Lately I am having a terrible time of trying to get out of bed of a morning. I have a bad habit of getting up at 9:30 after a week or so of only going to work at 1. We are now in real production for our next show, working from 9 til 5 every week day.

But I can't get out of bed. I've tried alarms, opening my curtains, listening to music, trying to read. Being Winter in good ol' Australia and friggin' cold, makes it worse. If I set an alarm I just turn it off and go back to sleep. Going to bed earlier doesn't help either.

Does anyone know of a way to help me get out of bed in the morning?

UPDATE: Ok, I am going to bed now at exactly 10:02pm and will go to sleep at 10:30. I will need to get up at 7:30 and will be on the compy by 8:30 which is in *counts on fingers* 10 and a half hours from now. If I don't post on this thread by then, you all have failed. If I do, everyone gets a personal cookie and/or huge from me just because. Good Night, Escapist!

Set an alarm either in another room (mine used to be opposite side of room, but I can turn it off in my sleep now) or get one of the moving alarms.
They set off an alarm and little whirling helicopter flies off, you have to put the helicopter back on the alarm base to make it stop. They're really loud too.

Or have someone come in and throw stuff at you or hit you with a wet towel.

You learn to do it in your sleep. I have.

Go to bed earlier. That's about as simple as it gets. 9 to 5? That's not even a real tough shift. Some people work 12 hour days, which is much harder. I hate coming home and only having enough time to shower, eat, and then having to be in bed again for the next day of work.

Well Literally, kind of jump or bounce out of bed towards you first thing you ususally do, i.e. get dressed, shower, eat. But get out of the actual bed once your awake will still being kind of dazed. You will feel tired but you've just woken up and thats all the rest you will need.

I've got an alarm clock on the other side of my room. Though I also set my cell phone to go off at 1 minute intervals for 10 minutes.

Though, as I'm writing this, I'm up and ready for work at 5:50am. And last night I only got 6 hours of sleep. It's weird, the older you get, the less sleep you need to remain functioning.

Alright, I'll explain the way I do it, and yes, it sounds absolutely ridiculous. Basically, as soon as I wake up, pretend there is something really urgent going on outside, (zombies rising, alien invasion, machine revolution, free pie stall etc) throwback the covers and literally jump, yes, jump out of bed. You look like an idiot, but as soon as you hit the floor, you've jolted yourself awake and its so cold that I'm pretty much forced to throw some clothes on or have a shower.

I dunno if it works for anyone else, but thats what I do when I really struggle to get up.

PS. It helps if you land with a pose.

...Well, not really, but it looks badass.

Drink a really big cup of water before you go to sleep. Then you'll wake up having to pee, and it'll most likely be morning by then, and you can just stay up.

That's what I always do.
Although I seem to have a good internal clock so always wake up about 5 minutes before I need to get up anyway.

Get a really really big friendly Labrador. When my Grandad brings his with him I'm woken up at about 6am everyday to a gigantic black dog standing on my bed bouncing around and barking.

It works!
