Why in the world would they even consider asking Minecraft be on Origin when people can already get it standalone?

That's like stealing something from a group of people and then telling them they can get it back if they pay the thief and get it at a crappier quality

He's made a lot on his own already, and he's already turned down valve and job offers.

Don't do it Notch, It's a trick! They lure you in with the promise of an unlimited development budget, then suck you dry and toss away the husk. They've done it to bigger developers than you. Run, run for your life!

Man, after reading all the comments on this. I remembered that I am one of the ten people here that actually doesn't just hate EA.
OT: I don't really have an opinion on this. I don't see how it effects anything.

Smart man. Never make a deal with a publisher if you can avoid it. It just leads to bad things down the road most of the time. Many developers are proof enough of that.

A baker has outrageous prices, you go to another baker. If there are no other bakers, someone will see the opportunity and start a bakery. Or you can just get the ingredients yourself and bake at home, and what you end up with is exactly the same thing.
Now let's say I want to play a good game. I want to play Mass Effect. But I don't like the price or conditions imposed by EA. Can I go to someone else to buy my Mass Effect? No, and people know this of course, which is why we're stuck in the situation you described.
Thats basically like saying that a single baker has a monopoly on the bread that he makes so you are stuck buying his bread. You don't have to buy Mass Effect there are lots of other good games.
I just looked through all my games and the last thing that I bought that EA published was in 2001 it really isn't that hard to avoid EA games their are lots of other developers.

Consumer regulation does have some positives. Voting with your wallet does show what you do / do not want to have. If a company sees a loss in profit from a table that's colored Red, they'll stop producing that Red table then. What other option would there be? If a company is seeing profits from one product but losses from another why rely on some other entity to tell them to drop product A and sell product B? Especially if it can backfire and have them discontinue a popular product while putting more resources towards an unpopular one thus putting their stability in danger.

You're right in that there should be a majority of blame on the companies, although, if no one wants DLC, but people do buy the game AND DLC what do you expect the companies to do? Not sell DLC? All their data says people want it, they'd be stupid to NOT sell it, so both sides to have to take SOME blame.

Also, never fucking tell a programmer what they cannot accomplish. Stop me if this surprises you, but EA drops the ball. Again.
Well, I bet he can't write a program that determines whether a given a program and an input to the program, whether the program will eventually halt when run with that input.

Can EA come up with a compelling argument as to WHY Notch should put Minecraft on Origin? Because to me it sounds like EA has everything to gain while Notch has absolutely nothing to gain.

What madman would agree?

Is Notch insane? That's pretty much the biggest compliment a business can give someone, offering their time and resources free of charge. Maybe they had some ulterior motive but you'd think he'd be polite enough to at least work out the details before throwing it in their face. Ugh... remind me why people like this guy again? It's ok to like his game and still think the person is a total prick.

I can't really disagree with anything he said. EA's resources would definitely help Minecraft and even if they aren't asking for anything directly the extra income having such a popular developer on their system would make it worthwhile for them. Again, got to ask, is Notch insane?

Because what Minecraft totally needs right now is

a) a Publisher
b) not any Publisher, one who can't go 2 days without screwing up PR
c) one that from the box wanted to integrate Minecraft on a platform that would take control away from Mohjang regarding to distribution and uptade terms without giving a single advantage.

He'd be insane to even consider the offer. Notch has just proved a publisher is not mandatory. He sits in gobs of money because he didn't beg for a publisher nor had to share anything with one. Why would he want anything from EA?

Maybe I'm misinterpreting this but giving away his game for free sounds like a horrible deal. As I said, I'm pretty sure I don't fully understand this as I don't really know anything about Origin other than the fact that it keeps trying to install itself on my computer.
