Dust 514 - should I get a PS3? Also, games for 5 year old?

Maybe some classics? Super Mario Brothers, and things of that nature.

Okay, maybe I completely missed something. Since when was Super Mario Brothers on the Playstation?

That is true, my only reason why I thought I had missed something is that someone else mentioned Super Smash Bros. so I was thinking I had legitemately thought something had happened that I totally missed for the PS3, sorry if I seemed a little sarcastic.

And as for them having flash based Super Mario Brothers, they will never be able to make a flash of the best one they made, and that is Super Mario 64. Any true gamer should know this, even if you don't have it, you had to have played it at least once. At least for modern gamers at any rate. I myself am a Sony fanboy, and find the Mario series to be a dead horse beaten over the head far too many times, but Super Mario 64 was the shit, and no one can dispute that.

But yes you got plenty of cheerful games for the kiddies, LBP, Flow, Flower, Journey, Super Smash Brothers, Ratchet & Clank games, ... and everything for Move.

That's a nice list of games. I've always wondered what Journey was. Not sure Move is something I'll get though, I had an Xbox 360 and a Kinect about a year ago and she wasn't that interested in the Kinect part at all. Also, there were way too few games for her to play on the 360.

As for Dust...I've never been fond of online FPS, but if you are, it's rather good.

I don't know what games you like, but there are plenty of good exclusives for you, such as God of War and Infamous, and you can buy the remastered versions of the Jak and Daxter series and team Ico's stuff if you never had it before, and the PS1 classic section is a great place, you can find games for you and your kid to play like the Crash and Spyro games, or get games like the Legacy of Kain games or perhaps some Final Fantasy if that's more your style. There is a lot to choose from in terms of great games, and surely you'll find something for yourself.

I'll look into Infamous a bit, I love being the bad guy with super powers! That was Infamous (and Prototype, but already have those for PC), right?

I remember Crash, Spyro and Legacy of Kain! I loved the Legacy of Kain series and hoping for a (good) reboot of the series. Crash and Spyro could work for the kid though. Thanks!

I got my hands on the Dust 514 beta. It needs work. In my opinion, it felt messy and cluttered, and I didn't really have any idea what I was doing half of the time. Don't get me wrong, they give you a whole lot of options for making your character truly unique, but for me, it was overwhelming. I also found that it was far too easy for one team to ensure TOTAL dominance on the battlefield (I've been on both sides of that now, and it's not fun). The interface needs work as well. I could not, for the life of me, understand the on-screen text, and I have perfect vision and a good TV. Finally, right now, it's frigging ugly. The texture and look of everything is REALLY bad, and I noticed it immediately. The game showed the dark side of cell shading.
In short: more work is required and you shouldn't get a PS3 just for this one.

I understand that Dust 514 need quite some polish, after all it's still in closed beta. I'm not too worried about the overwhelming from all the customization options etc. since I'm a long-time EVE player. I'm sure EVE is a lot worse when it comes to that.

Sounds like you're hating a lot on the game, perhaps it's not as cool as I wanted to think. I'll try to look into it a bit more, thanks!

Burnout Paradise is fun for all ages. Get the Paradise Island DLC - my niece just loves the ski jump there.

And yea, Dust 514 is pretty low on features atm plus there's definite server stability issues, it being a beta and all. I'm holding judgement until there's a finished product to judge.

Well I believe on August 21st with the Precursor update should remedy the low features.
