Well, not sure if I have the answer for this one myself. But let's say that for whatever theoretical reason, it came down to ONLY these two brands, and you had to pick one or the other. No double spies; not choosing one or the other means... um... death? I guess? I know a lot of you will hate both brands, so you gotta choose the lesser of two evils.
For me, on one hand, Activision has absorbed my favourite old company, Sierra On-Line, and has allowed Sarien.net to continue, so that scores lots of points. EA has absorbed another one of my favourites, Origin Systems, and dragged it through the ground. Minus points.
There are probably pros and cons to either side (which I hope to hear throughout the course of the thread). Tentatively I think I'm leaning more towards the Activision side for now, but I can still potentially be swayed.
So, draw the battle line here. Which side are you on?
EDIT: I admit that I went in on this somewhere on the fence, maybe leaning towards Activision entirely because of Sarien.net. However, after reading some of the responses and judging the valid points, I am swinging back over to EA.
