I have a smoke allergy, so while I don't overall have an opinion on whether it's good or bad, less people making it impossible for me to breathe makes me happy.

It's good that is exists, as an alternative. It's certainly got its uses, and I can't for the life of me see how the thing being available is a problem.
Personally, I prefer the proper things. The feeling of smoking is just as important as the nic-o-time for me. I'd miss the crackle of the paper and the smoke trails. It might come in handy for emergencies, but I'd much rather wait until I can smoke a proper one later.

I'm not really a heavy smoker, at the absolute worst I was up to a pack a week. These days I smoke 2 maybe 3 packs a year.
I bought an e-cig starter kit and a box of cartridges a few months ago and I pretty much smoked non-stop. If I was at my computer, drawing, painting, watching TV, or driving I had that goofy glowing doodad sticking out of my mouth.

Or in a way that the smell ends up on other people's apartments. As a kid there was a heavy smoker living next to us who smoked on his balcony so the smell ended up in our flat.
Neither a vaper (you guys need a new word) or a smoker, but I'm fairly happy with the development. Sure, it's probably not healthy for you, but everything so far shows that it's at least a whole lot better than regular smoking. At the very least, it bothers me a whole lot less when people do it in public or near me. And hey, how can basically water be comparable to tar and all the stuff in cigarettes?
Also, i've been reading that a lot of the opposition to vaping has directly or indirectly come from tobacco companies. Don't know the details, but it does seem likely. At least one study that had somewhat mixed results got the "Hey, at least you know how bad cigarettes are, this could be worse" stamp on it, while mainly being funded by a company that had a particular interest in keeping cigarettes rolling over the counter.
Basically, it's not good for you, quit if you can. But if you buy into the danger of the unkown thing, you're playing into the wrong hands.

I successfully used an E-Cig to quit smoking, though to be honest, I wouldn't suggest vaping for that purpose to anyone else. As other's have said, it's just too easy to vap (Which is why I know a few people who are convinced vaping is a tobacco conspiracy to get us all to smoke more, which for all I know could be true).
I loved it while I used it though. Was able to vap at work without anyone noticing, smell or visual wise. When people did realize what I was doing, all the smokers were jealous, and the non-smokers could honestly not tell I was doing it.
A few other points that people seemed to have asked...
Smell - You cannot smell this stuff unless you put your nose about 2 inches away from someones mouth, or if the e-cig overheats and burns out (At which point your smelling the mechanism). It also doesn't leave any residue around so it wont soak into the walls or your cloths. The fluid itself is pretty rank, but that's because its super concentrated flavoring syrup, essentially.
Second Hand Vaping - You can't really tell when someones exhaling this stuff, unless their taking monster hits. At that point, the exhalation looks kind of like someones breath when its cold outsides, and it doesn't get nearly as far away. It would be foolish to say you can't get something out of the air from vaping, but it doesn't persist at all, unlike smoke. Studies seem to be inconclusive, but I'd figure you'd have to be pretty close to someone to affect them in any meaningful way.
Negative Health Affects - Vaping is basically the intake of pure nicotine with a smidge of flavoring. Nicotine is actually far less dangerous then one would think - the dangers of most tobacco intake is from the tobacco itself, and associated chemicals often added. All the same, chronic intake of nicotine is not without its dangers. You probably wont get cancer from vaping, but that's not really a guarantee you won't get sick.
I no longer Vap, by the way. Though I do smoke the occasional cigar.

I am a 20 cigarette a day man (or was). I'd happily smoke until I'm riddled with disease (that way the pathologist will know I led an interesting life) but at 20-a-day at 10 or so euro per pack, it's an expensive habit.dumbseizure said:
I've been "vaping" for a year and a bit and a 30ml bottle of juice will last me a week and a half. At 7 euro for a 30ml bottle, that isn't bad. The "hit" is comparable to the real thing. I like it. Not a fan of the sweeter juices though.

being run for these ecigs on UK TV. That's about as close to a modern version of it's cool to smoke kids as you can get.
Lets remember folk that we used to think that smoking had no issues and the companies that made and encouraged folks to smoke are now grasping at ecigs with the same money grubbing claws that they used to grab at the cigarette market many many years ago. The only difference being that maybe it will be a few years before we work out if these things are harmful or not rather than the several decades it took to find out just how bad cigarettes are.
The truly awful thing is these ecigs started off as a means for smokers to quit the habit yet around a year or two ago they somehow went from being a method for quitting to just being a plain and simple alternative to smoking. Pretty much trading one extremely destructive habit for a habit we really don't yet know the long term health issues of.

He transitioned to e-cigs as a way to get off of cigarettes, he's been vaping for a couple years now.
He doesn't use it to quit smoking, but as a replacement for smoking, it lets him still get his nicotine fix without the cancer, as well as the fact that he is disabled and can't keep going downstairs every time he wants to smoke.
E-cigs let him "smoke" indoors when he wants with no ill effect on everyone around him.
The juice is made from food-grade products and flavorings, so unless you drink the stuff, it's pretty safe.
For those saying it doesn't smell, that's not really true, in the open air, yeah, it's harder to smell it unless you're right near them, but indoors it's definitely easy to tell when he's taking a puff.
The flavorings can be tailored to your tastes, and makes the act of vaping a bit more enjoyable, he doesn't have to take 10 minute smoke breaks anymore, at most he stays out for about 45 seconds.
He still respects others when vaping outdoors, he tilts his head down some when exhaling so that the vapor just blows back into his shirt, and generally doesn't smoke indoors unless he has permission, despite knowledge that it doesn't really stink up the place badly.
According to a friend, it does leave smells behind, but it's not the horrible smoke funk, but more of an air freshener kind of smell, if someone didn't know my mom very well and got into her car, they'd just think that she uses an air freshener to make her car smell like butterscotch or something, when in reality her fiance vapes in the car.
I'm not even 21 yet, but if in the future there comes a day that for whatever reason I do smoke, I would go to e-cigs.

As a non-smoker, I'd rather have someone around with an e-cig than a smoker. Frankly they stink a lot less. e-cigs have much less second hand smoke and the scent doesn't stick to your clothes so much.
Not trying to sound arrogant about it: I will occasionally smoke with a hooka. I've wondered how that compares to an e-cig.

I've only used a hookah on occasion, but i'd say that if you used the flavoured tobacco in them, you can get similar flavours from a e-cig as you can from a hookah.prowll said:
In terms of the amount of smoke or vapour, they can be quite similar. Some e-cigs can give you an absolute ton of vapour, and some can give much less, it all depends on the components and the e-liquid.
What I hate about cigarettes the most is smell. Vaping removes the smell, and the annoying freaking littering of throwing cigarette butts literally anywhere outside for no repercussions.
I really would prefer if all smokers switched to e-cigarettes, but it'd be better if they stopped entirely.

That also depends on what kind's being used. All the people I know that vape and use e-cigarettes have a very distinct smell.Bertylicious said:
As a former smoker, now non smoker who can't be around people smoking without being sent into an asthma attack, I like people who vape a lot better. Because the vapour doesn't irritate my asthma. Most of the people I know who do it are trying to cut out the nicotine addiction so they have the least amount as possible and keep dialing it down until it's not there anymore. And some of the scents/tastes they use smell really good.
