For me halo ended after the first game. Dual weilding, destructable vehicles, barriers up everywhere to keep you from experimenting with the vehicles, two damn storylines instead of focusing on the cheif, too much focus on multiplayer (and this coming from a halo lan junky)... I couldn't make it more than halfway through halo 2 before I gave up on the franchise.

Oh, no...here we go again.

Damn you standard-less gaming zombies! The industry continues to pump out, yet even more mediocre games, because you keep supporting the previous ones!
/mini-rant

There really wasn't a need for another one....or three.
Except that people enjoyed the games....

And the third game left it open on purpose.

I mean honestly people, how was him drifting off in uncharted space a good end to the series. It was an obvious cliff hanger.

How are people surprised.

If you people don't like the series just don't play it. Personally I'm looking forward to seeing where he is and what new enemies there are.

Maybe even a none-human upgrade to the spartan armour??????
More casual fans probably aren't aware of the Legendary ending. The normal post-credits scene really was a satisfying ending.

But, yes, this day was obviously coming, so just shut up and accept it.
You know, I forgot that that ending was legendary only.

I suppose some peoples confusion is to be expected then. But I'm sure most knew about it, even if only second hand.
Hell, I didn't even KNOW it was Legendary only. Whenever a new Halo comes out me and my friends soldier through on the toughest difficulty as a rule. Cept for Reach. That game was hard as balls.

Anyone either acting surprised by this announcement, or indignant that they are continuing the Halo saga: What the hell? If you don't like Halo or the last couple Halo games, don't buy any more. If you are super fond of the series and don't want it continued, don't buy any more. It is as simple as that. Some of you idiots act as if the mere existence of a game is somehow hurting you, grow up. SMH

Oh good, jetpacks. Because no-one thought they were just a gimmick rolled out for Reach. But hey, if we're going for gimmicks, can we have a whole jetpack mission in the campaign? Controlled with Kinect? Where on Legendary the mission is impossible because halfway through the mission an Elite reaches out of the screen and slaps you in the face for buying this game?

But to be honest, I only really say that because that might be the only thing that stops me from buying this thing. Curses.

Also, please get the multi-player right 343i. Please.

I'm not a fan of beating a dead horse either, but people throw around "casual" as much as "hipster" without using the terms properly

Despite the fact that I knew this was coming, I'm still pissed off.

Halo 3 had a perfect ending and now...
...you can just ignore the new trilogy. It's as simple as that. Nobody is forcing you to play anything. Never understood this mentality; would somebody please care to explain?

Wow, that's another company going with the "Because I say so" form of sequelling.

They have four games (Halo 1, 2, 3 and Reach) and two spin-offs (Halo 3: ODST and Halo Wars) and the next games are going to be 4, 5 and 6.

So that's Rockstar, Capcom and now Microsoft.

Also, how egotistic and corporate dickish to announce THREE SEQUELS!?

A: When the hell did he have a jetpack on his back. I don't recall that from the 3rd game.
B: I wonder if this is going to be any good without Bungie at the helm. (I'm right that this is being made entirely by Microsoft, right?)
C: Another 3 movies? This is exactly what happened to Star Wars like someone mentioned above me. Hopefully they don't make the same mistake and let Hayden Christensen anywhere near it. (Or George Lucas for that matter.)
D: Trailer looks pretty wicked :)

YES! I always welcome another Halo game, no matter what the haters on this site say. I know that this will be an awesome game!
I agree! That is because the haters do not know what a GOOD game actually is....and good games are HALO GAMES!!! ( Well except Halo Wars )

I'd still like to see some more spin off games (More ODST, more Halo Wars, maybe something where you play exclusively as the Covenant) but hell I don't care, I love Halo and no doubt I'll buy into this trilogy and the Anniversary Edition.

Here's hoping that 343 can show off some skill, and some good storytelling.

Now, a wave of hate!
I completely agree with you, and I find it funny that people automatically assume that money is the primary goal for these game, but it's not. Yes money is important for companies we are a capitalistic society after all, but you know what all companies focus on? The customer, because the customer is what brings them the money, especially the entertainment industry. They aren't going to release a game if they don't believe the people want it, and guess what? People want more Halo

No Halo 3 did NOT have a perfect ending. Did you watch ALL of the cutscenes at the end? No game would leave the hero floating in space like that.

3 games, not 3 movies, there is a difference :)

Alright, just gonna do some copy-pasta from the accidental reveal here...
As much as I like the idea of making more games to explore the world and setting of Halo, I really don't like this. Reach did it right: Halo 3 is really the end, there's not much more you can do with the story after that. Prequels are definitely the way to go; there's like 20 years of the Human-Covenant world to explore, after all. As much as it makes sense for Microsoft to milk this cash cow, there's far, FAR better ways to do this. This isn't just greed, it's crass, stupid storytelling.
Still relevant here.
You played it? I didn't realize it. Please, explain the story and how it's crass and stupid to me. I'd love to hear what happens.

That is, if you know and know that the storytelling is bad. If you don't, though... well that'd be just silly of you to call it that, wouldn't it?

Don't make assumptions.
Halo 3: FINISH THE FIGHT.

From the outset Halo 3 was set to be the end of Master Chief's story. Bungie quit and set up 343 studios to make more Halo games in general, hence Reach and ODST. I really can't see how this won't end up like the Star Wars series did with the prequels. Ironically, prequels seem to be the way to go to make decent stories out of the Halo Universe. Hell, why not make a game about the Forerunner versus the Flood war? That would be more interesting. As it stands, this looks like it will rehash the story thread of Halo 1 with maybe a few upgrades to the gameplay.

The hate isn't unwarranted. A lot of smaller companies will not do well the holiday season of 2012 because everyone will buy Halo 4.

There's a game series called MARATHON that everyone here needs to learn about. There is a theory that the main character is actually Master Cheif.

Well, it looks cool and all, but aren't we out of villains?

Would it have really killed them to elaborate what I'll be shooting this time around?

Well I was gonna say that I'm interested to see where the series is going next but I'm scared I'll get pitchforked and run out of The Escapist for it, so uhh *clears throat* Grr I hate Halo, and all who enjoy it. How dare they not have my opinions! They must just not be as smart as me.

Fair enough, maybe it's not that stupid. I'm not saying the game can't be good (in fact, knowing Halo, I'm thinking it might be pretty awesome), I'm just saying it's a clumsy case of shoehorning a story where it doesn't really belong. At the end of the day, after all's said and done and no matter how good the game and its story is, it's a story attached on the end of a story made (and already wrapped up) and finished by somebody else.
There's a very good chance that this story will be superior to the original trilogy. It's going to be rooted deep in the Halo mythology with the Forerunners and its general plan is going to be written from the beginning, unlike the "are we going to do well enough to have a sequel?" disaster that kind of doomed Halo 2.

That doesn't necessarily mean that it will be of better quality, but it will likely reduce filler.

Just because it's a sequel doesn't mean it is automatically bad.
