Me about vehicles.
Seriously have no idea what the fuck is going on in them, and I ifnd it kidna sad since some day I must learn about them, it's good discussion (were I live) and if something happens and you have no idea what it is you can't fix them, and in most cases in cars small shit happens which you fix by turning a plug (might be abit over the top but you get the point).

Everyone is ignorant when it comes to certain things. Take for example me when it comes to vehicles. I have little idea what car is what when it drives by me on the street. And even less of a clue what I'm looking at once a hood has been popped. So a lot of people's ignorance can be taken lightly. But then there's the stuff that's just extremely annoying...

Like the misconception of the term "iPod." I work retail and I swear every single customer either believes iPods are different then MP3 players, or don't even know there's an electronic device called an MP3 player. And even MP3 player is slang! Or really just an obsolete description. Now it's Digital Media Player. An iPod is a brand of MP3 player, just like how Kleenex is a brand of facial tissue and Q-Tip is a brand cotton swab and Coke is a brand of soda. But every day I will get customers asking for "Sony iPods" or "generic iPods." Every single time.
My bold.

Are you implying that your ignorance of cars should be taken lightly but that others ignorance of the nature of digital media players should not?

Because speaking as someone who knows about cars AND digital media players, I'd say either relax about both (as I do), or take both seriously (if you are so inclined). Either way stop being a fucking hypocrite.

If this was not your intent, and I have infered the wrong thing, then I apologise.

What I will say, however, is that people, all people, no matter how smart, are ignorant. Nobody knows everything about everything, and this means they're going to have glaring levels of ignorance when around those who know about subjects they don't. So we should all just chill out about it until it becomes a direct and tangible influence on our lives... For example - Michael Gove (current Education Minister in the UK) does not know a damned thing about Education. This bothers me because I'm about to go to Uni to study teaching, after which I intend to become a history teacher.

His ignorance affects not just me and my future career, but every single teacher, and child in education, in Britain. This is the kind of ignorance to get pissed off about... Whether or not he can tell the difference between a Zune and an Ipod is irrelevant.

Intensive purposes. That is all. *twitch*
I had to google that because it didn't click that many people say that instead of 'intents and purposes'. It's not something I've actually noticed people doing before, but I shall be on the look out for it.

Velociraptors, and the fact that they were feathered.

No one ever seems to depict them with feathers though. Friggin Jurassic Park.

At least Pokemon gets it...

Not tech related, but people who think pansexuality is the same as bisexuality(it's not), or those who haven't heard of pansexuality and are like "what" or "that's stupid" or even "you're going to hell for you sexuality, why don't you change??".

And some of these people I've even seen here on the Escapist. It's insane.

That all manga characters have big eyes or that it's strange that Japanese people, with their eyes shaped the way they are, would create characters who look like that. First of all, no person of any race looks even remotely like a big-eyed manga character. Secondly, you know Timmy from Fairly Odd Parents? Or Bart Simpson? They don't look a bit like human beings, but that's not considered strange. So why would Japanese people stick to the photorealistic look all the time?

Secondly: That manga is read "the wrong way" or "backwards." At least when people say "the wrong way" they useem to understand that there's no reason to call one way "the wrong way;" but when they say "backwards" they seem to think that that's a suitable word to desribe it. Even though it's like saying that all the cars that are driving in a different direction than you are driving backwards.

This clip needs to go viral. I've noticed some of my dimmer friends picking up Americanisms, I need to show this to them.

My own personal one: "So you're an archaeologist then. That means you dig up doinosaurs right?"

GAAAH!!!

EDIT: Genious. Do you have a fucking brain haemorrhage or something? If you read it out it actually sounds like you have the derp.

Say genius. "GeniUs"

Say genious. "GeniOOs"

"Wtf is a 'genioos'?" I ask

"You know like Einstein." Says derp.

"He was a geniUS!" *Proceeds to beat offender with a dictionary*

One that seems to have an actual affect on me almost daily is the ignorance of people not being able to understand that although a show has been made for small children, if it's extremely well made, we can all enjoy it immensely

And another annoyance, and the reason I thought to make this thread, is the misconception of what a hamper is. My roommate just asked me if I wanted a hamper and I replied that I did. So I cleaned out a spot in my bathroom to put it just for him to bring me an old laundry basket. And this isn't the first time someone has done the exact same thing to me. I already have laundry baskets. Really nice ones too. But what I could use is a hamper. NOT another basket! And for those who don't know the difference, a hamper is a container used to hold dirty clothes out of sight. Usually it's a semi-decorative plastic or wicker container with a lid. A laundry basket on the other hand is a container for carrying clothes, usually to and fro the washer/ dryer or outside clothes-line. Now I know a lot of people use laundry baskets as hampers, just like I've been doing for awhile now since I'm too cheap to buy a real hamper, but there still remains a difference.

So what ignorances do you find frustrating?
I'm very much like you with the whole iPod thing. As the same people will say the same with iPads.

Case in point, I have the [a href="http://www.xda-developers.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/ASUS-Transformer-Prime.jpg?139d23"]Asus Transformer Prime[/a] which is a tablet that can be docked to a keyboard to become essentially a little netbook.

However, when it's out of the dock, the 'ignorant' always say "oh, is that an iPad?". I say, "No, it's an Asus Transformer Prime, but I can understand that they look similar."

The person will then go to say, "Yeah, but it's an iPad though, isn't it. I mean, that's what they're all called". Bemused, I'll say, "Erm, no, the category of devices they all belong to (including iPads) is called 'Tablets'". The person will then conclude, "Oh, I just call them iPads because they did it first."

And then I assume a position similar to this:

The funny thing is, when it's docked, I get it all again but with, "Oh, is that a Mac Book Air?"

Yeah, I hate Apple for how utterly stupid they manage to turn people.

I remember reading an article about something like that, why Asian cartoon characters don't look Asian to Western audiences.

A basic smiley face is "default male", a female or foreigner is that modified to show non-defaultness. Because Asian stuff about Asians targeted at Asians treat Asians as the default, they don't stick any Asian markers on top.

They worded it rather better than me.

Well... In my biology class my teacher was talking about the current state of EU, and one girl raises her hand and asks "What is EU?".

So later on, I give an angry rant about this to my aunt, who responds: "Well, it's not like she needs to know. I think that men should be men and women should be women. Women should be concentrating on looking good and leave thinking and working to men."

Then I cry out of frustration.

Edit: Before anyone says anything, it was not sarcasm.

Whoa whoa whoa whoa...hold the fuck on. You mean to tell me that your ignorance towards vehicles "can be taken lightly", yet the all important issues of not know fucking semantics about digital devices and laundry receptacles is what's REALLY important?

Please, please, PLEASE call me next time your car breaks down so I can charge you an arm and a leg to get it fixed.

I don't find it annoying when people call a laundry basket a hamper. Sure, it's incorrect, but it won't really alter their way in any meaningful or measurable way. Same goes for iPods. I could go the rest of my life without knowing who makes them or what the fuck they do.

Know what I couldn't go the rest of my life without? Knowing how a vehicle works and how to fix one when it goddamned breaks. For that matter those are the "ignorances I find frustrating". I find it incredibly frustrating that people are allowed to hurl giant wads of metals, gears, belts, and wheels down any highway they goddamned well please at insane speeds, yet they aren't required to know anything about how or why they work. Gas? Brake? Steering wheel? Ignition? That's all I need to know, right?

My grandmother says similar things.

* Bronies - please stop spamming my preferred sites and forums with your multicoloured bullshit. If you like it, fine, but MLP has fuck-all to do with BMW's and are about as welcome on my Facebook wall as Jesus is (i.e not-very).

* People who own cars / bikes and have no idea how to look after them - It's NOT hard!

* People who own cars / bikes and don't insure them - It's the law you twats and it's honest motorists like myself that have to pay for YOUR accidents!

* People who own cars / bikes, don't insure them and think it's acceptable / funny - I've already reported one of these loathesome people to the Police and I'd do it again!

* Using the word "loose" instead of "lose" - you do NOT "loose" your mind / car-keys / virginity, you LOSE it, you thick fuck...sorry...*breathes into a paper bag*

* Cars have "brakes", not "breaks" - Brakes make things stop whilst breaks are what you take when you are tired.

* Religion - Enough said.
