I tried the demo ages back when it came up on the japanese marketplace. Was pretty interesting. I'll be waiting for a price drop though, probably.

The design of the protagonist looks laughable to me. If the game turns out to be good, then maybe I'll check it out in the winter.

So because an ad for the game, which is made specifically to get people excited for it, says that the game is highly anticipated that means that it is over hyped?

Hey, Halo's not my favorite game or anything, but there's a reason so many people still play it. It's a very good physics-based fps, if you like that sort of thing. I'm not saying we've been saturated with ads for this game more than any other, I'm saying that I just don't see El Shaddai actually having a solid base of fans once the advertising engine powers down. By quintessentially overhyped, I mean, all hype, and probably not a lot of fun game in there.

El Shaddai looks entirely too badass. Played the demo and now I'm ready for another weird game after Catherine. The visuals were so Killer7.

And honestly, the more I read previews, reviews and other user impressions, they less they apply to me at this point. I'm beginning to love this idea of not quite knowing how to put into cold logical words why I like games or dislike them. Makes me feel like a kid discovering games for the first time again. Feels great.

I love all these games that have awesomely different visuals, unconventionally great stories and just-fine-thanks gameplay. You know what my favorite game is that has no context whatsoever but has fantastic raw gameplay mechanics? Fuck-All, that's what. I don't care that much about diamond-polished gameplay anymore if I can't have a great, memorable everything else with it. I'll take the hit in the gameplay depth and functionality if it means I get a fucking amazing story and aesthetic.

I had read quite a bit about this game over the past several months, but honestly, until about a week ago I thought it was an XBLA game.

Still an interesting concept, but there's no way in hell I would pay $60 for this.

Is anyone actually excited about El Shaddai? To me it looks like Poser 3D meets Epic Mickey (another case of humiliating, face-on-the-floor overhype). If anyone is genuinely looking forward to it, I'd be curious to know.
Translation: I have not played this and I know nothing about it but in my ignorance I hate it.

My advice, try it before you hate it. If you try it and still hate it then at least you'll have valid criticisms to level and your argument becomes all the more persuasive. If you try it and don't hate it, then you learn something.

Myself, had no expectations, wasn't following it, played the demo and surprise surprise it's actually a pretty good game. It is however, hard. The enemies are smart, you see. One of them is a match for you and they never come at you one at a time. They will flank you, one will do a risky maneuver to break your block, then the other will move in to take advantage of the opening. One will do a combo, then the other will move in to cover him on the reset. They will surround you and synchronize their attacks, making it impossible to block. So that said, they get some props for making smart enemies. But enemies don't have health bars, so you don't know how close to dead they are.

I don't know how much of the full game people will be able to stand but, have you played it?

It looks like a solid $15 downloadable action adventure, but we get a 100 or so of these per year.

I would probably hate it because the art style is clearly interfering with platforming, you need to make that shit clear and spot on or people will just hate you for it.
So yeah it's very much like Epic Mickey :D
