Edits that actually didn't mess up the original... or maybe made it better?

So reading a bunch of these anime topics reminded me of something I realized for myself a few years ago.

I'd first seen the anime Escaflowne as a child. Fox kids and all of that. It got to only I believe 9 episodes before it canceled. I didn't watch it again until college in all of its entirety and original, uncensored and Japanese form.

But after I watched it, I realized when I was comparing--because I enjoy that type of thing--that the 9th dubbed episode had one scene that honestly, I mostly preferred over the original Japanese. Examples...

Original Japanese:

The video is loading slow and all so I can't tell you where to jump 'cause every time I try, it freezes. But yeah, it's def on this episode somewhere.

Anyway, this thought made me wanna create this thread so here we are. How about you guys? It doesn't have to be just anime. I know some people aren't really into it. It can be whatever. Books to movies... remakes... what have you.

Just tell me if you have something that was edited from the original that you actually didn't mind and at the best case, prefer. And possibly why.

(For my part, I found I preferred it when I discovered all the damn dirty jokes this scene made. I figure the Fox English version was distracting enough that you probably wouldn't notice too much.)

For one, Jaws. Ironically it was the exclusion of a pointless romance that made it better in large part which is normally the movie's downfall and not the book's.

I actually thought it was better how the Watchmen movie had a laser destroy New York instead of a giant monster like in the comic. The monster seemed a bit silly to me.

The extended editions of the Lord of the Rings movies were much better, in my opinion. Definitely longer, but still well paced. It didn't feel like any dead weight or fan wank had been added, just nice meaty story. And that's not to say I think the full editions should have been released to theaters--God unless they're going to stop and offer one or two intermissions a theatrical release has no business being that long. And thanks to DVDs (and I guess VHS's, but I don't remember extended editions being common until DVDs), that extra work doesn't have to be thrown away :)

Ong Baks French theatrical version is so much better than the original version. They added some cool music and took out a few unimportant scenes that dragged on between fight scenes.

Having Hayden Christensen as ghost Anakin at the end of Return of the Jedi. It just brought the whole thing together so well....

Nah, I'm just kidding, that was dumb.

I love my brother's take on this when he just states. You know that make as much scene as having random actors with the words "This is an young Obi wan and this is a young Yoda!" hovering above their heads. It make no fucking seance! thy the fuck is he young again! It is not like he looked like that a year ago, it has been a long fucking time how the fuck does Luke even know who that is?

The Final Cut version of Blade Runner is a lot better than the theatrical version. Removed the narration and cheesy ending. The funny part is that originally it didn't have either of those things, but the test audience complained that the movie was a bummer and too hard to understand.

Final Fantasy VII Advent Children Complete is another example of a re-edit being better than the original. I find it funny that I enjoy that movie because I didn't like FFVII.
