The thing is, in LA it takes about 2 weeks to rebuild a six lane motorway, here it would take about 2 years.
You're kidding, right? I work for my local council, in the Highways department. Two years? Try five. ;)

Doncaster here. Was brushing my teeth when it happened. Didn't feel a thing, but it sounded like my dad fell out of his chair. Then the noise continued, and it scared my sister witless.

"Mam! Mam, get in here! Get in here, mam!"

She's a wuss sometimes.
Earthquakes can be a scary thing if you ain't used to them. We had one in Georgia a few years back; I thought it was another tornado.

I felt it all the way down here in the East Anglia, just a mild wobbling and the faint sounds of plaster settling itself.

ps. I'm taking bets on how long before someone tries to blame global warming.
Already happened. I was reading through the comments on the BBC 'Have your say' pages, and there it was. You can only hope it was sarcastic.
Probably some Times reader. I reckon somewhere got nuked, and they're saying it s a quake to cover it up.
ITS ALL A CONSPIRACY!!
Or not. But, we are far from any plate "edges" (is that the right word?) And if I remember my geography, the only other place you get quakes is near volcanoes. Hmm, maybe Edinburgh castle is going to get a magma-ey redecoration..
You should of seen the Pravda and Al Jazeera messageboards when those superquakes hit Waziristan.

Didnt really seem to hit the birmingham area, didnt know about it until I saw the news.

The only one ive actually not slept through was the one a few years back where the epicenter was around about the dudley area.

If you follow the A82 out of Glasgow for a bit, by Loch Lomond you will come upon a set of traffic lights that were meant to be temporary..... they have been there for 30 years.

That has to be a record.
