E-cigarettes-are they any good?

Right, as a newbie to this forum I'm saying hiya first of all
I'm trying to give up smoking at the moment as I'm asthmatic etc....
Anybody using e-cigs, what are they like etc?

I knew 3 people who tried them. At first they were all positive about it. Now they still smoke as mutch as they used to and don't use that e-cigarette at all. I've tried it once, but I didn't like the taste. It was like lighting up an old sock. But you do have different tastes and brands, so maybe there are some that do the trick.

*Edit: I almost forgot to mention that they tend to have lots of defects.

I've tried to quit and did for 5 to 6 months (so I'm not the best example of how it should be).
But here are some tips that helped me in that time:

- Use (regular) chewing gum whenever you have the urge to smoke.
- Before you totaly quit, first slow down to aclimatize your mind and body to less nicotine.
- Tea is nice when you quit. But things like coffee and alcohol just enduced the craving for me.
- Get some things to distract your thoughts about cigs, get something you can use your hands with so you aren't confronted with the 'emptyness' of cigarette at hand.
- Reward yourself time to time for not smoking and think of the money you've saved so you can buy yourself that present.

Am actually quite interested in what actual people, rather than company paid generic humans, think on this. Am not a smoker myself, never been, but have a few family members I'd like to get off the stuff (not being pushy, they wanna get off it too and have tried, they're just too addicted, my brother having been on 3 packs a day at one point) and apparently, this is supposed to be a lot healthier, or rather, a lot less unhealthy, but again, that's just the marketing tag.

Haven't tried e-ciggarettes myself. I quit smoking 6 weeks ago now (yey), I went cold turkey. I thought I was going to kill someone the first week, had a harder time sleeping aswel. But now I still feel the cravings but not as much, I try to distract myself by doing someone else like eating something I like.

That's really impressive! Kudos to you, I haven't actually put any serious effort into quitting to date. I know I should though.

I don't have attacks generally because its well controlled- only very occasionally if I'm ill.

I've tried a few of them and they all seem a little meh compared to normal cigs. I've only tried the medium nicotine one and I'd like to see if the strong is even better. Still they end up saving you money of you stick to them, don't give you the black lung feeling so bad and you can "smoke" in more places.

I have heard about some issues with the e-cigs being a bit dodgy- but didn't know they were that bad. I certainly don't want to smoke an old sock nasty.

Well, I got a surprise phone call from one of my friends. They said: "We've got you a present" Turns out its the Green Smoke starter kit. (e-cigarette) Real bizarre as I was only posting about it last night, they know I'm pretty desperate to quit now. I'll have the starter pack within the next few days so I'll see if they really are like smoking an old sock.
