This isn't just theft; it's riot looting. It's violent as hell and taking up arms to protect oneself is valid when a bunch of angry rioters fuck up your shop and threaten you.

1 - they're not threatening you as a person, they're after money
2- looting is the same act as stealing, just more openly

So a simple yes or no will do: Does losing a few pennies in goods warrant murdering another human being?

Rioters are not after money specifically; their purpose is to vent anger by violent and illegal means. During the 1992 LA riots, which EIPatron was referring to, 50 or so people died and 2000 were injured; the reason the Korean storekeepers were taking up arms was that they were under threat of death or serious injury because rioters are venting anger via violent acts.

Your question ignores the reality that rioters beat the shit out of you, then take your stuff. Not to mention that not all guns shots are fatal and are more likely to wound then kill, assuming the store keepers can actually hit anything.

That's to be expected in a society stuffed with guns and a violent culture where murder is considered justifyable.

Newsflash, rioters are not usually armed, specially in the communist state of California. But nice Red Herrings there.

If you consider self-defense "murder" then maybe you should stop being a bleeding heart. Specially when the Netherlands if the country where if a man enters your house with an axe and you kill him, you have to prove it was self-defense even if your walls and doors are completely busted with axe cuts.

In closure, thanks for misunderstanding a country with almost 10km^2 of area and 50 states with totally different laws - further proving you're just like the people the OP was complaining about.
