Hey!

does anyone played Elder Scroll II: DagerFall? I will start to play it tonight... I just finished Arena, the first one. But I got some question on the gameplay first... So if anoyone already play it, here's some questions!

1. Do mana regeneration exist in this game? not from sleep or potion, just with time, as you fight.

2. Can we block? Like left click attack, and right click block.

3. Do thief is a great class to play with? In arena, as I can think, the only advantage they got was a better lockpicking... Does the sneak and Backstabing skill work well?

And as i final question, wich is more an opinion, what is the "major" class you can get the best gameplay with? (Mage / Warrior / thief, or maybe a combination of two?

Thanks!

Nice to see someone interested in the classic Elder Scroll titles.

1. Nope, no passive magicka regen. You still have to sleep/quaff a potion. Indeed, the only Elder Scrolls game that has passive magicka regen is Oblivion (though Morrowind has a few mods that do this).

2. There is no manual block option. Again, it wasn't until Oblivion that such a feature was implemented.

3. I can't really say, as I've actually never tried a thief class. I usually go with a warrior-style character build myself.

For your final question, I get the most mileage out of a combat oriented character (hence my aforementioned warrior builds).

In many ways Daggerfall is much like Arena, but with refined graphics (for the time at least), multiple endings (which strangely enough are all canon due to a disruption in the time-space continuum known as the "Warp in the West"), some gameplay improvements and more points of interest to explore. The game is buggy as hell though, so make sure you save early and save often.

I can't remember about #1, and I've never tried a thief class, so that cuts out #3, but the answer to #2 is that blocking is automatic. As for the best pre-made class, that would be either Spellsword or Battlemage, depending on your personal playstyle (one is slightly more physical, the other slightly more magical.) in either case, the best race is the High Elf, mainly because they're immune to poison, while none of the other races have working race benefits. That said, you can get immunity to poison and quite a few other perks if you create your own class.

Edit: I think they're actually immune to paralysis, not poison. both poison immunity and paralysis immunity exist, however.

well, wish I could be helpful

I'm stuck on Arena, at a shamefully early part in the game XD

Be careful when your starting, the first foe you'll face may be a rat but the other foes are all randomly generated. Last time I tried to make a new char, I was stopped by a Centuar, Orcs, and Daedra. So make sure to save.

Oblivion is the first one to my knowledge with the magicka regen and choice blocking...
So don't expect it.

In particular I'd recommend making a separate save game before accepting any quests in the courts. It was a number of years ago but this screwed up my game last time I played. Basically to talk to the person on the thrown you gotta perform quests for the other nobles at court to gain favor. I was progressing nicely up the ladder until one Lady asked me to go find some ring in a dungeon, and gave me a 10 day time limit. I scoured that dungeon from top to bottom, found tons of hidden paths everywhere, but just couldn't find that damn ring. Eventually I gave up, but when I went back to that city after the 10 days everyone at court hated me now and all that progress was lost.

In other words failure to complete a quest for an important person in the time limit given is not an option.

Daggerfall is amazing, but I've yet to beat any Elder Scrolls game. :p I love the riddles in Arena that you have to figure out to open certain doors. I think I'll try to play through the whole Elder Scrolls series, one year (although, it'll probably take longer than that).

In 5 years, I will perhaps start Skyrim... haha!
