So there's a story today that eating sausage/bacon/etc will raise your rate of Pancreatic cancer by 19%. ZOMG! But what they don't mention is that NCI estimates 43,920 new Pancreatic Cancer cases in the US for 2012, resulting in 37,390 estimated deaths.

So before you ate processed meats, your risk of developing Pancreatic Cancer as a US Citizen was 1 in 6,944. Eating evil processed meats of doom may raise that risk to 1 in 5,625. If they wrote the article or headline that way, it would just be quietly dismissed. But then how else would this be news? Make meat scary!

What's really annoying is that it's like they aren't even trying any more. People are so wary of this bullshit and the first thing I would think a fair portion of us do when we hear this crap is go check some stats. And the news acts like they haven't been regurgitating these same scare stories about all kinds of foods since the 90's.

Share your overblown news scare stories or... profess your love for processed meats?

Everything causes cancer these days

I'd rather live a full life doing whatever I want then avoid all the things that "cause cancer". I'll keep my cellphone, tv, processed meats, whatever. Just let me live in peace.

Seeing as most things will cause some form of body disintegrating disease, it's much easier to simply ignore all warnings and do what feels good. At least that way you can lead a full and fulfilling life without a constant nagging in your brain about how you shouldn't do this or you should do more of that.

Don't care, still going to eat my sausage and bacon, if we allow our fear to get us to stop eating processed meats, cancer wins, and we can't have that.
