So I decided to go back to my first post (which took forever) and look at some of my early comments on the Escapist and... good god were they poorly written. Seriously my disregard for grammar and sentence structure was pretty abysmal. Is this how bad I was at posting two years ago? What about you guys? What did your early posts look like? Are they good? Bad? Incredibly silly? For added fun link your first post.

it isn't my worst early post but it is the first one

The movie is actually an excellent representation of war, and the extreme damage it can do to one's mind and behavior. And since war is 99% sitting around, and 1% defecating on yourself in terror (a myth I'm confused by, as I can testify that skirting death more often than not causes your bowels to tighten to the point where such actions are impossible), it obviously makes a movie seem... somewhat oddly paced and boring at times.

I liked it a lot though. It deserved the Oscars (or at least deserved them more than Avatar, the most expensive popcorn movie ever made).

Excellent review though. I agree with most of what you said, other than final conclusion and your description of a 'stone cold, adrenalin junkie nutcase.'
Hurt Locker thread.

Not so bad, thankfully.

And yes, you have come a long way. Good job!

Man, that was back when I had HK-47 as an avatar.
How time flies. :D

If I could talk to my younger self, I would recommend hmm... you know I can't think of any advice I would give myself.
Except perhaps buying stock in whatever Michael Jackson influenced, but that would make me an opportunistic jackhole.

My earliest posts were in User Reviews, the Bargain Bin Specials series. I wrote twelve of them in the fall of '08 (yay unemployment at the time giving me plenty of time to work on my writing).

I joined during the final round of March Mayhem (Valve vs. Bioware). I assimilated in rather surprisingly good, maybe because I learned from my experiences on other forums. I learned how not to be stupid before I came in.

I remember being the first one to make the victory post when Valve won.

Note that I have done some incredible maturing during my time here so here goes, note that my March Mayhem posts have been deleted as they were my true first posts.

I remember that my first post was in a thread about made up words. Looking at my early posts, it seems that I posted in threads with relatively little substance until I was comfortable with the forums.

From a discussion on whether the ends justify the means:

Stoplesteimer said:
Everything is subjective and has to be reviewed on a case by case basis.

If it is justifiable to kill one to save a thousand, is is also justifiable to kill 999 to save 1000?
Would you still kill those 999 if your family were part of that group?

How does age play into this? Is it okay to kill 100 senior citizens to save a baby?

Let's say you kill a serial killer, thats justified right? but what if that serial killers next victim was the next Hitler? Would you still do it? Is the killing still justified?

The problem with judging the ends and the means is that the ends are unknown, and the means are often not considered fully.

Pretty good if I do say so myself.

My first post, way back in the dark ages when I went by the name Alpha1089. The thread was titled:

[HEADING=2]Great Game you DON'T like?[/HEADING]

Steppin Razor said:
Baldur's Gate
After listening to my friends rave about how good it was I decided to pick it up. The story and system seemed alright and I was looking forward to sinking a lot of time into another RPG. I only managed to go about 2-3 hours before I uninstalled it and never looked at it again. Everything about the game screams great to me, but I just find myself unable to even stomach trying it again after how uninterested I was by it all. The graphics, story, characters, system etc all drew me in, but something about it just stopped me having fun. I've played through other games like it with worse stories and characters and had a blast, but Baldur's Gate just made me want to beat my head on the table until I was unconscious.

Edit:

Left 4 Dead
I grew extremely bored, extremely fast and I still can't figure out why. I mean, it's a bloody rampage of blowing away anything that moves with a few mates and the hilarity of setting zombies on fire or watching them chase after a flashing pipe bomb. And yet the only time I was having fun was when zombies were set on fire or chasing after said flashing light.
Having a look over my old posts, it seems I've turned into a little ***** over my time here. I used to aggressively push forward my ideas, not so much any more :/

On a related note, I've since reversed my opinion on Left 4 Dead, even if I do despise the censored nature of my copy of Left 4 Dead 2.

Well, he does like to keep it for close encounters. Also endeared Gaz to me. I was a bit miffed when
he died :/

I can somewhat remember my first forum post ever in the history of anything. It was a on a "free" multiplay game, I had barely played it for a week and was mad that you had to pay for everything. But the grammar, thw wording, the name, the double post, the idea itself. God it was bad. Thankfully, I've improved greatly.

My first escapist posts seem to be just decently done responses. Nothing particularly bad about them except a spelling error or 2.

I was on and off the site like crazy and talked to people so sporadically that I doubted anyone would notice.

And eh, I'll eventually move onto something else when I find another character I like as much. For now though, the flashy cleaver stays.

I'd say Aston Martin's in the James Bond movies is the most shameless of all time, those two live in such a symbiosis. And in speaking of cars, Volvo plays quite a big role in "Spun", the main guy's called Volvo too, if memory doesn't fail me.

Nokia does there product placements in movies quite nicely; The Matrix, Chev Chelios' 8800 Scirocco edition in Crank where he spends a lot of time on the phone, and also the part in Transformers where it's finally said aloud that Nokia is Finnish. Amongst many many others of course.
Shameless product placement. I suppose I've learned more English my grammar has gotten a bit better. Yet those old posts do not look all that different, compared to this day. Consistency. That's what it's all about. Considering this is the first forum I've roamed around actually posting myself.
