We DON'T NEED another system. Last I heard is that there won't be any difference in capabilities in comparison of this generation to the last meaning little to NO upgrades. Not much reason to invest in a new system if they aren't going to enhance it's capabilities. This is the reason that sony is holding off. What we NEED in the video game industry is the following CHEAPER GAMES , NEW INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY , and lastly REMOVAL / DISCONTINUATION OF D . R . M as well as D . L . C since the industry doesn't know how to handle either.

So if they're going for x86 it's gonna be 64bit.
Yeah but just because this prototype is x86 doesn't mean the eventual retail model will be. Until final production specs are locked in, it only makes sense to use an overpowered x86_64 machine for your devkit and have it emulate (hence the 'overpowered' requirement) your proposed console.

I really can't see Microsoft switching back to CISC based architecture processors... it would leave their consoles far too open to 3rd parties doing their own thing with them.

If Microsoft were smart they would base their new console off the Windows 8 kernel so it can be cross intergrated across platform (PC , nextbox , surface tablets and Win mobile )

Then you have two markets they are tapping into by being able to sell and distribute their games cross platform.
Only downside I guess is that MS would undoubtedly want you to have a XBL gold account that you have to pay for in order to use the PC side of things.

They are not smart though so its likely that they will continue to deny the existence of PCs gaming market.

And if the hardware specs are accurate then it looks like we are in for another generation of the Microsoft console being the one that is the weakest in terms of its hardware which in turn leads it to being the one holding development back. Likely more so than this gen as from the PS4's specs that were released yesterday it looks like the gap will be bigger between the consoles hardware wise.
