Thanks for stepping in Mr. GM, I expect you'll do a fine job when I'm absent for a few more days lol.

Oh yeah...I have no character sheet to hand so you may need to work out the attack and damage rolls. I vaguely remember my attack being +8 and my damage being 1d8+6. Let me know if that's wrong.

For now, I'm going to roll for intiative. I can't remember what my dexterity modifier is so if you could add that on, I'd be greatful lol.

Roll for Initiative = 11 + whatever my dexterity modifier is. By the way, this battle is going to be such a ***** without my character sheet handy....

Furgin jumps from Eponas's back, landing with a roll before darting into the cover of the nearby trees. Feeling much safer amongst the foliage, Furgin nocks an arrow and targets the closest kobold for death. breathe in, and out, he thinks, steadying his breathing as he was taught. "Methinks you picked the wrong group, kobolds." Furgin says as he keeps his aim steady on the snarling kobold.

I have assumed that dismounting a horse is a minor action. As such, for actually jumping off of the horse I did an acrobatics check and rolled a 12. +12 acrobatics (If I've remembered correctly) makes it 24.

I move 3 squares north of my starting position, ending up in the bushes.

Finally I use Hunter's Quarry (minor action) on the kobold that's closest to us.

I have checked to see if I can substitute a standard action for an extra minor action and I'm pretty sure it's ok. Not having the players handbook here is also a ***** lol. Again, if my choice of actions goes against the rules, lemme know and I'll edit as necessary.

Boindal

When Boindal sees the kobolds spring out from the side of the road he smiles and readies his hammer and shield, "Aye, now the odds are more in our favour ye scaly devils!"

Initiative 13. In my turn I am going to jump down off the horse and move to attack the nearest kobold with Iron First; 14 vs. AC: 15 damage and until the end of my next turn I gain resistance to all damage equal to my Wis which is 4. If one of my ally's get's attacked within 2 of me then I will use Guardian's Counter which means me and the ally shift 2 squares, exchanging places and I take the hit. After the hit is resolved I make a melee basic attack; 24 vs. AC: 13 damage. Also I'm at work the next two days so I'll try to post best I can during my lunch :)

Boindal and Furgin can tell from the colour of the Kobold's skin that these are not the same tribe encountered a few hours ago.

The Kobold at the back of the group stabs his spear into the ground, and pulls a smaller javelin from his back. Suddenly Boindal finds this spear landing point first in the road a few feet from where he sits upon Eponas.

At the back of the group, Baldur notices a Kobold Shaman riding atop a large badger, half the size of a horse. Blades of bone emerge from the creatures fur on its legs and sides, its eyes glow red. The Shaman atop the creature points at the cart and screams in Draconic, which only Kriv understands, ?Kill the humans. Derindahl will reward us for our courage! Kill them now!? the tips of the creature?s clawed fingers crackle with energy and a bolt of electricity flies forth, narrowly missing Baldur.

Two more of the Kobolds charge the Halfling and Dwarf atop the horse from the front. The first thrust of a spear narrowly misses Furgin, but the second lands firmly in his underside, splitting armour and drawing blood.

Furgin doesn?t wait around to take another spear to the side. Leaping down from Eponas he attempts to roll away out of reach of the Kobold?s lengthy weapon. Fortunately, the Halfling is more than quick enough, and the Kobold is surprised at the nimble Halfling?s speed. Diving into the cover of the trees, he spins, takes aim and lets fly an arrow. The arrow plants itself firmly in the face of the aggressive Kobold soldier, killing it instantly.

Boindal looks down the road as he readies to take action, and notices a heavily armoured Kobold peeking out from behind the boulder. It appears there are enemies hidden, waiting to take action at the right time.

Initiative is done.

The spear did 4 damage to Furgin. I take it you ?moved? off horse into wood, ?minor? as quarry and ?standard? to fire. I rolled for you, and you nailed him hard.

Boindal is up now I thought I will allow you to write up your action as you haven?t written them fully yet. Your passive perception spots the two badly hidden Kobolds up ahead. They have a +9 to Stealth yet failed against your passive perception. Idiots. So you know, your 14 to hit is going to miss against the nearest Kobold. Write that into your post.

Boindal
Before Boindal leaps from Eponas he shouts a warning to the rest of the party, "careful lads, there be two armoured ones skulking behind those rocks up there." Hammer and shield in hand Boindal then leaps from Eponas to land behind the kobold that tried to stab him.

athletics 8 + d20 = 25 to jump off horse and land in the square behind the kobold.

As Boindal lands he spins around to try and bring his hammer to bear onto the kobold, but as before dwarves weren't meant for flying, and it seems that his landing put him off balance enough that his swing goes wide, missing the kobold.

Just a little bit of flavour text... Also, I have a level 1 Camouflage feat but can't remember what it does. Does me being in the bushes/woods activate it?

Furgin watches silently as his arrow meets its target head on, feeling the creature instantly. He glances down to check his wound, the blood trickling down his side warm and sticky. Punching through the armour had taken most of the bite out of the spear's thrust but Furgin can definitely feel the wound throbbing. It's not the worst he had taken, but it hurt like hell and would likley leave a nasty scar if left unattended for too long.

"Avandra shields me today," the halfling breathes, casting his eyes upwards briefly to acknowledge his deity.

Baldur

"Trouble behind, Kriv. I've got your back." Seeing the threat behind, Baldur leaps from the cart to the boulders, gaining cover from the shaman's magic. "That's it, just get a little closer ..." he mutters.

Jumping off the cart and moving south 2 squares to the cover of the boulders and trees(move action : Athletics check 24). From there I will watch the cart and Staggering Note the kobold if I see him(standard action : 25 [crit] vs. Will). This should hopefully punt him from his mount and into the trees (crossing fingers action).

While Kriv would prefer to fight from atop his mount, it would be impossible to do so with Kalhar tied to the cart. Kriv dismounts the crodlu then seats his tratnyr on his shield, stabilizing it for the upcoming charge. Poised, Kriv dashes forth toward the nearest kobold to his front, roaring in a a glorious charge!

Move action to dismount. Minor for poised assault stance, standard for charge.
Attack 1d20+8=24 vs AC. Damage:1d8+1d6+5=13. I feel pretty confident in assuming that's a hit and a kill. M'right?

As he reaches his opponent Kriv thrusts forward with his tratnyr, putting the full momentum of his charge into the spear point deep into the kobold's gut. Impaling the lizard kin into the ground Kriv yells out in Draconic to the kobolds, "Test your mettle on me scoundrels! Let's see if you can stand up to a true warrior!" Kriv withdraws his weapon from his opponents flesh, ready to take on any takers.

The barbarian calls out as he leaps from the cart, his words infused with arcane energy. Birds scatter in the distance from their perches atop the trees, as the crack of thunder from Baldur?s voice can be heard throughout the surrounding fields and woodland. The sound of his voice pushes into the Kobold with considerable force, causing the creature to be pushed from atop its makeshift saddle. The Kobold lands, crashing through the remains of an old wooden fence.

As the Kobold is removed from the dire Badger?s back, the feral creatures eyes glow stronger. It rushes at Baldur, enraged and seemingly out of control. The creatures jaws gnash at Baldur, scoring a hit and drawing blood, the teeth finding an opening in his armour.

Another one of the Kobold?s leaps at Boindal, attempting to aid his ally, but his spear is met by Boindal?s shield. The Dwarven battlemind too managed to notice, and bring his heavy shield to defend his side just in time.

You now have partial cover due to the rocks. Your managed a bit of extra damage due to the creature falling from a mount.

Unfortunately, the Badger goes a bit mental without his controller. I rolled a 19. So close to a critical. 4 damage, still inured by one point of health from the fight earlier today.

Then Kobold rolled ok, but not high enough to hit Boindal.

Kriv is up next.

If you're within 5 squares of me can use a minor action to allow an adjacent ally to spend a healing surge and regain the additional hit points (1d6).

so if we are within 5 of you we can spend a minor action to allow someone else who is next to us to spend a healing surge?

Kriv?s challenge is met with a reply in Draconic, a shrill voice, as a armoured Kobold steps out from behind the rocks, ?You shall die here today, Derindahl will reward us for bringing him your head!?

The Kobold appears to be more heavily armoured than the ones currently engaged in battle. It stands slightly taller, is of bigger build and carries a short sword and shield. The shield looks huge against the small creature's body, and appears to be cast iron, shaped like the scale of a dragon.

The Kobold moves quickly to position himself in front of Kriv, and swings viciously at the knight. His blade scores a solid blow, finding an opening in Kriv?s heavy armour. Pain shoots through the Dragonborn?s body as he realises the wound is quite severe. This Kobold seems unusually confident while fighting alongside his allies, Kriv can only wonder would this Kobold be so bold to fight him in one on one combat.

Boindal hears a projectile fly past him and burry itself in the dirt behind him; it must have been a crossbow bolt or sling bullet. Dividing his attention momentarily between the close combat and the road ahead he narrows his eyes to determine the source of the shot, but cannot see the aggressor.

The final Kobold soldier joins the fray, banding across the road and leaping with a jab of his spear at the Dwarven battlemind. Once again Boindal proves too quick for his adversaries, his shield raising up and blocking the attack. The force of the attack against the shield causes the incoming spear to snap, scattering splinters of wood upon the dirt road.

Baldur, fending off the ferocious attacks of the Badger can see the Shaman get to his feet and brush himself off. Stepping to the side the Shaman takes aim once more, and hurls an orb of deadly lightning at the barbarian. The spell crashes into the boulders and never makes it anywhere near him.

To Kriv?s right, another heavier looking Kobold with a large shield runs from between the trees and the boulders. He brings his shield together with his ally to create a defensive line and then strikes out at the knight. However the sword slices through nothing but air.

Another spear comes at Boindal from the Kobold nearest to Eponas, but his thrust meets nothing but the warm summer?s evening air as the Dwarf deflects the blow and readies himself to do some damage.

Furgin takes aim at the two Kobold?s attacking Boindal from both directions. Two arrows swiftly launch from his bow and plant themselves in soft vulnerable parts of the creatures. The two Kobold?s look surprised at first, before going limp and dropping to the floor dead. Furgin?s peers out from his hiding place to look for the source of the projectile that narrowly missed his Dwarven ally, but to no avail. The Halfling takes a moment to slip down into the foliage, attempting to conceal himself.

Kriv took 7 damage from the first Kobold Dragonshield?s attack. The ranged attack from down the road missed Boindal narrowly, and then the charging Kobold rolled a 1 and snapped his spear.

Shaman misses Baldur, the second Shield dude joins the fray and misses Kriv and then another minion misses Boindal.

Still piloting Furgin with text/phonecall conversation with Finger_Tips, he is at a wedding somewhere in the uncivilised north of Britain. Twin shot,22, 25, two easy hits on the minions, killing them both. Perception check of 16 reveals nothing from where Furgin is sitting. Rolled low for stealth but your modifier and feat are mental, 24 for end stealth result. The Kobold?s obviously know what direction the shots came from, but they can?t actually see the Ranger.

Boindal is up next. Then Baldur.

Baldur

"I have no wish to fight you, noble badger. It is your master I seek." Baldur dodges around the badger and makes for the Shaman, unleashing his mad rage upon the lizard.

Activate Berserker's Fury (minor).
Move to a space to charge the Shaman (move; I get +2 to defences vs. opportunity attacks, remember.)
Charge said Shaman (standard, granting +2 to all defences til SoNT) 13 vs. AC, a likely miss but 10 dmg if it does hit.
ACTION POINT, then unleash a Slaying Song (standard). Got a 14, so adding Heroic Effort to make it 18 vs. AC, 13 damage and until the end of the encounter, whenever I hit an enemy, that enemy grants combat advantage to you and your allies until the end of your next turn.

Boindal

As the two kobolds near him slump forward with arrows sticking out of them Boindal smiles as he shouts above the combat, "Thanks for the assist there little friend!" Boindal takes a step forward and shouts at the two nearest kobolds, "Why not try yer hand fightin me ya scaly whelps!" Boindal focuses his mind to change the density of his hammer wielding arm to something more solid. As he swings his hammer the kobolds are distracted by the fact that the dwarf's arm looks almost like it is made out of metal. The lapse in concentration is enough to let the hammer slip past the guard of the not so heavily armoured kobold and it is struck in the face from the blow, dropping it to the ground. Boindal then looks directly at the armoured kobold, "and yer next!"

Right lot happening in my turn lol. First Move Action-5ft shift to put me next to kriv. Minor Action-Battlemind's Demand close burst 3, targeting the armoured kobold next to the minion kobold, effect: he is marked until I use this power again or until the end of the encounter. Standard Action-Iron Fist against the minion kobold, 22 vs AC (I assume that hits due to Furgin's 22 hitting) and it does 14 damage (again I assume it is a minion and that kills it) and until the end of my next turn I gain resistance to all damage equal to my Wis mod of +4. That is the end of my turn! Man it's hard work being a tank lol

Boindal steps up to aid Kriv with his attackers. His bellowing challenge draws the attention of the shield-bearer just in time for the armoured creature to see the Dwarf's iron like fist bring a hammer down upon his ally?s head. A satisfying crunch comes from under the hammer?s head as the kobold?s face is crushed, the creature killed instantly.

As Baldur slips past the Dire Badger, its lashes out at him, a furious attack of claws and teeth. But Baldur moves past unscathed and charges towards the Kobold Shaman. His blade swings, but misses. Singing out incomprehensible lyrics, Baldur slashes and thrusts at the Kobold again, this time his blade meeting with the creatures leather armour, animal bone and flesh. The wound cuts very deep, spilling viscous blood upon the grass beneath the combatants feet. The Kobold Shaman looks physically weak, possibly on his last legs.

The Dire Badger, furiously turns and charges Baldur. The Barbarian pulls his blade from the bleeding Kobold and turns to the badger in time to duck and dodge the slashing claws.

Boindal scores! Another dead minion.

Baldur is missed by the Badger, charges, and misses with the first attack yet scores with the daily. That Shaman is firmly bloodied and almost dead. Good work.

Then the Badger charges, and misses again. Stupid Badger!

I also need to be more consistent with my capitalisation of creature/race names. Stupid DM!

Kriv is up next. Then some Kobold's, Furgin and then Boindal again. You guys are clearing up nicely.

I have removed the dead Kobold?s from the list now, to make it less cluttered.

Seeing the Kobold's combined defence, Kriv changes his fighting stance, achieving very solid footing to transfer more force into his blows. He then lashes out at the unmarked kobold, attempting to separate them from each other.

"We have them on the ropes now! Move for the killing blows and watch their swords, they have a nasty bite!" Kriv's voice emanates his noble confidence and fighting spirit, motivating Boindal and Furgin and improving their resilience.

Minor action to take on Hammer Hands fighting stance. Standard action for melee basic attack against the northern most Kobold, 1d20+6=15. Seems iffy that'll hit but if it does I deal 1d8+1d6+5=18 and activate power strike for an additional 1d8=8 damage totaling 26. I also move the target one square east and pass on my allowed shift. Did amazing on the damage rolls, wish my attack was a bit higher, doubt it'll actually connect :\...

Move action for Noble Presence, Boindal and Furgin may both immediately shift two squares and gain +2 to all defences until the EoMNT.
