EA has suddenly gained a heart? This is very unexpected, though Activision has kind of taken EA's place as the evil corporation of the game industry.
EA have been doing the 'repent and be a good guy' thing for like a year now, they even put out sassy comments about Activision being evil, where have you been hiding? :p
Yeah, but looking good next to Activision is... how to put this... not difficult.
The sad part is that since Spore came out and EA "learned its lesson", EA's stock is down almost 70%. John Riccitiello, who's become like Scrooge after the three ghosts showed up, has had to fight for his job. No good deed goes unpunished.

I just tried talking to EA's customer support, and lo and behold even though I'd actually played a couple hours of APB they gave me a free copy of Battlefield: Bad Company 2 without any real trouble.

That was certainly not what I had expected to get today...and I'm not sure how I'm going to have time playing it between starcraft 2 and civ 5...but I'm happy! :)

APB acutally looked interesting, but I've made a promise not to play any MMOs.

Damnit... The Old Republic might make me break my promise...

I bet that the first guy would have gotten Dragon Age 2 if he hadn't gone public with it. Their policy is probably to throw products at people until they go quiet (which is really the best policy they could go with - they aren't really at a shortage) but they can't allow rumours to spread that they'll just be giving up all their new shit or everyone will want it (and then they will be at a shortage).

Also LOL at all the people who find it strange EA is being 'nice'. Being good to customer isn't 'nice', it's 'good business practice'. And licking the boots of majorly pissed customers isn't 'very nice', it's 'liberty to do whatever it takes to stop a crisis'. EA is doing what it has always done, which is the most profitable thing it can do, only now the most profitable thing to do is to wine and dine costumers rather than kicking them in the nuts.

Such a shame that a good idea was let down by shoddy execution.

IF they had put some thought into APB before they gave it the OK to launch, this could have been spared from the abysmal reviews and lack of sales.

BUT they got greedy. They went for flare over fun, which nipped them in the ass. I would have bought the game if the mechanics werent broken, the gameplay wasnt dull, the quests werent a grindquest, and all the other mistakes MMOs make.

As for EA growing a heart, I wouldnt go THAT far. They are still an evil corperation that wringes their hands together at the slight scent of profit, and wouldnt get a crippled kid a lolipop if they couldnt see a return from the investment. This is more then likely just a coup so people wont turn around and say "we had no advanced warning /sue".

As for EA vs Activision, their both shitty companies that are just as evil and control some of the best talent in the industry, making me wince whenever I have to pick up a game from Blizzard or Valve. Lets face it, both are evil, and the industry would be 1000x better without them. BUT, thats a rant of mine for another day.

I filed a complaint with their email customer support. It's not that I'm even upset about not being able to play APB because I didn't like it. I just hate to have something useless on my shelves.

Good on them. I'm kind've amused at the idea of a game so bad, the distributors settled for damages with the "victims".

(Yes, I know that's not really what happened, it's just kind of an amusing idea.)

I contacted EA last thursday, and friday I got a confirmation email stating that I would get a full refund.

I bought (pre-ordered) the game on EA Store.

I already miss the customization of APB, I downloaded the LOTRO Free-To-Play last night and was shocked by the quality of the character builder.

I really hope future MMOs give us the level of detail to the Character Customization that APB had.

RIP APB, hopefully someone will revive you.
