Having just saw the new tv spot for bf3, and having seen the new tagline. Which is "above and beyond the call", and obvious dig at CoD. Seriously EA and/or Dice, this is just starting to be you attacking the CoD series like a little kid, the tagline might as well say "buy bf3, because CoD is a pile of doody. Say What you want about CoD or Activision, when was the last time they purposefully attacked any game EA has made, and does Activision do already on disc DLC or online codes, no they dont.

Heres my source: http://kotaku.com/5843892/battlefield-3s-latest-tv-spot-goes-above-and-beyond-the-call

So Escapees, what do you think of this blatantly childish tagline?

[EDIT] Well, I admit it wasn't that childish, but its just the fact they used 99 problems as their song, and 99 problems to me is a terrible song. Also, if you were to look into it further you could say that the ***** is actually CoD, so they might be saying that CoD is not a problem to them. Or that's just me over thinking things

EA and Activision are just as bad as each other.

Completely ignorant of that fact that most gamers hate them and couldn't give a shit who was developing BF or CoD. Could have been Nintendo and Sega for all I care.

Blantantly childish? I wouldn't go that far. They obviously realize who their competition is and are going directly after that part of the market. Tons of other companies in other industries do that as well. So I really don't see the problem here.

Yeah, it also bugs me when advertising devolves into "Their product sucks" and not "Our product is awesome and here are some true facts as to why." But I guess it doesn't bug the majority of people or else advertising agencies would probably stop doing it.

Noticed that too?

I had a bit of a laugh when I saw it. I agree with you, though. Juvenile.

Everyone does it so it's not a problem? Um.

Yeah, can't say I give a shit about either company. Activision lost me after running series like Tony Hawk and Guitar Hero into the ground, and that was before all the BS that CoD has causeed. EA, well, they lost me with their continued BS tactics surrounding their sports games. I HATE That EA publishes Bioware titles now, and I hope to god they don't start adding stupid shit to them as well.

Hey I have no problem with this ad. Battlefields biggest competitor is defiantly the Call of Duty Franchise, and as a business should do all it can to divert sales away from CoD and towards Battlefield. The ad was mostly about gameplay (which looked really good to me) and that one tagline at the end suggested a rivalry with CoD. It wasn't a sophomoric or immature. If someone unfamiliar with the rivalry saw that commercial, my guess is that they wouldn't even make the connection.

Pretty much this. It seems EA has learned nothing since they had their little sit-down with the Extra Credits crew after their open letter to EA's marketing. Their advertising is as asinine and patronizing as ever. They need to stop acting like they've got something to prove and just make a game that can speak for itself about how awesome it is.

Am I the only one who doesn't care about this? I find it amusing, and there's nothing wrong with a little smack talk. Isn't that the whole reason people watch wrestling?

Yeah, that's not true.

It comes down to polishing your product while simultaneously throwing shit at the competence. IT has always happened, and always will. It happens in politics, it happened since the first stores were opened and it will continue. So stop bitching about it, since many of you who are whining the hardest are going to purchase it at day 1 anyway. If you really are against this, and care enough:

VOTE WITH YOUR PURCHASE.

Seriously, if you don't like what they are doing that much: DON'T BUY IT. And if you were NOT gonna buy it anyway; Why the hell are you complaining?

Tons of companies do the same thing.

Remember the "I'm a Mac and I'm a PC" commericals with Justin Long and John Hodgman?

How about the At&T versus Verizon commericals where each company claims the same exact thing, that their 3G network is better than the competitors?

Companies do this all the time, because the easiest way to sell people on their product is to show how their product is better than their competitors'. It's a very standard practice in advertising.

The entire point of advertising is to point out your product's dominance to a specific market. Battlefield and Call of Duty happen to full under the same jurisdiction and thus they must attack the competition.

Cell providers downright state their competition is shittier than theirs in their commercials, why can't a publisher hint that their game is better than the other?

I would agree with you if there hadn't been a huge amount of 'professional' mudslinging once the marketing gears for BF3 tarted [sic] up. Mudslinging which has taken over the community spaces for each rival series. But, perhaps I'm simply jaded.

Was a good cheap laugh, though :)

*Edit*

To clarify. It goes beyond framing the competition and business rivalry, to just being another cheap-shot.

I don't get this CoD vs BF3, they are different games, the only thing they really have in common is being a modern fps. Seriously, they are games focusing on very different play-styles. I still think EA is the moron in this situation for starting the whole "rivalry" starting from the Bad Company ads. Seriously, how is BF3 a competitor to CoD; its like comparing football to rugby, sure they are similar, but a fan of football isn't going to suddenly go omg rugby is amazing fuck football, and vice versa. The only way you can beat a competitor is by taking their game mechanics/playstyle and improving it.

EA don't attack CoD for no reason, they attack it because it's shit
they attack it because that's how advertising works, theirs is just a lot more direct (and hilarious - Federation Against Grenade Spam).

The "Go above and beyond the call of duty" amused me sufficiently not to annoy me, but yeah, for the most part its just petty.

It doesnt matter how "childish" they all are towards each other, or how many stars and great sounding blurbs are placed on a trailer or game box.

This whole CoD vs Battlefield argument will still be being debated by sad acts on the internet until the end of time. Just ignore it, play what you want to play and for christs sake have fun doing it.

Apparently I'm the only person who actually enjoyed the music, according to the comments on Kotaku.

OT: Who cares? Do you go make a thread on Cell phone websites every time you see a commercial where they say they have better 3G coverage than the competing provider? Or a food website when Subway portrays fast food negatively? It's asinine to do so here then.
