Truthfully, I can see Battlefield 3 being very successful, but not enough to beat COD.

They already published Brutal Legend, which is a thousand times better than CoD, and better than most games in general actually...

This :D

I doubt that it will get enough purchases though because it won't be mainstream enough, or not enough people will buy it(see CoD fanboys)

I'm sorry, didn't they say this about MoH aswell? And we all saw how well that did...as much as i dislike CoD, EA could never, ever top it.

Well... good luck with that.

I hope they do though really... Early MOH > Early COD.

From what I've played of the new MOH it's not bad, they just didn't do enough.

I imagine they mean success in sales rather than 'in good gameplay and narrative' because if it's the latter they're setting the bar awfully low.

I've played Black Ops and Modern Warfare. To be honest, Quake 3 Arena is more fun = better.

Agreed so much :) I love Brutal Legend.

Also, the last thing we need is more crap war shooters.

They already did, unless Mass Effect 2 was actually published by someone else and I didn't see it.

Well from the rumors floating around about the next CoD installment, I don't think it will take much.

Realistically speaking, I don't expect Battlefield 3 to beat Call of Duty, at least not in sales. In terms of gameplay and all that though? Hell yes. Battlefield games already beat the ever-loving shit out of CoD in that regard.

Should be an interesting few years ahead if EA are truly serious about unseating Call of Duty from the throne as the dominant shooter on the market. It's going to take a monumental effort if they wish to topple Activision, and one wonders if EA and DICE are truly up to the task. Infinity Ward, and to a lesser extent Treyarch, have managed to nail the gameplay aspect in the Call of Duty series. You can think what you want about the story and multiplayer balance, but the gameplay itself has almost been perfected. It'll be interesting to see if DICE are able to match the slick, smooth efficiency that IW has managed to instill in their games. The ease of play that has resulted in the mind-boggling sales figures the CoD series has managed to attain.

I'm looking forward to that a helluva lot more than anything from CoD or the DICE team. The modern war fad will fade eventually but for now I'm glad there are a few different flavors of FPS on the market.

Don't try to 'beat' CoD, you'll just draw attention to it. A series can't stay popular forever, and it'll fade into obscurity if they stop making such obvious competitors.

This. EA has published all the recent BioWare titles, and I would take ANY of them over CoD.
