PC, I never have a loading time that is over 20 seconds.
Are there even PC games with load times that long? I don't remember any game in the last 2 years have one longer than 5 secs, unless you count total war when all the AI's take their turn.
Skyrim maxed out, with lots of lovely mods, sometimes pushes it. But genuinely, I have a game on steam, I browse.
Solid. State. Drive.

I didn't know that Skyrim had movable objects in its loading screens till i saw it on a friend's.. Lower spec. PC.
Yeah me either, till I saw it on my brothers PS3... But no, I won't touch SSDs.. I've seen first hand the crap they can cause when they go awry, maybe in another 10 years.
? The tech has hugely improved since launch. Whatever floats your boat.
Can you post some game benchmark comparisons for SSD's and regular 10k RPM hard drives? I cannot find any that I understand.

For console games, my tv has the option of bringing up a small window on the screen that can display what's happening on another channel without the audio. Since you can switch between the channel on the small window and the channel on the overall screen, I can easily watch tv while waiting on a loading screen and switch back as soon as it's done with the press of a button.

On my PC I just hit Start+D to return to the desktop and bring up my browser to look at por- interesting wikipedia articles.

The loading screens I've been getting in my gaming life lately have been the worst. The suspense of becoming a new zombie is terrifying >.>.

Sorry for The weird link but My iPad Will not give me a url from youtube

Anyway I would recommend that you watch benchnarks that shows speed on write/read and access time on ssd and 10k rpm hdds since pretty much nobody does game load times test.

Comparison:

Corsair F60 SSD (60GB)

and

Samsung Spinpoint F4 2TB drive

SKYRIM:

When Skyrim was on the Hard Drive, Loading screen was approx 15 seconds

on the same processor, the SSD handled the load screen in approx 4 seconds

DE:HR

Load Screen (Pre Week 1 patch) (I finished it pretty fast) (also I'm adam jensen on twitter, come say hi)

HDD: 30s+ loading screen

SSD: 10s loading screen

The benefits are immense. I use SteamMover to hotswap games I'm currently playing onto my SSD, along with my OS boot disk. When I finish with them, they go back to the other hard drive.

And it's also why I've only got a 60GB SSD.

:)

Well, the longest load time I experience is with Rome: Total War, but that's because I mostly play mods that push the engine to its limits. Even then, I mostly just look at the nice artwork on the load screen or something similar really.

Always him? That can't be true! My dog is always the good boy!

OT: If my dog is sitting in my lap like he sometime does, I'll talk to him. Otherwise, I often play video games with music or videos on, so likely that

Well, just check the Twitters usually. It's great!

While waiting for a game of Battlefield 3 to load on my PS3, I had an argument with David Arnold (composer of the Bond films and Sherlock) about which is better, milk chocolate, or dark chocolate.

Captcha: face the music
How did it know what I was doing?!

But that is only a 5400 RPM hard drive if i'm correct. I have a 10k SATA 6 and am wondering how those compare. Anecdotal evidence is fine with me, because now that i remember; BF3 does have some insane 20-30 sec load times with my HD.

Edit: not sure why there are double quotes, but w/e!

I either start blaring the Rolling Stones or I try to make a small dent in 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea by Jules Verne or A Farewell to Arms by Ernest Hemingway.

There seems to be an outbreak [http://www.theonion.com/articles/nations-dog-owners-demand-to-know-whos-a-good-boy,181/] of dogs being good boys, dating all the way back to the year 2000. Maybe I should double-check.

Heyyy, Bear! Whoseagoodboy??? You are? Yes! You'resuchagoodboyyy!!

Yep. Must be something in the food...

When I was playing X3: Reunion around 10+ hours a day I would sometimes get up to go get some food, or go to the bathroom, or wander around the house to stretch my legs while the game was loading between gates.

I used to do this until one day I got up to make a sandwich for lunch and it took a bit longer than it should have and the next system loaded and left me in front of the gate and a massive TL station carrier ran my tiny little scout ship over killing me with barely even a love tap. After that I would wait for the loading zones to finish and get away from the gates before I went and made a sandwich.

Now since I don't really play any games that have those kinds of massively long loading times I usually just sit and wait, maybe fiddle with things on my desk because it always seems to be cluttered with half finished projects and just general crap.
