So its E3 time and the big five are showing off their upcoming titles. Having watched all of them (except Nintendo's) I lost count of how many times the word f*ck and its many variations were used. I assume Nintendo's conference was f*ck free but still, is it really necessary? They're throwing the word f*ck around so much its actually repulsive.

Anyway, I just wanted to find out what other Escapists think about it

"HUUR DURR GIRL WOOD HURR DURR"
I wouldn't mind it if it was funny.

Who the fuck cares?
Yar.

This is an industry show for adults, often showing adult games. In these games are adults who will sometimes use adult language as a part of fleshing out their personality. I don't see the problem.

Profanity is not adult, it's juvenile. Adults don't think that overuse of the F word is cool.

It's new to me that profanity is "adult".
We punish children for using profanity (don't ask me why, but we do), but adults can, and often do use it during regular conversation.

Most especially in stressful situations as the characters in games are often shown in.

Profanity is a lack of respect for the people around you?

Wow, 25 years on this earth, and that's a new one for me. You learn something everyday it seems..

No, but it can be hilarious.

They don't think it's uncool, either. They are usually able to understand that words are just words, and that even "profane" ones have their place.

The whole idea of "doing something to be cool", though, is something you tend to stop worrying about once you hit your mid 20s and start realizing that the whole idea of "acting cool" is absurd.

Yes, profanity has it's place, but overuse of it doesn't.

If the Mythbusters proved it, it's got to be true. [http://dsc.discovery.com/videos/mythbusters-no-pain-no-gain/] ... ANyway, swearing does help alleviate pain. So there's a good reason why we do it. And apparently e3 this year was pretty poor, so... they did it to feel better?

LOL, that's pretty funny. Swearing doesn't improve E3 but atleast it makes those swearing feel better.

They are just words, honestly I don't see how 'swearing' can still be taboo. most of the cuss words don't even carry a meaning other than being swear words.

E3 is pretty far from being a 'professional' event and has been that way for years. The fact that the term 'booth babes' exists should prove that.

It used to bother me, but now that I don't live with my parents who would lash me with hickory if I said the word "Crap" with too much emphasis, I realize that in the sorts of situations that game characters are in (i.e. painful, dangerous, scary, etc) those barrages of shits and fucks are pretty much what my verbal reaction would be.

You might care when you have kids running around the house.

I would rather give myself a vasectomy with a rusty hacksaw (no I don't know if that's possible) than have kids.

Good thing your parents didn't think the same way.

I am kidding, I understand what you're saying but I couldn't resist.

Ninja'd :(

I don't care how many times people have said fuck in E3, I care more about how many times announcements/videos have made me go *FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU...*
