1.Like Morrowind. But with deeper combat.
2.Not the retardified Console game we got last time.
3.More ability to costumize your appearance. Like in Morrowind, wear different types of gloves, boots leggings and armor pieces. As well as be able to have clothing under it.
4.Less magical shit covering an enchanted armor. I dont want to look like a goddamn rainbow when im fighting.
5.Mounted Combat.
6. MORE IN DEPTH MELEE COMBAT.
7. READ 1 AND 6.

Make spells useful, fix the mind-numbingly disorganized menu system, nerf down on the ridiculously easy stealth class just a tad, umm...oh yeah and also make the world feel more immersible and believable overall.

That's actually it....
Huh, actually two of the things I hope they keep in Skyrim. taking out fast travel would be pointless because, last time I checked, you didn't have to use it. It was nice for when I didn't feel like trudging all the way back across the map for things like stupid fetch quests and such. And level scaling, when done right, is pretty awesome. Oblivion didn't really do it right, but it wouldn't need to much changing. Scale ALL AI, enemy and friendly, don't give enemy NPC's redic armor and weapons (bandits wearing Daedric armor was stupid) and really just scale everything appropriately so that enemies always present a challenge and I'll be happy.

Oh, and the stuff I want was already listed in the thread this guy posted, but for the sake of contributing-

More spell effects!
Better AI!
Better animations!
Less repetitive environments!
<color=red>DRAGONS!!!!!

That's all.

Keep the level scaling and general leveling system. But make the enemy scaling on a toggle in the menu.

I love it, personally. Don't have to waste my bloody time with things beneath me in power if I have a solid build. For people who don't know what they're doing, level scaling can be a *****, I suppose.
Level scaling neutered character progression and exploration while encouraging cookie-cutter skill selection and progression at the expense of viable alternative builds and styles of play. It is a very bad fit for a game and series whose strengths are exploration and intuitive, customizable character advancement. I've never seen anyone complain that it made the game too difficult to play or understand. It makes combat and exploration unsatisfying and results in very strange balance and progression issues which pigeonhole the player and even encourage bizarre player behavior such as "Major is Minor" and "First Level" builds. Your preference for level scaling doesn't bug me, only the suggestion that those who do not prefer it "don't know what they're doing." While perfecting your Oblivion build may be fun for you, for me it feels like laming a boring and broken system.

1. Revamp the leveling system. We need a leveling system that simply allows you to assign points to various things such as skills (maybe...) and attributes (YES) like in Fallout or Daggerfall...

2. Just get rid of spell creation. There isn't enough difference between the spells that we can create and those that can be purchased to justify the limited number of animations inherent in such a system. Not to mention that spell creation is one of the ways that Elder Scrolls gets broken on a regular basis, so removing it will help keep the game balanced and provide incentive to make mages worth using.

3. Just remove enchanted item creation. Once again, commonly used to break teh game, just do it yourself and keep it balanced.

4. More spell animations. Cones of fire? Lightning fast lightning? Damage health that doesn't look like a darker fireball? Yes please ^_^.

5. Give us back our weapon variety! I miss my spears, thrown weapons, staves, crossbows, etc...within reason of course! I can forgive loosing my ninja stars, but i want my spears back most of all!

6. Balance between level scaled and status quo encounters. Not everything needs to be tailored to my current level (like the MAIN QUEST), but it'd be nice to know that i can wander the countryside and not get ganked by a golden saint...or start with a FUCKING IMMUNE-TO-NORMAL-WEAPONS IMP IN THE FUCKING TUTORIAL DUNGEON! THANKS ALOT, DAGGERFALL!!!!!!

7. Mounted combat. Pretty simple really.

8. Dual wielding? meh, take it or leave it.

9. No matter what anybody says, KEEP THE AUTO-TRAVEL AND QUEST MARKERS INTACT! There's nothing worse than 30 minutes of real time travel, followed by vague and often downright incorrect directions to completely ruin the questing experience. Just remember, Morrowind's questing was one of the worst implemented systems of its kind, don't repeat those mistakes.

10. Kick up the creativity! Shivering Isles was better than Cyrodiil and everyone knows it. Now, I'm not expecting Shivering Isles level otherworldly factor here, but having more than just wolves and bears would be nice...even if they are next to wolves and bears. Think Bloodmoon. On that none....spiders! Sure they're mundane, but they're also creepy and cool! Give us spiders!

11. Now alot of people are going to complain that they want more in depth combat, which is good and all, but what we really need is faster combat! Start with kicking up damage across the board and go from there. Also, more support for mass battles! Sure fighting a badass Skeletal guard is cool, but so is killing 10 skeletal hobbits at once. Make sure we can do both!

12. More interesting locations to kill things in! Rather than just generic cave structure and Ayleid ruins, give us back out Daedric ruins, dwarven ruins, more than one generic cave structure, sweeping vistas that you cant actually go into but still offer a great sense of scale! For a better idea of what I'm talking about, go play the Oblivion full conversion Nehrim, at Fate's Edge, namely the main story. Those guys did an amazing job creating interesting locations to kill things in!

I totally understand that argument, but I don't agree with it.

If you haven't played an Elder Scrolls game that didn't have Fast Travel, you wouldn't know how much Fast Travel affects the game's design. Most obvious are the lack of alternatives. Morrowind had a more limited "Fast Travel" system that involved paying merchants to get around by boat, beast, or teleportation with specific points of embarkation/arrival. There were also scrolls and spells with similar functions. It meant you spent some time in the world without being forced to traverse it in it's entirety over and over again, which is what you would be forced to do if you attempted to play Oblivion without Fast Travel. There is also geography, point-of-interest layout, and quest design to consider. I have played Oblivion mods attempting to recreate Morrowind's system, and it only made the differences more obvious.

In short, you cannot simulate the experience of a game without Fast Travel by simply ignoring the feature in a game designed around said feature. That's why Morrowind fanboys like me are so offended by the suggestion. To them it sounds obtuse to the point of being dickish. Following that advice will not result in a satisfying experience. Ideally, I think they should design the world to be played without Fast Travel, but allow it to be toggleable or disabled in Hardcore Mode. That way everyone is (finally) happy.

You're argument could be made in favour of fast travel. Consider that Daggerfall included fast travel, it felt like being jacked when Morrowwind took it out.

how about getting rid of the "everyone guard in the country instantly knows when I get caught stealing and wants to arrest/kill me" phenomenon?

FIX THE EFFIN ANIMATIONS

Other than that I want better voice acting and less confusing side-quests. I bought the collectors edition of Oblivion off a friend and stopped playing it after I finally got accepted to the Mages guild. The fighting animations and magic casting is too clunky. I like the ideas they have in the game though, tons of spells and weapons, limited amount of weapons you van hold, you can go to jail etc..

JUST FIX THE GODDAMN ANIMATIONS

No. No. No. NO.

We don't need that ;)

Right, from the top of my head:

- More voice actors
- More random encounters
- Smoother animations
- Bring back more weapon categories (spears, short blade, etc)
- Keep the off hand magic system
- More spell effects
- Lose the fast travel system, and the quest marker. Make us read the quest info/journal
- Assassin's guild, personally I'd like to see the Morag Tong this time around, instead of the Dark Brotherhood
- More content for vampires and/or werewolves. Factions?
- More in-depth enchantement system

I didn't play Daggerfall, but I've heard many say the same. I'm not really arguing the merits of Fast Travel, although it is not my preference. All I'm saying is ignoring Fast Travel is not a solution for Fast Travel haters.

If you're saying that introducing Fast Travel to a game designed without it would be equally unsatisfactory, I don't see why it would be, unless it was implemented in such a way that it broke a quest or something. And I don't see why a clever developer couldn't accommodate both play-styles by designing a world that worked for both and making Fast Travel toggleable through menus.

I only want 2 things form Skyrim to be happy.
1.Combat that's difficult enough that for the most part skill will not always save you. Nor will overpowered companions.
2. Flight. Magic, transformation, whatever. If I can fly Skyrim is a instant-buy.

An end to formulaic worldbuilding.

Oblivion had nine towns. Each with one castle with one count or countess. One of each guild. One stable with one different kind of horse. One house to buy. One type of guard with a retextured shield.

The most important part of gameplay is factions and miscellaneous quests. Oblivion did the latter very well, but needs some major improvements for the former.

Most important new feature is probably horse combat. It can be roughhewn so long as it's there.

All I care about is that it doesn't suck.

Oblivion was a very nice game, but there were a fair few issues with it .. level scaling, counter-intuitive stat gains (although I like it, 'cos it lets a numbercruncher achieve silly things like level 250 with everything max), even a mediocre combat system.

I heard the morrowind expansion did this well, perhaps it's time to resurrect it.
It was a thing of beauty.

I would basically like the game to be more like morrowind than oblivion. (pay for fastravel and only to key areas, no silly leveling systems, more skill sets etc).
