"Grinheim, i have already told you this two times. If we began to dig the gold veins underneath our mountains the nobles would find us and destroy us for what we would posses." Gragon sighed, looking beneath his cloak for the precious gold that had been found two weeks ago.

Repairs had been going better than planned, and they now had friendship with the Bold Steel clan. Now all that needed to be done was put up two arrow towers on the southern side of the fort so no one could surprise the Iron Fists. Also, a new clan hall needed to be built so the dwarves would not have to sleep under tents anymore, but to do this they would need solid stone not wood.

"Didoof, ask the others to build arrow towers to the south, and have the others begin mining stone from the mountain. It is about time we had a warm place to sit in the evenings."

"I am (Insert character name here) and I am the leader of the Stone Dogs, we have come to trade for Cold Rocks Hold. I am honored to meet you and as I said I, and my fellow dwarfs, are here to set up trade with the great settlement of Hammerfell, we have several fine wares to offer, the most prominent being good quality granite, tin, copper and bronze. But we will soon, with some work, have access to meat, skins, fish and, if you wish, live animals that you, most likely, haven't seen before." I say showing the wares as I introduce them. "At the moment what we need is some better equipment, some work animals, preferably some that can work underground, and other crops."

I will press hard but not to hard about 7/10 and as a trick to get a good trade simply show respect and show that it is logical for our two settlements to trade and hopefully in time become friends. I would also like to speak to the mayor about which other clans have left the Mountain Home and if he knows where they have set themselves up, and put up signs offering anyone who is willing to work and wants adventure a place at Cold Rocks Hold, and listing that we need someone to train a militia and a good blacksmith. Also ask around town to see if anyone knows anything else, and if there are any private trading companies in the town in which to also set up trade.

a quick note, I planed on working the ducts into the floor as to make it easer to make. but apart from that continue with the previous tasks, expanding the trapping area and refining the plans for the "training room". also keep an eye on the crops. as for the well I was hoping to send all the ducted water into the well, that or dig all the way to the water table.

I am terribly, terribly sorry for the delay. Real life once again intruded.

The two archery towers at the southern part, hugging the old wall, are quickly constructed. They are but simple raised platforms with stepladders to them, protected by a thin wall of wood and a roof of thatch.

The diggers you sent to the mountain cliff make short work of the outermost, somewhat red, siltstone layer. But as they dig the beginnings of a mine tunnel, they hit upon another layer. Dacite. It seems there has been an active volcano somewhere nearby, as your dwarves know only way for dacite stone to form: magma reaching the surface and cooling down. While not quite as hard as granite, it is compensated by being a tad lighter. It has no uniform colour, but is greyish with black grains.

You do find that gabbro and dacite side by side create quite an aesthetically pleasing combination ; the prevalent black with a hint of red in the gabbro, counterbalanced by the lighter coloured but black grained dacite.

It is however somewhat resistant to your picks, meaning that mining it is just as hard work as mining gabbro from your depleted metal mines. But every dwarf knows of the stories told of veritable treasures hiding in magma-born rocks, not to mention the fabled glass furnaces of Grande Hall: if there actually exists a source of magma to tap into and you manage to find magma-safe building materials, you might be able to construct furnaces powered by it. High up to the north, on the eastern side of the great mountain range, the dwarves of Grande Hall hit upon a river of it, now they are making fortunes by making superior glass products to everyone willing to pay. And all they need do is shovel sand, and man the furnaces.

As usual, pangs of jealousy course trough every dwarf thinking these thoughts. In a way, finding magma would be worth more than finding gold and then your clan could-

Imagination, meet reality. The Nobles. Once again, you curse the madness that seems to have overtaken the leaders of Mountainhome. Perhaps, after you?ve constructed sufficient defences or the situation stabilizes, you could safely become such an economic might without having overwhelming resentment directed towards you.

As you begin to design the clan hall, a thought comes to you. Sure, the clan hall if built outside would be a symbol and as grand a sight as you wish to make it, but underground it would be protected from the weather, building the walls and thus the roof easier, and the inside could be just as decorative as one above ground. And nothing makes the heart of a dwarf sing like the feeling of tons of stone and layers of ground above his head, with the very bones of earth rising to meet him. Also, above the ground you?d have to knock down a couple of buildings more, as completely rebuild the foundations to match your designs, not to mention make them sturdy and reinforced to withstand the weight of a building made fully of stone. But such a building could, with work and time, be made into a magnificent monument to your clan and of walls stronger than a siege rampart.

Ahh, decisions, decision.

A hunting party, gone out to the woods just outside your walls, returns with another few animals; enough to keep meat in the daily meals without dipping into your stores. They say the wolf packs of the area are getting bolder. They doubt hunger is the cause, the woods are as plentiful in wildlife as ever. But something seems to be agitating them, making the wolves act more aggressively, almost heedless of the danger they should be now know your dwarves represent.

You get to name your own dwarves. If I must name every one of the 39 dwarves in all the clans + all the dwarves you meet, I?ll have created a ?popular names for your child? compendium for dwarves within this game world ? I have no intention of going quite that far. That is part of the reason I haven?t named everyone.

OT: When you tell the rough location of Cold Rocks hold, interest in the granite seems to vane. It is a good quality stone you brought, but the distances involved would make trading for just granite needlessly difficult. After all, there are sources of good stone nearer.
It is the bronze that seems to attract most attention and you can see the Broker is interested at well. Iron (and steel) and well and good for weapons and armor, but in everyday items and some luxury ones, dwarves tend to favour less expensive and more colourful materials. Steel is after all, quite dull to the eyes.

The Broker is not too pleased with your somewhat aggressive bartering, seeing you as a bit impudent considering the size and importance (or rather, lack of them) of your clan. She does concede that trading partners are rarely a disadvantage.

She does demand a show of proof for your ability to benefit Hammerfell in long term before any permanent agreements can be made: A caravan representing Hammerfell will be sent to Cold Rocks Hold at the end of next spring, and if individuals or clans wish to send their own they may do so at any time. You must, before the year is over, trade to Hammerfell 70 bars of bronze, or at least 30 bars in combination with other items, to a total of equal worth. Any trade after you leave, traded via the official caravan or by independent ones, counts towards this total.

Naturally, the degree heavily favours Hammerfell: the Broker has places you into a proverbial stranglehold. While tradition and honour demands your goods be appropriately valued, you are essentially forced to trade your goods away. And if few caravans arrive, the official one may dictate prices quite freely if you have not traded enough by that point, for if you do not sell at the prices they demand, you might not get a permanent agreement. And unless you become an officially recognized trading partner, the individual clans at Hammerfell will be reluctant to send their caravans.

But, with a long-term deal, you?d receive at least two caravans a year and with them would come a representative of Hammerfell to visit you. And trough them, you?d have access to information, rumours and be able to present your own wishes and needs in regards to trading. The agreement would also greatly simplify the inter-clan politics and rules governing trade by individuals or non-ruling clans of either side. It would also be a precedent for other settlements: the acceptance of Hammerfell would indicate that you are a reliable trading partner.

As you expected, the negotiations were though and lasted several days, and now you can either agree to the deal as presented by the Broker, or forgo it.

A pair of brothers, Dunmar and Dwer of clan Macgragge seek permission to join you. They are young, only in their 30s, and find Hammerfell to be too predictable and safe for them. They already have permission from their clan to join you and declare Stone Dogs the ?minor? clan-name. That would mean that their loyalty would belong to clan Macgragge first (but not Hammerfell), Stone Dogs second, and Cold Rocks Hold third. Should they stay and father children at Cold Rocks Hold, the children would traditionally and lawfully by default be members of the Stone Dogs with no allegiance anywhere else. Along would come the elder brother?s (Dunmar) equally young wife, Vetter. The borthers have no particular specialities, but Vetter does say she has worked the loom for some time, and knows how to handle both plant- and animal based threads (such a pig-tail, or spiders silk) in weaving proper cloth.

An elderly dwarf has also approached you. He is old, and has retired from all but clan politics, but has found inaction to not suit him too much. He is a veteran shield-dwarf, and claims to have defended Hammerfell for over five decades, and having held the post equivalent to a squad leader. He can?t fight full-day anymore, he is too weak and frail for that, but the experience and knowledge he can offer you and promises that he can create a militia worthy of being called full-time solders. He does have demands: a spacious and furnished room of his own, three meals a day, and to be treated as if he were a full member of your clan in all matters, for as long as he stays alive, with no other obligations to him beyond training a competent militia for you.

You are a bit unsure of what to make of him, as he seems to have taken some measures to be the only dwarf to offer militia training services to you. Nothing violent, or obtusely forceful, but he does have words with every potential candidate that seems somewhat interested, whereupon the candidates usually suddenly head somewhere else entirely.

No one else has talked with you in regards to joining you, but there has been talk of trade. The samples you brought with you, specially the tin and bronze, have seen interest. You?ve received several offers, and you judge them all to be of good value:

A pair of healthy, young dogs for the bar of tin. One dog is male, one female.
Another offers for the tin, an adult mule that seems to be in good health.
Third offers for that, and the bar of copper, a set of surplus (to her that is) and somewhat worn iron tools to equip a decent sized butchery.

For the bar of copper you are offered two sacks of seeds: one is pig-tail, one is cave wheat.
Another offer would give you a set of mechanical plans for a watermill. You are in no position to judge the efficiency of the plans, but it does seem a functional installation and from your memory, the river flows rapidly enough to be of use. A watermill might produce enough power to turn a millstone or two. Of course, without an engineer and an architect, the construction isn?t likely to be as simple as just following the plans, not to mention to construct the power axle from the watermill to whatever you wish turned or powered.

For the bar of bronze you had many offers, but three top them all.
First one is three sacks of seeds. One is cave wheat, one is elven Longland Grass that must be farmed aboveground (can be processed into flour and beer), and one is filled with Plump Helmet mushroom spawns. Each sack is enough to cover a fairly large farm plot.
Another offer for the bronze is a pair of brand new copper picks.
The last one is a pair of donkeys, and a small sack of the elven Longland Grass.

For the granite slab and all bars of metal: two fine steel picks, and a set of leather armor.
For the granite alone, the set of leather armor, or alternatively three small iron daggers.

For the small diamonds you had with you, you are offered two bronze-leather helmets, or a well-constructed bronze crossbow.

On the rumour front, mayor himself is too busy to see you. You do however hear that the clans Blood Helmets and Bold Steel for certain have been exiled from Mountainhome, and the clans Hammer Steel and the Outcasts have either left, or been exiled. No one seems to know for sure where they are, but they all headed westwards, with Bold Steel going for a more northerly route and Blood Helmets apparently heading towards the marshes of the south. Of the Hammer Steel and the Outcasts, the tracks seemed to enter the arid plains proper.

So, what offers do you accept and do you agree to the deal/demand made by the Broker?

Sorry, but that'll be all at the moment. More to come in a couple of days. For now, I'll get to unwinding for a work week from hell, and into the mood for Midsummer festival.

This pretty much sums up my plans for the next two days, before regretfully I'll have to prep for the next week at work.:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Midsummer#Finland

"Many Finns leave the cities for Midsummer and spend their holiday in the countryside. Rituals include bonfires, sauna and spending time together. Heavy drinking is also associated with the Finnish midsummer.

Many music festivals of all sizes are organized on the Midsummer weekend."

"Grimhein... I have come to the decision that building the clan hall in the village is a very bad idea. Instead, i would like it to be built up into the mountainside, with a narrow stone staircase leading up to it. This way it is nearly unreachable to all but foot soldiers and the beasts of the sky." Gragon said, laying down new plans for a clan hall. They were standing outside in the crisp morning air and the other dwarves were just finishing their breakfast of berries and a few slices of meat.

"Didoof announced to me that something is happening to the Wolves in the woods. They seem to be more restless, and i want to know whats going on. I would ask for a volunteer group of dwarves to go and investigate but i cant afford that now. We need all our men here, just make sure we add extra patrols during the evening hours. Now go get to work Grimhein." Gragon announced, sending Grimhein away to carry out the tasks he had ordered to be done.

The sun had just risen and now the Iron Fists were just heading off to their different tasks. Five of the dwarves went up into the mountains, to start carving out an area for the clan hall, and the others went down into the mines to continue mining for ores. Some were left to hunt and patrol the walls, and Gragon went up to supervise the construction of the clan hall.

Group Name: Ironbrow

Settlement name: Hillfort

Description of area: Hillfort is north of the ironbrow's old home mountainhome at the base of the ancient hillside. Huge rocks are literally everywhere, and seems like a perfect place to get started with the fortress.

Group history:The Ironbrow Clan was never really noted for anything except there skills in masonry. A second note of mention would be mining, but were still far better in masonry. They built a lot of the buildings in mountainhome and were respected for a while, but when the nobles turned on the community, they decided it was time to leave and start over somewhere else.

Fields of talent: Masonry;Mining

Special item and it's description: a secret recipe to a extremely strong mortar.passed down from generation to generation of ironbrow's, it is a big secret to why there buildings are so strong

Hope you have fun. :)

- Accept the trade agreement
- Accept the two young men and the wife
- Accept the elderly trainer and tell him that he may bring an assistant or such to help with the training
- Accept the dogs for the tin
- Accept the plans for the watermill, after having a third party check them
- Accept the sack of Elvenland grass and the donkeys for the bronze
- Ask the woman selling the iron tools if she will trade some of her tools for the granite slab instead of the metals and if not take the leather armour
- Accept the crossbow for the diamonds
- Aquire a map of the known world, or local area if the known world proves to difficult, that we can later add to
- Ask around the local blacksmiths to inquire whether or not one of them might be persuaded to join us
- Visit the Stronginthearm clan and tell them about the altar and that on our way back we intend to demolish it and advise them that the area seemed to be a seasonal camp and that they may want to check that area every now and again. Also tell them that if any of their clan are passing through the area near Cold Rocks Hold that they will find hospitality and shelter with the Stone Dogs.

Yeah, sorry guys for it being so long.

I won't be insulting you with various excuses, I'll just put to words what is already a reality: This RP will be on hiatus for a while. There are real-life reasons as to why, and to me they are good reason. Suffice to say, I'm fine, everyone I know is fine, I'm simply short on free time and energy to do anything during that free time (except sleep).

If you are still interested in this RP after a few weeks, we'll continue then.

Agreed, I believe we either need to move this rp along... or find another GM until SakSak returns. I do not mean to sound disrespectful with this post by any means.

Haha, I'm a fast typer... True enough, maybe someone should rp him just in-case he doesn't have this bookmarked.
