There's a Dynasty Warriors 7 coming out.....*drouls*

i love this series so much, DW3 and it's expansions were awesome, went up to 5th level weapons at one point (or was that 4?) I thought they had abandonded the main series for the online game, so glad im wrong

Overall they have the basics of a GREAT game, but repeatedly botch it, making OK games which are infinitely frustrating considering what might have been.

The basic concept of rampaging around a massive battlefield with an overpowered superhuman wiping out hundreds of enemy underlings is stupid fun for a little bit. Addictive personalities can be hooked with unlocking new characters and outfits and upgrades galore.

But taking a step back the whole franchise is a portrait of abject failure when you consider what it could have been. A better set-up explaining what was going on in a more accessible manner. Better context and information of what was going on in the battle. Maybe having real consequences to your actions, or fewer random nonsensical surprises that would change the course of a battle. Adding some level of skill rather than grinding stat upgrades over and over. And most importantly painting the overall picture of how history could have played out given the outcomes of your actions. That would have been great. Instead what you get is fun for short periods, a chore to grind out if you're a completionist, and disappointing in the end.

I dunno... I had my best time in the DW series with DW5. It was the best graphically, had the most robust roster and when you leveled characters to a certain point, you could pick their DW3 outfits! I'm still trying to figure out what the fuck they did to Gan Ning in DW6...
It had more characters and was prettier, but it was easier and seemed empty (for want of a betetr word) by comparison.

I didn't hate it by any stretch, but it still didn't grip me like DW3 did. And it's largely possible that came from DW3 being my first Warriors title, but so far the SW series has unseated it overall.

Just my opinion though, and I know it's probably fanboyism. ;)

I adored them. Dynasty Warriors 4 for the PS2 was my experience and I loved it.

Anyone tried the demo to their new Fist of the North Star game? It's fuckin' awesome if you like this kinda stuff.

I don't really care about the KOEI Warriors series, but they get me with Nobunaga's Ambition and Romance of the Three Kingdoms.

What kills the suspension of disbelief for me is to see my character maul through hundreds of foot soldiers in total impunity, when I should be attacked from all sides but they all dangle back and forth around me without attack, waiting their turn to get wasted.

Any advice which one I should pick for the 360? I have the second Gundam game, being a gundamnut and all, although it's no where near what a Gundam game be should, it still is a lot of fun.

ah, i had heard this argument before, that they're kind of like madden, minimal changes each year, same repetitive game. thats why i didnt buy any game and just waited until the series ended so i can buy the last game. but then 6 empires came out with its tantalizingly easy trophies, so i got that. its pretty fun, but i got bored after only 3 scenarios! i guess im done with the series. i'll get that platinum some day.
You realize this franchise is about a decade old and there's 20+ games in it.

Your never going to see a platinum edition.

platinum, meaning platinum trophy. sorry that wasnt clear. i figured since i mentioned trophies a few sentences early it was pretty straightforward, but i see now i was mistaken.

I've always enjoyed the series. The first one I played was DW2 on the PS2. That was some time ago, and a rental. However I was given DW3, and it has been my favourite one in the series.

The fifth one was alright too. I never liked the formula for the fourth one. I never actually completely leveled up a weapon. The duels worked, except against Lu Bu. But over all, the character creator was the best part of the game.

I haven't purchased DW6 because it resurrected the weapon levels, and people made it sound as if there were more move clones than ever.

I've also tried the Gundam series and enjoyed it. Never tried Samurai Warriors.

I'd highly recommend trying one of the Warriors Orochi games.

2's probably better than one, and with the minimal story, you're not going to be lost.

I didn't like DWG that much. It didn't feel Gundam-y enough or Musou-y enough. And since a good chunk of the moveset relied on shooting, the controls felt wrong for a Gundam game anyway.

Warriors Orochi and 2 are turbocharged and over the top without going completely insane.

Pretty much bought a PS2 to play Dynasty Warriors 3. Wore out 2 or 3 controllers on that game. Invited friends over for co-op play to get the really tough unlocks. Had a tonne of fun.

And, they keep making new ones because people keep buying them. I haven't bought one in about 8 years, but there still seems to be market for the epic battlefield beat-em-up.

Hey man, if you like it, play it. If you're done with the series, say thank you, exit gracefully, and don't say "I'll NEVER play that again!"

SW3 is FANTASTIC, btw. My only complaint is the campaigns are all only 5 missions long and lack the branching depth of Samurai Warriors 1. But there are like 30 characters, so.

I love that Warriors games so much! Even though they hate me, what with their rubbish sequels and spin-offs and the many many instances of "I'll just finish this general off and move to the next base....OH GOD HE KILLED ME IN THREE HITS WHY IS THIS HAPPENING STUNLOCK IS BAD /RAGEQUIT"

Still, I heart this game. I've only ever actually legitimately purchased the latest one, Strikeforce. It stirs mixed feelings in me for sure. I mean on the one hand, individual little area zones really kinda killed the epic feel the battles had to them. On the other hand, online co-op, hell yes.

In fact, I need to bust out me some DW:SF, since I came nowhere close to being a completionist whore on this game. Hit me up if you want to play on xbl peoples, same gamertag as my forum name. Just be sure to mention Escapist and DW:SF in the invite or I'll prolly lolwatdelete the random request >.>

I love the games. I started by playing two on a friend's ps2 (Guan Yu was my favourite, and that was where my hatred for Xu Zhu began), then he got 3 and I enjoyed playing as and slaughtering elephants, then we moved away and, since I had a gamecube, I couldn't play them. I finally got back into Dynasty warriors after all this time when I randomly picked up 6:E, and adored it. I then went back to 6, loved the story mode aspect but still preferred Empires, then got the Gundam ones, didn't really like 1 and traded it back, finally started playing 2 after ages and LOVED it, and I'm still playing that one at the moment. I also tracked down a copy of Bladestorm and am playing that, but I'm English and thus am locked in a stalemate with the storyline, which wants me to play as the French. I also run Dynasty Warriors Online (Open Beta) on my dual-booted Mac, and it is coming together very nicely. I'm looking forward to 7- if the trailer's anything to go by, it's gonna be epic. Also Gundam 3. In both, add the story modes (and add more characters to it), and keep the 6:E and G2 mission/conquest gameplay.

These games keep getting made because they keep selling. Pure and simple. Sure, they´re essencialy the same, but they´re fun nonetheless.

Best part of any Dynasty Warrior game is when Lu-Bu comes to the field of battle and things start getting intresting. I remember playing a epic two player battle with my buddy on Dynasty Warriors 4 and we was doing so good then Lu-Bu came out of nowhere and messed everything up for us, but we still had a good laugh about it.

Good Times indeed.
