Basically is this symbol the logo for the whole elder scrolls series or just the mmorpg?

My friend has just gone and got this inked into his flesh. He is a huge gamer and a big fan of Oblivion and Skyrim but we both agree that we can't be asked with the mmorpg. So I was wondering if he has gone and got a tattoo of a game he doesn't even like. And by the way this isn't a roundabout way of asking if I've gone and got the wrong tattoo, this guy has a bout four other tattoos whereas I have none. He is a real guy but I don't want to reveal his name because if its the wrong logo he is going to look like a twat.

I've completed oblivion, morrowind and Skyrim, played half an hour of arena and about 3 hours of daggerfall. And I can't say this thing looks familiar.

So basically can anyone tell me if my mate has gone an inked the wrong design onto himself which will remain until his death?

EDIT....

Oh shit

Morale of the story is don't get the tattoo unless you know exactly what the tattoo is.

And I'd advise not getting tattoos at all as tastes change and people judge you for them.

Yeah... that's the ESO design. The skyrim design would be the imperial dragon.

I'd laugh, but I feel kinda bad for the guy.

Also this design was on the cover of Morrowind as well.

AFAIK there is no actual symbol for The Elder Scrolls series apart from 'The Elder Scrolls' written in this font:

Although the Imperial Dragon is probably the most recognisable and most frequently used.
The one your friend has inked seems only to be from the MMO.

Bahahahahaha, oh that's rich. He got a tattoo of the game that he doesn't like. The amount of schadenfreude that I'm getting from this is just too much.

Also, methinks he doesn't quite know the series as well as he thinks he does.

I have two tattoos myself and I spent a lot of time, thought, effort, and research into them beforehand. Tattoos need to be taken to the utmost serious; you're going to have them for a very long time - or it's going to be extremely painful and expensive to get them off.

I find it a little difficult to believe that he's as familiar with the games as you claim. Still, it's a fairly common design and thus, as s69-5 stated, should be easy enough to mask. It does look stylish, though, so he might even grow to like it over time.

A simple misunderstanding resulting in years of potential regret? Sounds like a successful tattoo to me. Drinks to celebrate!

Wat iss schadenfreude??

Methinks you would be right there. He was stupid to rush into it I know. Its wrong, its big, its black, it cost £80 and now its on his arm for good.

I claimed nothing about his knowledge. Ah sed he's a big fan of Skyrim and Oblivion.
I'm the fuckin expert m8!

But yeah I guess its an average tattoo scenario. I think I may buy him a drink if he ever finds out.

That is 100% just the logo of the MMO. Nothing else (except an ouroboros). He really fucked up on his choice of tattoo design. If he were really that big of a fan of Skyrim and Oblivion, he should have gone with he Imperial dragon symbol or the Deadric O.

It's joy derived from others' misfortune.

There's nothing wrong with black and big tattoos. I've got one that covers the entirety of my left pectoral and it looks pretty nice. It's the lack of thought he put into it that's awful. But at least you get to tease him now!

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that's to symbolises the 3 factions in the mmo. Never seen it in any other Elder Scrolls game.
If it's any consultation at least it is a very nice design.

Ah ok cheers mate

There is something wrong with them if they will poke out from under short shirt sleeves in job interviews. You can cover yours up whenever you want. He will have to be mindful of this (or wear longsleeves) for the rest of his life.

I can't tease him. I'll have to let him live in blissful ignorance.

I'm pretty sure that symbol represents the war between the 3 factions in ESO. so it's specific to ESO.. It's an interesting design though, if a bit uninspired without the context

so it might actually be the perfect illconcieved tattoo

Yep, that's definitely the symbol for The Elder Scrolls Online only. Any actual symbol could be the title itself or possibly the Imperial symbol.

I don't know how he could possibly have got that wrong, to be perfectly honest.

Meh, it looks like it could be easy enough to cover over. Your friend could get a similar circular design, just a much wider one and there you go. Very easy tattoo to cover up I'd imagine. Obvious connection to a shitty MMO aside, it doesn't look bad as a stand alone piece. It is possible to have tattoos with designs you simply like the look of, rather than enjoy what it's associated with. Many people having tribal tattoos is a testimony to that.

He could always get the Imperial dragon or the Stormcloak bear tattooed inside the circle. That would be my recommendation, anyways.

That actually gives me an idea I think I'll have to go and sketch out, now.

Put a daedric O in the middle of the circle. instant cover.

The imperial dragon also works.

Its not un-fixable.
Good point!

He could combine it with another logo and make it look pretty damn sweet. Like the O or the dragon in the centre, so even though he doesn't like/got the wrong tattoo, he'll end up with the right tattoo and a badass looking border around it.

I believe this person is correct in their assertion.

As far as I know, there isn't a universal elder scrolls logo, in the form of a symbol. The only universally applicable logo for the game would be The Elder Scrolls, written as it appears there.

I'm afraid your friend has now got a tattoo for a game they don't like, or at least are not interested in.

Maybe he could put a big cross 'X' next to it and then have the Skyrim symbol below with a big tick next to it. That would make the point... I think..

No shit. That's the first rule of tattoo club. As for the advise: screw that. Just don't get tattoos of sports teams or bands or popculture franchise unless you want to risk regret. If people want to judge me because I've got tattoos, that's their problem, not mine.
