The original novel was actually published under the name A.N. Roquelaure, so it wasn't because of her name at first. There are 2 sequels as well.swolf said:Well, that explains a lot. (Joking). I dunno...it wasn't my taste at all and I don't understand how it became such a big seller. I understand if it was because of her name but are there really that many people in to BDSM to that degree? SPOILERS It's most memorable scenes to me were when: the prince carries her through town exposing her to the town, a scene where the prince forces her to perform a certain act with her mouth (I tried to edit that so as not to be permabanned), and one where the queen beats her and gives a whole new meaning to the term "p-whipped"...that's not something I want to read. If you do, fine.lilmisspotatoes said:Dude, it's supposed to be BDSM erotica. And it's actually not too terrible, but the princess earns her prince in the end, more than the prince earns his princess.swolf said:Also, Anne Rice did a variation on that tale...I tried to read it but it wasn't my taste. Too much abuse to the female protagonist for no real reason other than self-gratification. Seriously, does EVERYBODY have to exploit the poor girl? And how did that become a big seller?
Yes, there are that many people into BDSM to that degree, although this is more along the lines of forced slavery than true BDSM. *shrug* I did enjoy the novel, and like I said, it's erotica. Not for the faint of heart or squeamish.
