Update:

Having a little trouble with the console. When I start a game it will briefly show the 'licensed by Nintendo' or similar screen & play a little of the intro music, but will go no further after that. When trying to play A Link to the Past, black bars in a criss-cross pattern obscure portions of the Triforce which fly in.

The video cable is good (works fine for my GC) and the unit is getting power.

Any idea on what is wrong? Know of any good online resources for asking/answering this sort of question?

Thanks.

You're already set dude, Mario, Zelda, and Street Fighter.

Super Mario World is what 15 years old, my friend has yet to beat it himself I took down Bowser but he spent 15ish years doing the leg work to get to that point.

So yeah you;re set on games no need to drop a dime on it.

You sure you have the TV on the right channel? Somewhere on the cable link up there is a switch one says side has a 3 the other has a 4 that's what channel it's set to work on, it'll still partially come in on the other channel. I had the same problem when I hooked mine back up, even had the same game in and the same exact thing happened.

I'm not using the RF switch, I'm using the multi out. It goes to its own input on the TV. As I mentioned, I can see the games first screen, but its sometime garbled and I can go no further.

7th Saga. Its a *****-slap of an RPG, and it hates the player, but its a solid RPG.

As for games, I recommend:
Strike Gunner S.T.G.
I love Strike Gunner, took me so many tries to complete it, I had memorised most of the game by then ^^;. There was one special weapon, I can't remember what it's called now, but it made a huge white beam go up the screen from your ship, and it made THE most satisfying sound in that game. Might've been photon cannon, not sure.

Here's my list:
- Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers: The Fighting Edition (this is a surprisingly solid fighting game, and doesn't try to be some SF2 knockoff. This game's system was ripped out to be made into the Japan-only Gundam Wing: Endless Duel)
- Spawn (A pretty cool side-scrolling fighter)
- Star Fox (It's Star Fox)
- Pilotwings (great "sit back and relax" game. You just spend your time doing things like flying a plane and skydiving.)

Edit: Not really sure how to help with the screen issue, sad to say. MAybe try the traditional RF Switch?

Last time I checked Earthbound wasn't too bad of a price on ebay, but last time I checked MIGHT have been ten years ago SOOO.

I'll give you some of my faves that might be less likely to be named by everyone else.

Illusion of Gaia. Classic, classic action adventure a la Zelda

Lufia 2: Rise of The Sinistrals. Might be a tough find. Great rpg with some fantastic, fantastic puzzle solving.

Donkey Kong Country 2. Don't listen to the haters, the series wasn't all style and no substance. This game in particular is the highpoint to the series.

Zombies Ate My Neighbors. Classic action game. You run around shooting zombies and aliens and vampires and giant fucking babies. It's also co-op, and super hard. So if that flips your switch...

Mario World! Castlevania 4! Super metroid! Earthbound! (Seriously, find yoself a copy).

That would be the appropriately named Megabeam Cannon, good sir. I hope I wasn't the only one who yelled "KAMEHAMEHA!!1!" whenever I fired it.

Hell, I even remember the order I picked all of my weapons in:
Stage 1 - Comrade Fighter
Stage 2 - Heavy Vulcan
Stage 3 - Autoaim Vulcan
Stage 4 - Homing Missile
Stage 5 - Atomic Missile
Stage 6 - Laser Cannon
Stage 7 - Megabeam Cannon
Stage 8 - Plasma Shield
