I thought it looked all cool and awesome and stuff...
And then I saw the combat.

I played the trailer and I wasn't like "This game sucks" it just wasn't for me. Story didn't entice me, gameplay felt...meh, the art style....well you know how you can have a movie or a game with an artstyle that you just can't get into even if it might be a perfectly fine game in it's own right? Yeah I just couldn't get past the bizarre nature of everything.

It's not getting my money, I honestly thought this was going to slip under the radar as a cult classic game or just a dud

Skyrim is currently the most anticipated game by my being alone. This game I would not know of if not for The Escapist. Even then I figured it just another PC only MMO or redundant RPG.

I usually find that when previews for games say that something is the "most anticipated", what they're actually saying is "most heavily advertised". Who's anticipating this?
To be fair, people tend to get hyped up over the most heavily exposed and advertised stuff. So what they're saying isn't necessarily false, it's just they're missing a step.

Though seriously, I know nothing about this game save that the Escapist is advertising the HELL out of it.

I'm just pissed off by the expanding window bullshit above.
This. Every time I accidentally rollover it, it expands and doesn't shrink back to normal. If I hit the X to close it, it just opens up a pop-up. Not to mention that the ads are fucking EVERYWHERE on this website.

What ads? On this site? I only see the one for a contest or something.
Anyhow, I do want to play the game. It's something different for a change, not another sequel---there will never be new franchises if everyone sticks to sequels and such.

Actually, the game looks pretty underhyped. No one's really too excited about it , maybe interested, but no one I've seen is going "OH MY GOD, OH MY GOD, OH MY GOD" like how they're reacting to some of the other games coming out this year.

My own thoughts? Well this sums it all up quite nicely:

I don't understand how this game is so highly anticipated. I'd never even heard about it until The Escapist started shoving dozens of their ads all over the place. And then I see the trailer and it doesn't make any sense. I have no idea what it's about or what it's like. And frankly I don't care.

Honestly at first I thought it was just another Korean MMORPG or something. (And since I don't know anything about it I'm still not sure it's not one)

And yeah now it's shovelling advertisements all over the place, to the point that it's actually lagging my computer just to be on this web site. So any interest I might have had for this game is immediately tossed out the window.

Is anyone actually excited about El Shaddai? To me it looks like Poser 3D meets Epic Mickey (another case of humiliating, face-on-the-floor overhype). If anyone is genuinely looking forward to it, I'd be curious to know.
I misread that as "Epic Monkey" and thought, "Wait, there was a game called Epic Monkey and I MISSED it?

Since it was first revealed, I was intrigued by its premise, I was in love with its art style, and I made damn well certain to keep my eye on it as development progressed. I'm surprised it's getting quite so much advertisement, if only on The Escapist.

Also, "quintessential?" Don't be obtuse. Is it really overhyped more than any given Halo or Call of Duty?

Played the demo and felt meh about it. It felt like a watered down version of Okami to me.

I thought the demo was fun, but the 3D platforming parts were frustrating as hell.

I think the game looks pretty awesome actually (and drop-dead gorgeous, my lawd), though the combat is a bit too minimalist for me. I'll definitely buy it, at one point or another, just when it's not 60 bucks.

Sorry I'm late,I wanted to find something other than that Panty and Stocking picture I always use to show how I don't give a fuck about something!
And now presenting my thoughts on El Shaddai!

In fact, that's the reason I gave up on the contest here, because all I would get is another game system I already own and a game that I really never gave a shit about.

The adverts on this website is all I know about the game.

Whenever I say it in my mind I just imagine a rapper saying el "Shawday" in autotune.

It looks kind of like Okami, but without the paint brush, and Ami is wearing jeans.

Ridiculously.

It caught my eye at E3 last year (there was like one news article on it on every gaming site combined), then I played the demo and it hooked me. The visual style is sweet, the story is borderline heretical and intriguing, the fighting was satisfying (hopefully it gets a little more complex though..).

It's just different, and in the gaming industry today, we desperately need some fresh ideas, and I want to see them myself.

I am however a little surprised by the aggressive advertising.. I expected the publisher to slide in unnoticed like so many other weird Japanese games and let word of mouth do its work. Hopefully it pays off for them.
Pretty much word for word what I was going to say. It is almost scary how close your opinion is to mine... Anyway, yes I am quite excited. Combat was great, art style looks simply fantastic and worth picking the game up for alone, and the story is intriguing. Also, how is it overhyped? I have encountered very few people who actually know about the game (before the advertising that is), much less are excited for it. It is much less hyped than many other games coming out this year, like Gears 3, Uncharted 3, Skyrim, Deus Ex: HR, MW3, Batman: Arkham City, and so on and so forth.

Looks somewhat interesting. I might pick it up later at bargain bin prices, but I'm not losing any sleep over it.
