Earned My Princess!

I recently was dragged on a trip to Disney world. It was entertaining and mortifying in a way that only those cutesy characters and mind-shattering jingles could deliver.

However, while on this trip, I began to reminisce about some of the Disney films that I had watched over the years and came to a perplexing realization. Prince Philip from sleeping beauty was one of the few Disney characters that really EARNED his princess. Here is a short list of what he did:

1. Raced cross-county on his horse (horse riding without a saddle is not pleasant but he did it anyways).
2. Dodged lighting and fire.
3. Hacked his way through a giant bramble patch.
4. Killed a freaking dragon!

I've been hard pressed to think of what other movie princess have really done quite as much to get to their blushing dame (Wesley from Princess Bride notwithstanding) and was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on the matter.

What Princes (or similar entity) has earned their princess in the movies?

The Guy in House of Flying Daggers certainly earned the girl's love. He had to go through a lot. He probably shed more blood than anyone else in the movie.

(I know that's not a prince/princess scenario but I assume you mean love in general.)

What about the many, many bad teen comedys? Then again, I guess they didn't really 'earn' their girl. Moreso right place at the right time, or impress her with some crazy shenanigans.

If we're sticking with Disney, Aladdin kind of did. I mean, he saved the kingdom?

I saw the topic and my first thought was Mario, but then he never got his princess.

Poor girl changes castles more than a druggy changes hotel rooms.

I wasn't aware you could "earn" a human.

That's, like, bullshit.

And I freaking love the Sleeping Beauty, if ironically at that.

Especially if you consider the original faerie tale, uncensored for damn children... Where the Prince not only kisses her, but he has kids with her while she's still in a coma. Hilarious...

Which brings me to another point, I fucking hate when people say "Disney's Sleeping Beauty". Disney didn't do shit, pretty much all of their faerie tale-based movies are based on things written centuries ago and raped multiple times to make them less violent, despicable, and awesome.

And I've known so many people with no respect for real folklore who really believe Disney was original with all their shit. Raargh.

Yeah, you can. You do it by typing in "Mail Order Brides" into Google and sending the required amount of money. Dear Lord...I apologize. :)

Also, Anne Rice did a variation on that tale...I tried to read it but it wasn't my taste. Too much abuse to the female protagonist for no real reason other than self-gratification. Seriously, does EVERYBODY have to exploit the poor girl? And how did that become a big seller?

I think it's possible for a princess to earn her prince too... Guys don't have the monopoly on asking out chicks.

Ariel from the Little Mermaid saved Prince Eric. She totally earned it. And Mulan from Mulan she earned her prince too by saving his life.

Though I would say Aladdin earned his Princess, he saved her in the market where she fell in love with him and then as the prince he convinced her that he really cared and didn't just want her for being rich and pretty.

Actually, I was tempted to supply my own prostitute joke. But then I didn't =/

Dude, it's supposed to be BDSM erotica. And it's actually not too terrible, but the princess earns her prince in the end, more than the prince earns his princess.

Theo in Children of Men.
Okay so he doesn't earn a princess, but he earns a place in history; forever people will remember his name in that continuity.

I thought it was quite a popular movie, although now you mention it, none of my friends have seen it either. I think some of the scenes in it were pretty awesome, like the bamboo forest, and definitely the fight in the snow.

I'm not too knowledgeable about what's popular and what's not these days, unless it gets smeared all over forums for being something bad/evil, such as Twilight.

Well, as you said, the real one and the Disney version are different. Hence the reason for "Disney's.." to point out its not the origional.

I've heard of it. The trailer blew me away but it didn't play at my local theater. I was PISSED! To this day I still haven't seen it.

I quoted you so I could correct you. Then I got hit by the trap you set. You: 1, Me: 0. Good job.

Well, that explains a lot. (Joking). I dunno...it wasn't my taste at all and I don't understand how it became such a big seller. I understand if it was because of her name but are there really that many people in to BDSM to that degree? SPOILERS It's most memorable scenes to me were when: the prince carries her through town exposing her to the town, a scene where the prince forces her to perform a certain act with her mouth (I tried to edit that so as not to be permabanned), and one where the queen beats her and gives a whole new meaning to the term "p-whipped"...that's not something I want to read. If you do, fine.

That's because you have more class than I do. I'm vulgar sometimes....
