http://penny-arcade.com/patv/episode/stand-together-the-gaming-community-vs-sopa-and-pipa So if you didn't watch the video it explains how the forces behind E3 (the ESA the lobbying arm of the games industry) supports SOPA and they get all their money from E3. The video calls upon everyone to help spread the word and boycott E3 this year.

You do realize that boycotting E3 could do more harm to game developers than good? SOPA may be an abomination, but when we start helping it ruin the things we love, we're taking a step backward. Boycotting is not the answer but I suppose it won't hurt to organize a rally or something.

Sometimes you read something, and are just really stumped as to what to say.

This is that time.

Yes, MercurySteam, give them your money. March around with a sign.
Or don't give them your money. March with a sign.

Let me know which works.

Considering that I don't live in America, I won't be giving them my money anyway, and will still be enjoying the E3 demos and presentations from GameSpot. Perhaps you could try it out for me and let me know how it goes?

So if you do plan on passing this information on to any reviewing site or developer or personality tell them that if they're boycotting E3 they can contact these guys StandTogetherSOPA@gmail.com it's a team up of loading ready run, extra creditz, screw attack, and fire fall to form their own expose for the E3 boycotters

Do you know how difficult it would be to not partake anything that will earn them money? And I absolutely agree that PIPA and SOPA need to be destroyed and all the morons behind them murdered, then wiped from existence. But does that mean we have to sacrifice E3 in the process? The ESA is a big organisation and I'm sure there are other ways to get their attention rather than sabotaging everyone's favourite gaming convention.

SOPA affects everyone, not just those living in America. I agree 100% with everything in that video and personally won't watch anything about E3 this year.

Okay, here's the long and short of where I stand.

PIPA and SOPA both equally need to be stopped and making the ESA withdraw their support is but a stepping stone. I'd be happy if we could make them withdraw their support before E3 so that the greatest annual conglomeration of gaming spirit won't be destroyed because of the retards over in the U.S. Congress. That said, if the ESA continues their support for those who wish to destroy the internet then it may well come to the game devs who love E3 so much to let it stagnate until the ESA feels the burn. I hope that it won't come to this, but SOPA and PIPA need to be obliterated to make the freedoms of the internet uncompromised.

I'll leave it at that for now, and pray that it doesn't come to this.

perhaps its a case of "i love you that's why i have to kill you", by threatening something that clearly is the best thing to happen in gaming all year they hope to get them to withdraw support before the event. That way they can let everyone return, have a great time and learn what lesions their is to learn.

if that doesn't happen maybe its time to find some new event

EDIT: i just read your earlier post and noticed you explained my view point more concisely then i did.

E3 is not the biggest gaming event in the world, it is not even the biggest in the US. It does, however, usually receive the most coverage. E3 is not for gamers, and it is not held by gamers, but it is entirely directed at gamers. It's a massive advertising platform for the companies that support it. E3 costs a lot to put together, but generates a massive return because of how far reaching its audience becomes. This is what this action is fighting. If nobody is watching E3, and nobody is covering E3, it will just be a massive cost to the ESA.

You might fear that you will miss important announcements or news of brand new releases. On an individual scale you would be right. If just a few viewers refuse to watch E3 coverage then only those viewers (and the revenue they might create) is lost - a drop in the ocean. But if the coverage of E3 takes a hit, then the propagation of its advertising will be substantially diminished.

Here's the icing on the cake: game developers and publishers are not blind to the goings on of the gaming community. If The Escapist and enough other gaming news websites declare their intention to blank E3, then big announcements and reveals will be moved from E3 to other events that will have the necessary coverage. As a gamer, you will miss nothing, and you may discover that events such as PAX, the TGC or Gamescom (any of which are much larger than E3 and involve gamers from all walks of life, not just the industry) hold far more of the "spirit of gaming" than you would otherwise give them credit for.

There are other gaming conventions out there, screw E3. And for this I don't think anyone should support E3 at all. Even if the ESA "withdraws" their support of the 2 bills, its obvious where they stand on the matter. Let them burn, I say.

No offense, but I think that's nonsense. As if there's no other way for games to get publicity.

Besides, E3 isn't open to the general public anymore, right? I'd say it's lost quite a big part of it's power. It's great that journalists get to see these games, but what about the public...y'know, the people actually buying the games?

Furthermore, it's pretty easy to avoid anything having to do with the E3: Don't click on anything that mentions it! -Don't- watch the presentations on Gamespot or anywhere!
