How's it going folks, KLAW's EMWISE94 here, bit of an artist, bit of a gamer, lots of a dreamer. So, I enjoy coming up with scenarios that'd make for good stories to take place in and today I'd like to present to you one such scenario. So lets say, a recent event, either cosmic in nature or slip of the finger, has left Earth highly irradiated and quickly becoming uninhabitable, but worry not for in our time of need a race of highly advance aliens have taken pity upon us. They tell us that they have 3 planets on their galactic map that they can take us to for us to start a new. Here's the catch though: Each planets atmosphere has some X factor about it that will cause human kind to lose their biological humanity, meaning you're gonna have to change physically to adapt to that place! Now my question to you is: from the selection of planets, which would you choose to go to and why?

Right! Your choices: (note: things are about to get soft-science-y)

Planet A: The Hotbox
This lovely little rock is located in a system with 3 stars! So yeah its hot as hell there and to handle this your alien chums have developed cybernetic enhancements to keep you cool, you'll live, but be a bit bulky from all that alien air conditioning tech inside you. Some of it pokes out, exhaust pipes and all. But hey, think of all the add-ons you can make for your cyborg self.

Planet B: The Terrarium
Lush, green, 3 times the oxygen earth has! its truly a paradise, the land is bountiful in animal and fauna, learning from your previous mistakes you decide not to go all out and plunder the planet for its resources and decided to live more humbly to respect the wildlife. Y'all live in domed houses have healthier lives and due to the higher oxygen levels and less pollutants in the air, you all develop amazionian like buff bods *begin flexing*. Downside, Bugs, big bugs, huge freakin' bugs, cockroaches the size of minivans! Oh my! Surely you can defend yourselves, but not with those noisy and pollutant ballistics you had back on earth, no sir. Fisticuffs! Have at thee! But with gained brawn, comes loss of brain. You may be stronger but not as technologically advance nor as intelligent anymore.

Planet C: The Elemental Plains
So you touch down on a swell looking planet where the sun rises green and sets purple (trippy!), but it appears there's some form of odd happenings here and any organic lifeform that isn't originally from this planet seems to die within a month, bummer. Fear not, your alien buddies have a plan: with a serum made from the planets natural water and other stuff, you guys can now survive no problemo, all you gotta do is give up your good looks and golem up!
Will you go with fire and become a walking furnace that's constantly eating lest you run out of steam and pass out. Earth, where you sprout plant life and rock formations like a bad case of the barnacles. Water, where you gotta live in a containment suit or risk dribbling into the gutters. Or the planets fourth element which isn't Air (because that's too vanilla), instead you become living energy, providing power at the cost of your own strength and life span or sapping power to power up and live longer, sure you're unstable and sometimes explode without warning (you'll be fine, can't say the same for Sam though...), but hey, at least you don't gotta pay power bills.

So what's your pick? Basically how extreme are you willing to live? If certain things seem a bit vague, fill in the blanks yourself. Imagination!

Bonus Question: You meet someone from one of the other planet colonies, how do you react to their change?

Out of those... I guess B. I'll get used to the giant bugs eventually. Maybe. But A sounds kinda shitty and C seems like waaaaaay too much work.

I would probably go with B. Having to completely modify myself in order to live on a planet doesn't seem all that appealing. Giant bugs shouldn't be too much of a problem.

And welcome to the Escapist, by the way! I'll let someone else do the whole welcoming ritual.

Welcoming ritual? Does it involve watching every single ZP made? 'cause I already did that. Also now I realise I might have made Planet B OP, it seems having to duke it out with giant bugs everyday doesn't have the sting it used to :/

No. We just need a little bit of your blood to offer to Kross so he keeps the hamsters running. Nothing too crazy. Though, Escapist members are obligated to watch ZP :p

Also, the obligatory "rules" (they're more like guidelines)

- Stay out of the Basement
- Beware the Red Button
- Don't post ponies
- When something goes wrong, blame Kross
- If you enjoy fighting debating, then the R&P sub forum is for you!

I'm sure some other members can fill in any I missed XD

And on more serious note, be sure to read the CoC. Though, if you've seen every ZP episode, then you might be familiar with many of the "rules".

If the air had 3x the oxygen in it, I'm pretty sure we wouldn't be able to breathe it.
Our air is actually only about 21% oxygen and 78% nitrogen, and 1% other crap.

We could actually. Part of the reason Apollo 1 went up the way it did was because NASA at the time liked having 100% oxygen in the cabin. Nitrogen is completely inert to us, so we can take it or leave it.

Oh, okay! I'm not really a biologist or a chemist lol.

I'd go with option B, as all the massive fauna would present a lot of available resources for constructing settlements, and some hefty wooden weapons to defend against the bugs. Also, the fact that there's 3 times more oxygen there than on earth means that fires are going to be incredibly deadly, I'd probably just raze a massive area of fauna, giving all bugs in the immediate vicinity a fiery death.

It is a bit more complicated than that, Oxygen can indeed be toxic to humans, but whether it is or not is not determined by percentage, but by its partial pressure. So long as this planet has less than one standard atmosphere worth of air pressure, perhaps by about 30% (guessing here, not sure of actual values), we'd be fine. A high percentage of O2 can actually act as a stimulant to oxygen breathers. More energy, less time spent recuperating from exertion, that kind of thing.

Elevated O2 levels are also what allowed cockroaches the size of Great Danes to grow in Earth's past, as well as on this hypothetical planet.

OT: I'd be tempted to pick A, but would have quite a few questions concerning the cybernetics first. Depending on the disadvantages involved, the... chaos of planet C may be more palatable. B would appeal to me about as much as staying on Earth to die of radiation poisoning.

B. A and C have too many complications involved.

None. I'm Going down with the ship . Have fun playing Deus Ex on planet A , Turok: dinosaure hunter on planet B and enchanted arms on planet C .

I guess i'll choose planet B . I wanna be buff . As long as the women aren't forced to have one Boob.

Probably should have worded the options better, because while B is of course the preferred option I'd have assumed people would have been scared off by the size difference to be had there, i.e. yes you're buff but you're an ant (earth sized ant) to the current world, for with more O2 does come bigger, or even brawnier, everything, not just the bugs.

I'm totally lost in terms of reference here... that, or amazonification now comes with boob merging side effects :/

Are any of these options that pink planet that they did a news article about recently? And if not, why aren't any of these planets that pink planet they did a news article about recently?

My pick is to visit that pink planet and see if it's full of pastel colored horses or pastel colored bears of some kind.

The legendary Amazons cut off their right breast so that it would't get in the way of their bowstring. I'm assuming that's what the reference is, anyway.

Well B, but before we lose all our brains (not that we would, bigger muscles doesnt mean smaller brains but anyway) we'll rig up plenty of solar generators and use them to power Railguns to deal with the bugs, I figure as the Aliens dont give us any body modifications for this planet we can spring for some Railgun technology to help us deal with the wildlife. Big Railgun towers around every domed city, and personal railguns for everyone. Powered by solar energy and flinging pieces of metal at the bugs without any pollution at all.

Once we've mastered the worst of the bugs maybe we can domesticate some species, saddle em up and ride em like horses!

wouldnt 3 times the oxygen level of earth be highly toxic? thats right, too much oxygen is actually lethal

not to mention that fires would be a real big problem there

Planet A. Fucking A. (Ha)

Because fuck giant ass bugs I can't kill from an incredibly long distance. And screw turning into something random that might just shorten my life anyway.

Oxygen actually improves physical AND mental performance, so I'd have to navigate to Planet B. While the insects would be huge, with our increased brain power and muscles, we could find a way to deal with them. Maybe even ride some giant beetles.
