Ever talk to someone about something, and they don't know what you're talking about? Does it ever happen regarding something that the person in question really should know, and just leaves you thinking "This person needs some education"? Does to me.

For example; I recently got pretty much the entire Blue Oyster Cult collection from my uncle, and I put a couple of songs on my phone. I was at school and people were playing music, so I told them to turn off their music, so I could "play something classic." I started playing (Don't Fear) The Reaper and everyone just looked at me. "Who is this?" they asked. "Blue Oyster Cult" I replied. "Who?" At this point I just stared at them, and then I shouted "Educate yo'self!" Then I left, I couldn't bear to sit there anymore.

EDIT: Ok, so a lot of people are calling me a dick. I'm not entirely sure why though. The people there were all my friends, and we were joking around. I didn't literally get up and leave, it was an exaggeration. People do that sometimes.
Oh, and sorry for thinking of the most famous rock bands in history is classic, I must be an idiot.

Even if they don't know the artist, most people have heard that song at least once, surely.

Well, my tastes in films and music are so obscure I've totally given up on getting people to recognize them, so this doesn't happen much anymore.

And Don't Fear The Reaper is a bit like The Passenger, everyone's heard it, they just don't know where.
Oooh, Film.

Have you seen Himmel Uber Berlin yet? Or A Taste of Cherry?

So you couldn't bear to be with people who didn't know a band that was popular decades before you were even born yourself?

Wow, I imagine you must be quite the popular fellow...

Wow. So rather than take the opportunity to introduce them to something new that they might enjoy, or to share a bit of yourself, you chose instead to be an arrogant tool.

I can only hope that when you encounter someone who knows something you don't, they do the same to you.

So you're saying if a band is more than 10 years older than your date of birth, you shouldn't have heard of them? That's a bit narrow minded and i'm sure you wouldn't say the same thing about other bands.

No really. They had no idea at all, they had never heard it before. It was madness!

There were 4 songs playing at once, so I'm not too sure, but they'd be of the rock/metal/punk persuation.
And thanks for the avatar compliment.

Yep, although in my area it's called Wings Of Desire. I love Wim Wenders. I have also seen A Taste Of Cherry.

Have you seen The Devil Rides Out, Cannibal Holocaust or Come And See? That's the kind of films I'm into.
Devil Rides Out rings a bell. I'll have to check out the others some time. Though it's hard to find any decent cinema in extra-rural Kansas. :(

Dude.

You got suspended last time you insulted me.

That was you, right?
Probated, but I felt the need to say it.

Also forgot to mention that perhaps he acted a bit on the douchebag side of things but those people might re-evaluate(? Thats it?) there view on what they know in "classic" beyond what they know. Or they can just say the OP is a dick and continue on with their limited knowledge. Although I agree if your faced with sheer ignorance without arrogance or anger you should educate them.

Wow ok. That wasn't really called for. I actually don't know what to say to that, that's the most directly I've ever been insulted on this site. It's weird that you can call me an arrogant tool, when you weren't even there. I did try and give them the experience, but I was quickly drowned out by their music again.
I mean wow.

Not necessarily, but i'd expect most people to have at least a little knowledge of some music from before they were born, either from their parents, radio or wherever. There are just some songs you have to have heard just by living!
